Good morning, boys and girls! I am happy to greet all the participants of our geographical club "Discovery". If you look at the blackboard, you will see that the topic of our lesson today is "Sights of London". Today I suggest you to travel around our home town and the capital of Great Britain. Try to forget that we are at the lesson. Let's have a friendly talk. I would like you to make your own project, a collage and say some words concerning your own ideas about interesting places of Sochi and London.

T: But the whole picture of Sochi will not be completed if we don't mention some more interesting places. I would like you to read about this beautiful city.
You will have only 5 minutes to look it through and to understand it. Then be ready to do the tasks to it.
Sochi
There are cities you don’t need to see twice to fall in love. Sochi is one of them. The town of Sochi stretches for 145 kilometers along the picturesque Black Sea coast of the western Caucasus. A mild subtropical climate, rare vegetation, a warm and azure sea and the curative springs at Matsesta.
Over three million people come here annually from the different parts of Russia and from many other countries.
Sochi is the Russia’s biggest health resort of national significance. There are hiking centers, a lot of hotels. There are more than 30 camps for children in Sochi. There is a glade of friendship in Riviera Park.
In 1973 a palm alley dedicated to the friendship of “twin” towns was set out in the Sochi Arboretum. Another symbol of peace and friendship is the three of friendship in Sochi.
Our city contains all beautiful spots: Lazarevskoe with its splendid beaches, Dagomys with its international tourist centre and tea plantations, Matsesta with its spas, Khosta with its beautiful yew and box tree grove, Adler where the resort township is located.
As for the history of Sochi I can say that it was founded in 1838. The foundation of Sochi as a health resort dates back in 1909.
During the October Rebellion Sochi was a small dirty town without electricity. During the Great Patriotic War Sochi was transformed into one big hospital. About half a million wounded soldiers restores their health in sanatoria and holiday homes in Sochi and went back to the front.
Well organized recreation facilities include the Festival Concert Hall, a circus, 6 theatres, 200 clubs and a lot of cinemas. Besides the museums of the history of Sochi, there are Ostrovskiy memorial museum and an art museum.

Welcome to London!
Well, as you know London, is the capital of Great Britain. It's a very big city. London is situated on the river Thames. About 9 ml people live in London. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is also a very old city. London is 2000 years old. London consists of 3 main parts: the City, the West End and the East End. The City is the Heart of London, it's financial and business centre. There are many banks, offices and firms there. The West End is the riches part of London. The main interesting places are situated there. And the East End is a working part of London.
P2: We start our tour from Trafalgar Square. It's the most popular place for people to meet. In the middle of the square there is Nelson's Column, which is 51 m. high.
P3: Now we are coming to Buckingham Palace. It is the most famous place in London. It is the home of the Queen. There are 600 rooms in it. It has an indoor swimming pool and a cinema.
P4: In front of us you can see the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the British government. Big Ben is one of the most famous clocks in the world.
P5: Look at this Picture!
One of the greatest English churches, St. Paul's Cathedral, is not far from the Tower of London. The Famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in the 17th century after the Great Fire. It took Sir Christopher Wren 35 years. It is a beautiful building with many columns and towers. In one of its towers there is one of the largest bells in the world.
P6: And this a museum. Madame Tussaud's is a wax museum. It is famous all over the world. There are a lot of kings, queens, politicians and stars. You can see famous people from the past and famous people of today. It is very popular – two million people visit it every year. There are about 4 hundred figures in the museum.
P7: Fantastic! And here is the river Thames. London stands on both banks of the river. The Thames is the deepest and most beautiful river in Britain. There are 27 bridges over the Thames and 8 tunnels under it.
P8: And now we are crossing Tower Bridge over the river Thames. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful bridges in London. It is more than 100 years.
P9: Wow! Look. This is St. Jame's Park. It is one of the royal Parks. It is the oldest and the smallest of the royal parks. It is near Buckingham Palace. There is a lake in St. Jame's Park which is famous for its water birds. You can see pelicans and ducks there. People like to rest in this park.
P10: The British Museum. And now you can see the British Museum. It has one of the largest libraries in the world. There are many old books and manuscripts there. Many great people worked in this library.

But it is impossible to see all interesting places of London in one day. We shall speak about some of them sometime later.
