Тип урока: комбинированный

Характеристика темы: преподавание ведется по учебнику Кузовлева В.П. и др. “English” для 10 класса общеобразовательных учреждений. Изучается II раздел “Western Democracies”, урок II “Parliamentary Democracy of the UK” .

Техническое обеспечение: экран, проектор, компьютер с презентацией учителя “The Houses of Parliament” (Приложение).

Ход урока

I. Организация начала занятия. Сообщение темы урока.

– Today we continue our talk about democracy and we are going to talk about Parliamentary Democracy of the UK.

II. Фонетическая зарядка.

– Let’s practice speaking the most important words you need to discuss this topic. Repeat after me (Student’s Book ex. 2, p.40-41).

III. Комментирование схемы.

– You know that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. What does it mean?

(This means that Great Britain is governed by the Parliament and the Queen is the Head of State. She has mostly representative functions.)

– Comment on this scheme (ex.3, p.41-42) in pairs and then we’ll discuss it.

IV. Просмотр, обсуждение презентации.

– So, the legislative branch is Parliament. The British Parliament is considered to be the oldest in the world. The job of modern Parliament is to make sure that the Government is working properly and in the public interest. The British Parliament consists of two houses: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Both houses share one and the same building – the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace (Приложение).

– Would you like to visit the Houses of Parliament?

V. Домашнее задание

– Use a search engine (Yahoo or Google, in English) to find out more about the British Parliament, the Queen or the Prime Minister of the UK and prepare a short report.
