Цели: Развитие критического мышления, посредством чтения текста.

Задачи:

  1. Развитие навыков чтения текста с целью понимания основного содержания.
  2. Развитие языковых навыков – устной речи (умение описывать знаменитых людей, высказывать мнение и догадку).

Этапы урока:

I. Introduction. Вступительное слово учителя о целях и задачах урока, о новом приеме и структуре урока.

I Stage – Exciting interest.

Вызов. Цели:

1 – актуализация имеющихся знаний по теме “Лица Лондона”, раздел “Мы тоже хотим быть известными”;
2 – пробуждение интереса к получению новой информации (прием “Кластер”).

St – T

– What are your associations when you hear the word “famous or outstanding people”.

– What do you think:

  1. What outstanding writers do you know?
  2. Do you know anything about Mark Twain?

II Stage – Comprehending.

Осмысление – работа с отрывком текста.

Цели:

  1. Поддержать активное восприятие материала и интерес к нему.
  2. Расширить знания по теме.

I ph. Reading the information about writers (T – Cl)

II ph. What do you think about the plot of the story (St 1– St 2)

(pupils give the predictions about the text)

III ph. – Reading the 1st part of the text. (2–3 min.)

T–Cl – Why did a club member came to Mark Twain ?

Y ph.– Reading the 3d раrt of the text (2–3 min.)

  1. Try to translate the sentence “ I could not make him laugh”.
  2. Discuss with your classmates why the club member asked Mark Twain to make his uncle laugh. Give your reasons.
  3. Give a title.

Paragraph I.

Mark Twain,the famous American writer,was well-known as a lecturer.Literary clubs often invited him to speak.Before one of his lectures a club member came to him and said:

Paragraph II.

“Mr.Twain,people say that you can tell very funny stories.I hope that during your lecture you will tell a story that will make my uncle laugh.He has not laughed for ten years”.

Paragraph III.

“I`ll do my best”.Mark Twain said.

When he began his lecture,Mark Twain noticed the club member. He was sitting in front of him with an old man who had a very sad face.

Paragarph IV.

Mark Twain began to tell jokes,one after another,”I told long jokes and short jokes,new jokes and old jokes,”Mark Twain told his friends.”I told every joke I knew and soon everybody was laughing.Everybody – but not the old man.He was looking at me with cold blue eyes.I couldn`t make him laugh,and I tried again and again.But nothing helped…”

Paragraph V.

After the lecture,the club member came to Mark Twain and said,”Thank you,Mr.Twain.I have never heard so many funny stories.””They weren`t funny enough for your uncle,”Mark Twain answered.”He did not even smile”.

“I know,” the man said.”He hasn`t laughed for ten years.But I didn`t tell you that he hadn`t heard anything for ten years.He is deaf”.
