Форма урока: "круглый стол", с просмотром и обсуждением видеофильма о проблемах окружающей среды на английском языке.

Цели и задачи урока:
Образовательные задачи: Отработать и закрепить введённую лексику по теме, понимать текст с голоса на видеокассете извлечением основной информации, обсуждать проблемы по данной теме в монологических и диалогических высказываниях, закрепить употребление модальных глаголов.
Воспитательные задачи: Прививать чувство бережного отношения к окружающей среде, воспитывать у учащихся активную жизненную позицию.
Развивающие задачи: Развивать активность на уроке, навыки аудирования, устной речи, обучать делать выводы, самостоятельно решать проблемы по изучаемой теме.

Оборудование урока: "Книга для чтения" Клементьевой Т.Б. для 7-9 класса, учебник "Happy English" для 7-9 класса, видеокассета о проблемах окружающей среды, плакаты, лозунги по данной теме, карточки с заданиями, вопросы на доске:

  1. Do you personally worry about the environment
  2. What are the most serious problems connected with environment?
  3. Do you think that Man is the Master of Nature?

Карточки с текстами, картинки, открытки с видами Камчатки.

Ход урока.

I. Приветствие.
Teacher: Good morning, my dear. Today we'll speak about our Planet and the things which  threaten it.  Do you agree that our Planet is our home?
  Class: Sure. Yes, of course.
Teacher: Is it important to think and to act today if we want to save our home? Pupil1: I think, yes. It's very important because our children will live on the same planet,
I  suppose.
Teacher: Then look at the blackboard,  read this quotation and try to translate it.

II. Фонетическая зарядка.
"Mother Planet is showing us the red warning light - "be careful" - she is saying. To take care of the planet is to take care of our own house."

Ш. Беседа по проблемам окружающей среды.
Teacher: What are the names of the environmental problems of today?
Pupil 1, 2. 3: Littering, air pollution, water pollution, overcrowding, overpopulation, endangered species, animals which are almost extinct, destruction of natural resources.
Teacher: Can you guess which of these problems I'm going to describe?
—     This problem is caused by dumping wastes into lakes, rivers and other bodies of
water. They can spread many diseases.
Pupil 1: It's water pollution.
Teacher: Every day people throw away amazing amount of garbage and trash.
Tourists leave used cans and bottles in the forest, the owners of private houses in the
countryside get rid of their plastic bags and trash throwing them to the out-of-the way
places, far from their gardens.
Pupil 2: It's to my mind, a problem of waste and pollutions of our cities and forests. Teacher: Can you, please, describe the following problems? For example, destruction of natural  resources. Can you tell me anything about this problem?
Pupil 1: By the year 2030, they say, 25% of all animals, birds, fish and insects may be extinct.
Every year man cuts down more trees to make paper, wood, medicines. Rain forest
where millions of animals, insects live, are destroyed now too.
Teacher: And what about air pollution?
Pupil 2: More and more factories, cars, trucks add their "bad breath" to the air. Polluted air causes different diseases in big cities, such as cancer.
Teacher: Are there any environmental problems in Кamchatka?
Pupil 5: Yes, they are. I suppose they are:

  • littering
  • water pollution,
  • destruction of natural resources,
  • endangered species; animals which are almost extinct.

IV.       Подготовленные выступления учащихся по проблемам экологии на Камчатке.
Teacher: Let me introduce two representatives of "Green Peace" in Kamchatka. They are going to tell you about the things which worry our ecologists. They have brought some posters to show you.
Pupil 1: Fortunately, ecological situation in Kamchatka is rather favourable. The most polluted  zone is the territory of Petropavlovsk - Elizovo agglomeration. The problems are typical for such territories: pollution of air, water, ground, industrial waste and garbage. (Иллюстрируют рисунки свалок и мусора на территориях, прилежащих к городу).
Pupil 2: We have real threat for unique bioresource potential as well as for rare and endangers plant and animal species of Kamchatka peninsula. Many of them have been written into the "Red book of Nature". (Иллюстрирует картинки с животными и растениями Камчатки).
Pupil 3: The sea water is filled with industrial waste. The navy, the military units dump oil
products into the Avacha Bay and the rivers of Kamchatka. Our main trouble, I suppose,
is the Avacha Bay. It is one of the most beautiful and convenient bays of the world.
Now its water is spoiled by the town waste, oil products and harmful garbage of the
fleet. (Иллюстрирует фото побережья Aвачинской бухты).
Teacher: What problems were mentioned in the reports? What can we do to help our peninsula? Let's discuss and make decisions together.

V.        Групповая работа.     (Класс делится на подгруппы по 3 человека).
Каждой подгруппе выдаются карточки с отпечатанными текстами о проблемах экологии на Камчатке и даётся задание предложить свои способы решения этих проблем. Кроме этого, на отдельных карточках выражения:
We  think... because...
As far as  I know...
Right.
Besides...
As for us...

После 10-минутного обсуждения их предложения выглядят примерно такими:

  • Parents must teach their children to protect nature, give them ecology knowledge.
  • Children must know: how to behave in the forest, in the country, by the river.
  • Everybody should love animals and plants, at school teachers must give knowledge to their pupils how to take care of their small "brothers and sisters".
  • Each family must not waste energy. We should turn off the light and the water when we don't need it.
  • School must organize "Green Clubs".
  • Nobody must cut trees and bushes in the forest.
  • If everyone pick up the litter in the neighbourhood, we'll have        streets.

Teacher: Well done. The group which coped with the task best of all will be awarded by "green" representatives. (Участникам победившей группы вручаются открытки с видами Камчатки).

VI.    Просмотр видеокассеты "Green Peace"

После просмотра беседа.
Teacher: What's the name of the problem in the film?
Pupil 1: Greenhouse effect.
Teacher: Can you translate into Russian?
Pupil 2: Парниковый эффект?
Teacher: Right you are. Have you ever heard of this problem before?
Pupil 3: No, I haven't.
Pupil 4: Yes, I have. On TV,  on magazines.
VII. Работа по карточкам.
Read the text and put in the words from the boxes. You may have to make some small changes.

The earth has been getting hotter because we are ... too many "greenhouse gases". There gases ... the heat. Trees and plants help take gases such as carbon dioxide when from the..., but we have now... too many trees.
There aren't enough trees and plants to do this... We make carbon dioxide when we... wood or... cars. CFCs (other dangerous gases) are in refrigerators and aerosol...

IX. Монологическая речь по объяснению смысла поговорки.
"The frog doesn't drink up the pond in which he lives". (Работа может прoводиться по группам или индивидуально)
X. Заключительный этап урока.
Все выполняют тесты в двух вариантах.
