Цели урока:

• Социокультурный аспект – знакомство с выдающимися изобретателями и изобретениями.
• Развивающий аспект – развитие способности к распределению внимания, к догадке, к сравнению и сопоставлению, способности к обобщению при овладении грамматическим явлением, к формированию выводов из прочитанного и услышанного, к планированию своего высказывания.
• Воспитательный аспект – воспитание чувства сопричастности к мировой истории, воспитание чувства уважения к чужому труду и творчеству.
• Учебный аспект – развитие умения читать с полным пониманием содержания; формирование навыков говорения, совершенствование грамматических навыков по теме “Past Perfect Passive”.

Сопутствующая задача – развитие умения воспринимать на слух информацию в деталях.

Ход урока

I. Приветствие. Организационный момент. Сообщение о целях урока.

T: Good morning, dear children! I’m glad to see you. How are you? Our lesson today is devoted to women inventors and their inventions. You’ll learn a lot of useful information about achievements of women from different countries, improve your translation and grammar skills.

II. Речевая разминка. Совершенствование речевых навыков.

T: We’ve already read and discussed a lot about inventors and inventions. As you know, invention is a new and useful machine or piece of work. Inventions can change the way you live. Many inventions started as flaws, but with time they improved and gave way to other inventions and discoveries. These inventions have given people a new world to live in.

And now, answer my questions, please.

T: Do you use modern inventions in everyday life? What are they?

P1: Yes, I do. They are…..

T: What invention impressed you most of all?

P2, P3, P4: I think / in my opinion/ to my mind/ I suppose that a telephone/ a computer…. impressed me most of all.

T: Is there anything you can’t imagine your life without?

P5: I can’t imagine my life without ……

T: What are the world’s greatest invention of the 19th and 20th centuries?

P6, P7: The world’s greatest inventions of the 19th century / 20th century are……

T: I see. And do you know the names of people who invented them?

P8, P9: I’d name such of them as Alexander Graham Bell, Karl Benz, Tomas Alva Edison, L.G. Baird , S. Korolev and so on.

T: What would you like to invent?

P10: I’d like to invent……

III. Проверка домашнего задания. Активизация грамматического материала.

Now, let’s check your homework. Your task was to fill in the “invention timeline” (слайд 3) and make up sentences using Past Perfect Passive (ex. 2.4) p.230-231) (cлайд 4).

IV. Формирование лексических навыков по теме. Совершенствование навыков чтения и перевода.

Thank you. As you can see, people have invented a lot of useful things to make our life more comfortable and interesting. But all the inventions you mentioned before were made by men. Do you know anything about women-inventors?

Pupil’s answers. I’ve heard about Maria Curie. She was a physicist and chemist famous for her work on radioactivity. …

T: Unfortunately, most of us know very little about women inventors. But women inventors are the creators of a variety of inventions that we all take for granted. For instance here are some of the inventions women are responsible for: the Zig Zag sewing machine and correction fluid, flat-bottom paper grocery bags and Kevlar that’s used in body armor, Anti-Leukemia drugs and signal flares used by ships. I offer you to play a guessing game. But before that let’s have a look at some new words and word combinations you need for our work today. (слайды 5 и 6). (Учащиеся читают слова и их толкование, переводят слова и словосочетания)

T; OK, let’s start the game. You’ll see 4 pictures on the screen. Please, name these objects. I think you know all the necessary words to do this task.

Pupils’ answers: We see a dishwasher /dishwashing machine, a safety pin, indshield/windscreen wipers and a baby carriage.

T: That’s right. Now, try to guess which of these items were invented by women (слайд 7).

It’s time to check who was right. Let’s read and translate texts about these inventions and their inventors. (Cлайды 8-15). While doing this task I ask you to take some notes in your exercise-books (the name of inventor and her inventions).

V. Активизация лексических и грамматических навыков. Выполнение заданий в формате ЕГЭ.

T: Thank you. And now let’s do an exercise on word formation. By the way, you’ll learn about another famous woman Lillian Gilbreth. For questions 1-7 read the text. Use the words in capitals to form new words that fit in the same numbered space in the text.

(Слайд 16 и Приложение 1). You have 4 minutes to complete the task.

Stop! Time is over. Look at the list of correct answers (слайд 17) and put a mark for yourself. Follow this gradation.

• 7 correct answers – “5”;
• 6-5 correct answers – “4”;
• 3-4 correct answers – “3”.

VI. Совершенствование навыков диалогической речи. Преимущества и недостатки изобретений.

T: The fact, there are advantages and disadvantages of using electric appliances. Take a dishwasher for example. Have you got any ideas of Pros and Cons for using it?

T: Your task is to make short dialogues between two people, one of them is for using a dishwasher at home, another is against it. Don’t forget to use necessary expressions we practiced at our previous lesson. You can see some or them on the screen. (Слайд 18).

VII Подведение итогов урока. Объяснение домашнего задания. Рефлексия учащихся.

T: Let’s summarize everything we’ve learned today. Throughout history famous women inventors and mostly, not so famous female inventors, have contributed greatly to the world of invention and innovation. And I’ll be glad if you remember their names and may be get interested to learn more about them. What are your impressions of the lesson? (Pupils’ answers)

T: Thank you for your work today. Your home task is to repeat the words and expressions from unit 7 (lessons 4-5, p. 257) and to fill in the worksheet I’ll give you . Have a look at it. (Слайд 19, Приложение 2). Is everything clear? The lesson is over. Bye!
