ХОД УРОКА
Teacher: Good afternoon, dear friends and dear guests! Welcome to our party! The meeting of our club is dedicated to the greatest playwright in the world literature – O. Wilde! Today we shall have a chance to learn about one of the most mysterious figures in British literature, a person who said about himself– “The Gods have given me almost everything”. <Рисунок 1>
During the meeting we shall try to answer these questions:
1. What kind of a person was O. Wilde?
2. What gifts were given to him by the gods? <
Рисунок 2>Teacher: And now let’s remember some facts from O. Wilde’s biography. Please, answer my questions?
1. Where was O Wilde born?
2. What education did he receive?
3. Where did he study?
Student: O. Wilde was born on October 15, 1854 in Dublin. His father, William Wilde, was a well-known Irish doctor and scientist. His mother, Lady Wilde, was a well-educated woman. She knew classical languages, wrote poems and collected old Irish legends. This emancipated woman influenced her son greatly. Oscar received a very good education. First he studied at Trinity College in Dublin. Then he continued his education in the oldest and most famous British university, Oxford. He graduated from Oxford in 1878.
Teacher: Thank you. And what happened then?
Student: The young Wilde went to London. While still in Oxford, O. Wilde became known as an apostle of the decadent doctrine ‘Art for Art’s sake’. The aesthetic movement was fashionable at that time. Being a very talented and witty story-teller, Oscar attracted many people and became one of the leaders of the movement. In 1882 he went to America to deliver lectures on aestheticism. Before this trip, in 1881, O. Wilde published a volume of poetry. His poems are fine lyrics which describe the peculiar atmosphere and the character of English society.
Teacher: Thanks. Yes, O. Wilde wrote poems about nature, about London. These poems are wonderful. The style is almost perfect. They are very popular and loved by people. They were translated into different languages. Now you have a chance to listen to some of his poems. Some students of the group learned them by heart.

Teacher: The translations were made by some students.
(Звучат переводы стихов в исполнении студентов) <Приложение 1>, <Приложение 2>
Teacher: Thank you. Well – done. But what did O. Wilde write besides poems? What is his only novel?
Student 1: Besides poems O. Wilde wrote fairy-tales, plays, critical essays and a novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.
Student 3: His works are always very clever and they are vivid in style.
Teacher: We read the novel a year ago. Now, let’s remind some information about the novel.
Student:
You are to listen to the tape. There are two men in the room with Dorian Gray – the painter and Lord Henry. But at first let’s read out some new words. <Приложение 3>
1. Which words could refer to the physical appearance of old age?
O.K. Listen to the tape. The following sentences are from the text, but in some of them, a word has been changed. Listen and check. <Приложение 4>
Teacher: As we have already said O. Wilde was famous for his short and witty sayings. Let’s remember some of them. Your task is to match up the beginning of the saying with its end.
<Рисунок 4>
Teacher: Well-done. What clever of you! The next task is to guess a fairy-tale. <Приложение 5>
Our students read them with great interest. And, now, dear guests, we’d like to act out a scene from one fairy-tale. Your task is to guess what fairy-tale it is.
(Студенты показывают отрывок из сказки)
Teacher: In conclusion I’d like to say that the work of O. Wilde is a reflection of culture and life at the end of the 19th century. The characters of his books are always with us. We hope that we have managed to bring them closer to you today.
And to cut our long story short I’d like to add<Рисунок 5> Thank you for your attention!
