Я работаю в общеобразовательной школе, но на протяжении нескольких лет в качестве базового учебника использую УМК «Английский язык» О.В.Афанасьевой и И.В.Михеевой для школ с углубленным изучением английского языка.
Этот учебник предоставляет преподавателю много возможностей для творческой работы на уроке, для разработки и проведения новых форм работы с учащимися. Большой интерес у учащихся вызывает страноведческий материал, посвященный истории страны изучаемого языка, а также Лондону, столице Великобритании.
Предлагаю вашему вниманию разработку урока-экскурсии по Лондону. Данный урок может быть проведен в конце изучения страноведческого материала для обобщения и систематизации изученного лексико-грамматического материала.
Тема урока: “ London – the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.
Тип урока: урок обобщения и систематизации знаний.
Цель урока: обобщение знаний учащихся по теме.
Образовательная задача: практика учащихся в чтении, аудировании и говорении по теме.
Воспитательная задача: повышение интереса учащихся к изучению английского языка, а также формирование у учащихся уважения и интереса к стране изучаемого языка, её культурным ценностям.
Развивающая задача: развитие зрительной и слуховой памяти, логического мышления, коммуникативных умений.
Оснащение урока: карта Великобритании, фотографии основных достопримечательностей Лондона, аудиозапись текста о Лондоне, тесты.
Ход урока
1. Организационный момент. Беседа с дежурным.
2. Введение в урок.
Тeacher: Dear Friends! I am sure that all people like to travel. We learn the English language and it's very interesting for us to visit any of English -speaking countries. But it's not always possible. So I offer you to have an imaginary trip to Great Britain today.
During our trip we shall read an interesting text about London, listen to some useful information about the city and do different exercises.
3. Речевая зарядка по теме : " What do we know about Great Britain ? "
Т.: Before visiting any foreign country we read books about it or look for some interesting information. We have read and learnt a lot about Great Britain. So let's see what we know about this country and its capital.
P1 will ask you some questions. Be attentive and answer these questions.
Pupil 1:
- What is the official name of the country?
- How do we call the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in everyday speech?
- Where is the country situated? Show it on the map, please.
- What is the largest island?
- What oceans wash the country?

Stewardess: Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! This is your stewardess speaking. I am glad to welcome you on board our plane. We are flying to London. Listen to some information about the city.
London is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is its political and cultural centre. London is situated on the river Thames. There are 27 bridges over the Thames and 8 tunnels under the river.
London is the biggest city in Britain. More than 7 million people live and work there. It is one of the most important cities in the world. It is a centre for business and for tourism. London consists of three parts: the City of London, the East End and the West End. In the City of London there are many banks, offices and Stock Exchange. In the West End we can see many historical places, parks, shops and theatres. It is the world of rich people and money. The East End is the district where working people live and work. The Port of London is also there. You can have a very good time in our city. You can visit different cinemas, theatres and museums. The "Odeon" is one of the most famous cinemas of the country. The most famous museums are : The British Museum and the Tate Gallery. There are many shops in London. Oxford street is London's main shopping centre. People from all over the world buy clothes, shoes, toys and souvenirs there. The street is more than a mile long. The best known departments are Selfridges and John Lewis. Visit our parks. The largest park in London is Hyde Park with its Speaker's Corner. Sit on the green grass and try England's favourite food - fish and chips.
Many people think that London is grey. But in fact red is London's favourite colour. Taxi, London underground and red buses will take you in every part of the city. Have a good time in London !

Т.: We need several guides because we are going to visit several places of interest. Who wants to be a guide? Come here. Here you can see several cards. Take any card and see, what you will tell us about. I give you one minute to prepare.
- St. Paul's Cathedral.
- Trafalgar Square.
- Westminster Abbey.
- Buckingham Palace.
- The Houses of Parliament.

7. Чтение текста " The Tower of London".
Т.: Now imagine that we are having a rest at the hotel. Let's read an article from the magazine. The text is about the Tower of London. Read the text to yourself and then aloud as well as you can. I give you a few minutes to prepare.

8. Quiz about London.

- William the Conqueror built it. It was a fortress and a royal palace. Later it was a prison and even a zoo. Now it is a museum. ( The Tower).
- It's a place where the Prime Minister lives. (Number 10 Downing Street.)
- The financial centre of London. (The City of London).
- The best cinema in London. (The Odeon).
- The memorial that is in the centre of Trafalgar Square. (The memorial to Admiral Nelson).
