T: Good morning! Glad to see you! How are you? We’ve got many guests at our holiday today. Let’s greet all of them.
Ps: - Good morning!
- Hi!
- Hello!
- Glad to meet you!
- Glad to see you!
- How are you?
- How do you do?
T: It is winter now. It is December. We’ll soon have winter holidays. I think you like New Year, don’t you? Of course, you like New Year. Boys and girls from Great Britain, America, and Canada have New Year too. But they like Christmas more. (Раздается стук в дверь).Who is this?
T: Come in!
F.-F.: Hi! A Merry Christmas to you!
T: The same to you.
T: Well, I’m sorry. Who are you? Where are you from? What have you got?
F.-F.: I’m Kitty. I’m from America. I’ve got a letter and sack for you.
T: Oh, thank you. Go and sit down, be our guest. This is a Christmas Cone. But I can’t open it. That’s surprise! I’ll put it under our New Year Tree, we’ll speak English sing songs and play games – we’re having a holiday. And then we’ll open our cone. But wait! There is something else in the sack. This is a letter. Come on! Let’s read it!
Hello my friends from Russia,
I’m from America. I’m not a pupil. I’m a grandfather. Boys and girls in America, Great Britain have Christmas. They like it. They have got many toys on Christmas. They like to play with toys. They like to play with friends. How we love Christmas! And you? Do you like to play with toys and your friends?
A Merry Christmas to you.
Love, Santa.
T: Very well. Well done! Thank you. You see, Santa Claus has got some questions to us. Let’s answer these questions. But how? Let it be a video letter.
Ps: O.K.
Great!
All right!
Agree!
We would like to!
T: At first let’s decorate our classroom. How nice! Our classroom is so beautiful! Let’s put on our marks and carnival costumes. How beautiful we are! And now get your lips, tongues and mouths ready.
Rhymes:
[w]
Why do you cry Willy? Why do you cry?
Why, Willy, why, Willy?
Why, Willy, why?
[ja:] – [jo:]
I’m a jolly Little Clown, yah, yaw, yah!
I can smile and I can frown, yah, yaw, yah!
I can drop my jaw far down! Yah, yaw, yah!
Can you be a jolly clown? Yah, yaw, yah!
Can you smile and can you frown? Yah, yaw, yah!
Can you drop your yaw far down? Yah, yaw, yah!
T: Good! We are ready to speak English now!
I’m sure you know the poem “WE LIKE TO PLAY”. Let’s act this poem just to begin our holiday.
Ps: Hide – and – seek we like to play
Oh, what fun, oh, what fun!
Leap – frog is a pretty game.
Oh, what fun, oh, what fun!
P1: Do you like to play hopscotch?
T: Me? Oh, yes, I do. Yes, I do.
P2: And my friend likes to play tag.
Ps: And I too and I too.
T: I have a secret. Our guests don’t know our games. Let’s tell them. Go to the blackboard, point to the picture and say what games you can / can’t play or like / don’t like to play.
P: I like to play badminton, but I don’t like to play tag.
T: Do you like to play with toys, friends, your sisters or brothers?
P: Yes, I do.
T: Kitty, do you like to play games in America? What games do you like to play?
Kitty tells about her friends and games.
Ps (1–2) tell about their toys and games they like to play.
T: Very nice! How interesting. I like to play, too. Do you want to know about my toys? Ask me questions: Do you like to play tag? Do you like to play with a doll? What do you like to play with?
T: (answers the questions) Please, pupils come up to our guests and ask them questions “Do you like…?” and then report me: “She / he likes to play…”
Role play. They should invite their friends to play:
1. Two girls meet in the park. They get acquainted.
2. Two friends meet and decide what to do.
3. A telephone talk.
1. - Hello, glad to see you.
- Glad to see you, too
- What is your name?
- My name is… And what is your name?
- I’m… How old are you?
-I’m 7. And you?
- I’m8. How many toys have you got?
- I’ve got 3 bears and 5 dolls.
- Do you like to play with dolls?
- Yes, I do. It’s fun.
- Do you want to play with my doll?

- Let’s play, then.
- All right.
2. - Hello, N.!
- Hi, B.!
- How are you?
- Fine, thanks. And you? Let’s play.
- O.K. What toys have you got?
- I’ve got many toys: balls and birds, dogs and cats….what toys do
you like to play with?
- I don’t want to play with toys. Let’s run or jump or play leap – frog!
- I don’t want to run or jump. Let’s play tag or hide – and – seek.
- All right. Let’s hide - and - seek, then.
- O.K. It’s fun.
3. Over telephone.
- Yes
- Hi, B. This is N.
- Hello, N. How are you?
- I’m fine, thanks. Do you want to play with me?
- Yes, I’d love to. Let’s play hopscotch.
- I like to play hopscotch very much. But I’ve got a nice toy room. Come and see!
- Fine! I’d love to play with your toy room.
- See you soon.
- Bye.
T: We have a holiday and I’d love to play. Come up to the New Year Tree.
- Let’s clap (“Clap, clap, clap your hands. Clap your hands together.)
- Let’s dance.
- Let’s wash hands.
- Let’s hop like a rabbit.
- Let’s jump like a frog.
- Let’s swim like a fish.
Ps: - Let’s sing a song.
- Let’s play…
T: Let’s play hide – and – seek. Stand here! I’ve got a Lion. It’s big, nice and funny. It’s yellow and brown. The Lion has got many toys inside.
Guess what he had got. Santa Claus can help you. Look at his picture with the question tips:
- Is it red?
- Is it big?
- Has he got a …?
You can ask each question three times (with substitutions):
1. - Is it brown? – No, it isn’t.
- Is it black? – No, it isn’t.
- Is it yellow? – No, it isn’t
8
- What colour is it? – It’s grey.
2. - Is it little? – No, it isn’t.
- Is it big? – Yes, it is.
3. - Has he got a monkey? – No, he hasn’t.
- Has he got a dog? – No, he hasn’t.
- Has he got a wolf? – No, he hasn’t.
- What has he got then? – He has got an elephant.
You are very smart! You have guessed all the animals.
T: Now we’ll play tag. Line up! The first and the best will get a prize – a carnival costume.
T: Let’s play detectives. Look at the blackboard and try to make up word out of the mixed letters:
C h r e a e t (teacher)
P l i p u (pupil)
T G e r a B t i a n r i (Great Britain)
You were excellent. I am very glad and happy to have such pupils.
New Year Resolutions.
Kitty: You’ve got such nice pupils. They know much and can do a lot. But you’ve forgotten about the Christmas Cone. I think we can it now. Oh, presents from Santa Claus to these smart kids.
T: Children, do you like the presents? Let’s thank Kitty. And again I invite you, Kitty and all our guest
to the New Year Tree. Let’s all together say “Welcome to New Year”!
New Year day, happy day,
We are all glad and very gay.
We all dance and sing and say
“Welcome, welcome, New Year day!”.
