1. Use the simple present in the active or passive voice to complete the sentences. Match the English proverbs with the Russian equivalents

  1. He (laugh) loudest who (laugh) last.
  2. A man (know) by the company he (keep).
  3. Appetite (come) with eating.

  5. All’s well that (end) well.

2. Match the Russian proverbs with the English equivalents

3. Complete the sentences with the possessive form of the nouns in parentheses. Match the proverbs with the Russian equivalents

5. Put questions to the underlined words. Match the English proverbs with the Russian equivalents

6. Read (or listen to) a proverb and its meaning. Use it in your answer

1. Live not to eat but eat to live.
Eating is not the main thing in our life. We must eat only to live a useful and interesting life.

2. If you want a thing well done, do it yourself.
It is best of all to try to do something yourself and do it well. Then you will not have to say that somebody’s work was done badly.

7. Read (or listen to) a proverb and use it your story

1. The more you live, the more you see, the more you see, the more you know.
Speak about the most important things that you have seen and learned this year.

2. Whom we love best, to them we can say least.
It is nice, of course, to say nice things to your mother, but what do you do for her to show your love?

3. A good beginning makes a good ending.
Does a good beginning help you to carry out your task well? Describe what you did well from beginning to end.

4. In every beginning think of the end.
Say how you plan to do an important thing and how you try to carry out your plan.

5. Wear the old coat and buy a new book.
Speak about the kind of books you usually read and what you can learn by reading books.
