Пояснительная записка
Данный урок проводится в рамках тем школьной программы, но включает самый разнообразный дополнительный материал, тем самым расширяя лексическую и речевую базу учащихся. Особенность нестандартного урока заключается в том, что нетрадиционные методы и приемы обучения не просто повышают мотивацию обучения детей, но и служат развитию тех или иных способностей. Кроме того, урок-КВН проводится в игровой форме и носит обучающий и соревновательный характер.
Цели урока:
- развитие монологической и диалогической речи учащихся по теме;
- совершенствование коммуникативных навыков и умений.
Задачи урока:
- Образовательные: расширить кругозор учащихся по выбранной теме; совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком; повторить пройденные лексические единицы и изучить новые в игровой форме.
- Познавательные: активизировать лексический материал по теме “Travelling along Russia and Britain”.
- Воспитательные: воспитывать умение внимательно слушать своих одноклассников; формировать уважение к традициям и обычаям другой страны; повысить интерес к изучению английского языка.
- Развивающие: развивать умения высказывать свои мнения, развивать творческие способности учащихся; развивать коллективную деятельность.
Тип урока: урок обобщения и систематизации знаний с изучением новых знаний по теме.

Ход урока
I. Оргмомент.
Учитель приветствует учащихся и сообщает им, чем они будут заниматься на уроке.
Teacher: Dear boys and girls! Today we have a special lesson in a form of a competition between two teams of your English group: “Leaders” and “Magicians”. You will have special tasks on topics: “Travelling”, “Capitals”, “Countries”. Let me introduce my assistants the 10-formers. They are…(introduction). Please, keep in mind three main things: correctness, expressiveness, quickness. My assistants will give you marks for each task. Are you ready? Let’s start.
II. Oсновная часть урока. Развитие монологической и диалогической речи учащихся.
(В основной части урока проверяются домашние задания учащихся на повторение страноведческого материала по теме, распределенные за неделю до открытого урока).
Teacher: Task 1 is “Greeting of the teams”. “Leaders”, please.
P1-P4:
To keep your friendship brimming
With love in the loving cup,

Teacher: And now “Magicians”, please.

Teacher: Thank you, Task 2 is “A Competition between Captains”. Dear Captains! Your task is to tell us your biography in brief and show your hobbies. Time!
P1: My name is N. I was born in S. 19.. . I’m the 8-former now. I am a good student and get 5-s and 4-s. My favourite school subjects are History, Literature and English. I am fond of singing, dancing and drawing. I take an active part in our class and school activities. I am a happy person. My favourite musical group is “Beatles” and I want you to listen to one of the songs of this group which I’m going to sing together with my friends.
P1-P8 (singing):

P2: My name is L. I was born in N. 19. and I’m in the 8-th form too. I try to study well and get good marks. My favourite subjects are Maths, English and Physics. I also have many friends. I’m fond of collecting computer games. I like drawing flowers, castles, portraits. Have a look at them. Do you like my works?
Teacher: Yes, we do. They are splendid. Thank you, Captains. And now I invite you to travel and to see something new. What mean of traveling will you choose? Show us, please. It was your hometask. “Leaders”, you will be the first to start.
P1: We prefer traveling by air.
P3: Ladies and Gentlemen! You are welcome on the board of plane of our Russian Company “Airflot” which is taking the flight 532 from Moscow to London. The time of the flight is 3 hours. We are going to fly at a speed 900 Km per hour at an altitude 10 000 metres. During the flight you shouldn’t smoke, stand up or walk in the saloon, you should fasten the belts and sit in your arm-chairs. Our service is at your disposal: headphones to listen to any music you like, dinner and video-films. Have a pleasant time, thank you.
P4: Off we go! I like traveling by plane. It is the most comfortable and quickest way.
P5: Right you are! What beautiful views of forests, rivers, seas and oceans and cities under us are! The clouds are so white and curl!
P4: They really are!
P6: Would you like a cup of coffee, tea?
P7: Coffee, please.
Teacher: Thank you. “Magicians”, please.
P2: My classmates and I prefer to ride a bike. It’s what you need! It’s cheap, quick and healthy. Of course, it needs a lot of energy. But would you like to get the most of your holiday?.. This is the best way to do it.
Teacher: “Leaders” have arrived in London. What can you tell us about the capital of Great Britain?
P3: Attention, please! I’m your guide and I’m going to tell you many interesting things about London. London is situated upon both banks of the river Thames, it is the largest city in Britain and one of the largest in the world. Its population is about 7 million people. It is a big port and the most important commercial, manufacturing and cultural centre. London has been a capital for nearly a thousand years. Many of its ancient buildings still stand. The most famous are the Tower of London, where the crown jewels are kept, Westminster Abbey where all the monarchs since William the Conqueror have been crowned and many are buried there; St. Paul’ Cathedral is the most striking building, Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece. Many visitors want to see the Houses of Parliament with a famous clock Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s home with its changing of the Guards. London’s City is the financial centre of the UK with many banks, offices and Stock Exchanges. The West End is a place of historical palaces and famous parks. Hyde Park with its Speakers Corner is also here. It is the area of the largest departures stores, cinemas, hotels, theatres, concert halls, museums including the British Museum, art galleries. The East End of London with kilometers of docks is formerly unattractive in appearance, but now changing because of introduction of new industries.
Teacher: Thank you. “Magicians” like traveling around their own country. What do they know about its capital.
P10: Moscow is a capital of Russia, its administrative, economic, political and educational centre. It’s one of Russia’s major cities with the population of 9 mln people. The city was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1147. Moscow is known for its beautiful old cathedrals, churches and monasteries. The Kremlin stands at the heart of the city which used to be a fortress and now a cluster of museums and theatres, government offices. There are many museums and art galleries here, among them the unique Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and The State Tretyakov Gallery, the famous Bolshoy and Maly Art Theatres. All the ceremonies are held in Red Square, here we can see St. Basil’s Cathedral the Blessed. Alexander Gardens are located beneath the Kremlin walls. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is near the entrance to the Gardens. It’s the major memorial to the warriors of the Great Patriotic War. Moscow is a major industrial city. Its leading industries are engineering, chemical, light industries. It is also a city of science and learning with 80 high educations including many universities.
Teacher: I think, this information is very useful for any travelers. While visiting London, “Leaders” made friends who asked questions about our country. Can you answer these questions:

- What is Golden Ring of Russia famous for? (the towns with typically Russian architecture: Suzdal, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Yaroslavl)
- What is Matryoshka? (It’s a national wooden doll with a smaller one inside each other)
Teacher: Thank you. We are going to listen to our second team about Great Britain.
P6: Great Britain is the name of the largest Island of the British Isles consisting of England, Scotland and Wales. When we talk about the whole country we also name Northern Ireland. There are flat plains and hills in the South and East. Mountain areas are in the North and West. In this country you are never very far from the coast and there are a lot of seaside resorts. There are many lakes. Wales is a high land country of old hard rocks, valleys and hills. The country has no big rivers. And it is not very cold in winter and not very hot in summer. The weather is changeable, it rains much, so the British people always have umbrellas with them.

Teacher: Well done, dear children. The team “Magicians” prepared their pictures, photos, projects of our country.
P2: Hello, I’m Russian Barbie. I live in Russia, the largest country in the world. Russia is washed by twelve seas and three oceans. Our country borders on many countries, such as Mongolia and China in the south-east, Finland and Norway in the north-west, and so on. The land of Russia varies from forests to deserts, from high mountains to deep valleys. The main mountain chains are the Urals, the Caucasus and the Altai. The climate in Russia varies from arctic in the north to continental in the central part of the country and subtropical in the south. Russia is a constitutional republic, with President as Head of State.

Oh, Russia, I’m in love with you!
Remember, Russia, you are great
Not in the field of battles past
But in the lush green fields of wheat
And forests, gardens, free of dust.
I love you deeply, dear land,
