In the Woods
In summer the days are long and the nights are short. The sun shines brightly. The
birds fly high up in the sky and sing beautiful songs.
In May, when lessons are over children go to the country. They are in the country all
summer long.
In the morning they wash, dress and have their breakfast.
Then they run to the fields, to the woods, or to the river.
They are out-of-doors all day long.
In August children come back to town. They are healthy and strong and they can begin their
lessons at school.
On the first of September they begin their lessons. They go to school every day of the
week, except Sunday.
They do not go to school on Sundays.
On Sundays Andy, Ann and Nelly go to the woods. They run and play in the woods and gather
mushrooms and beautiful red, yellow and brown leaves.
Today is Sunday. They are in the woods.
"Look, look, girls!" cries Andy. "A little rabbit! Can you see it over
there?"
"I can," say Ann and Nelly.
"Let's run and catch it," cries Andy.
Ann and Nelly run from the right and Andy runs from the left and they catch the little
rabbit.
Then the children go home.Ann and Nelly are carrying baskets full of
mushrooms, and Andy has the little grey rabbit in his arms.
