Образовательная цель: формирование коммуникативной компетенции учащихся.

Воспитательная цель: развитие творческой активности и мышления учащихся, воспитание толерантности друг к другу.

Практическая цель: выработка умений и навыков вдумчиво слушать и понимать иноязычную речь в единстве её содержания и формы.

Методы обучения: проектно-исследовательский метод, коммуникативный метод, эмоционально-деятельный метод, личностно-ориентированный подход.

Последовательность выполнения видео проекта.

  1. Приветствие. Целеполагание (определение темы).
  2. Планирование урока (анализ проблемы, выдвижение гипотез).
  3. Основная часть урока (поиск информации, выполнение заданий видео проекта).
  4. Заключительный этап видео проекта (раскрытие главной цели урока с выходом на говорение, оценка результатов).
  5. Рефлексия.

Ход урока

I. Greeting.

Teacher: Good afternoon, dear friends! I am very glad to see you. Today we are going to see The Learning English Video Project. The film profiles a handful of learners from diverse backgrounds, including students from different countries. One of the main messages from the film is that learning English is becoming a necessity in many parts of the world. So the topic of the lesson is “Think English, Speak English”. The aim of our lesson is to find out why studying English is important for us (Presentation 1st slide).

II. Warm-up.

Teacher: What do you think on this point? (Students’ answers). Now let’s watch the introduction. The Learning Video Project was taken in America so I offer you to try the quiz about America.

Activity 1

Teacher: How much do you know about America? Test yourself with this 'true or false' quiz (Presentation 2nd slide).

Students answer the questions guessing, if necessary, compare their answers. Elicit answers – feeding them.

  3. New York was originally called New Amsterdam. (True)

Activity 2

Teacher: Now watch the first part of the film about learning English in the USA. As you watch, fill in the table below (Presentation 3rd slide).

Students read table contents before watching video, watch first four interviewees and fill in the table. Elicit general feedback.

Teacher: The interviewees in the film answer the following questions. Read the questions below.

Students read the questions.

Activity 4

Teacher: Watch the interviewees answering the first question and tick the answers you hear on the list below.

Be careful: there are two answers on the list below which are not mentioned in the video!

Students watch the video and answer Question 1 (Why do learners visiting New York think studying English is important?). Elicit feedback.

1. English is useful when speaking with tourists. (True)

Teacher: Watch the interviewees answering the second question and find out who makes the following statements. You will hear four persons: Lee, Carolina, Adrian and Anetta.

Students read the questions, watch the video and choose their answers on Question 2 (What problems do people have when learning English?). Elicit answers.

7. ……Anetta…. says that it can be difficult to find the right expressions when speaking.

8……..Lee….. says that English grammar is very different from his/her native tongue.

9……Carolina…. .says that s/he found listening and speaking a bit hard.

10……Adrian… says that s/he found English grammar difficult at first.

Teacher: Watch the interviewees answer the third question.

Students watch the video and answer Question 3 ( How does being in New York help with these problems?). Elicit feedback.

11. You can improve your vocabulary and grammar outside class and hear different accents.

12. You can listen to songs in English.

13. You can speak a lot with other students and hear a lot when you go outside, for example, into the street or into the shop.

14. You overcome the fear of not speaking English fluently.

15. You gain confidence and stop worrying about getting job.

Teacher: Watch the interviewees answering the forth question. Put this advice in the order you hear it on the video.

Students read the pieces of advice, watch this part of the video and put the advice in the correct order. Question 4 (What tips do learners visiting New York have for other learners of English?). Elicit feedback.

A. If you can't travel abroad, take English seriously: practise for at least 2 hours every day or do an intensive course.

B. Go to a country where English is the native language because you start thinking in that language.

C. Watch television.

D. Go to a city where everyone speaks English because you have to speak English to connect with people.

E. Talk a lot with native speakers, even if you make mistakes.

F. Practise more: speaking, accents. Get a government grant to travel, if you can.

IV. After watching Video Project.

Activity 5

Teacher: You’ve just watched Video Project about learning English in the USA. And the main point of our lesson is to find out why studying English is important for us (Presentation 4th slide). Work in pairs and discuss your answers to the next question: Why studying English is important for us? Try to use the following phrases to prepare your discussion:

1 to expand (enrich) one’s knowledge

2 to open up new opportunities

3 to be interested in the culture of other people

4 to communicate with different people

5 to know the culture of different nations

6 to give you self-confidence when you go abroad

Students work in pairs and discuss their answers to the questions. The teacher monitor them. Elicit feedback.

V. Reflection.

Teacher: Thank you for good job at the lesson. I like (the students’ names) perfect speaking and well doing exercises. Another students have to work harder (the students’ names.) And your marks for today are….

Your home task for today is the next. Imagine your are making a film “Tales from Russia”. Make up some questions about an importance of learning English in your country. (Presentation 5th slide). Do you have any questions about your homework. Thank you. The lesson is over. See you later.
