5. Rudyard Kipling wrote a lot of interesting tales, stories, and wonderful poems. We shall listen to one of his poems now.

I have six honest serving men,
They taught me all I knew.
Their names are: What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.

I send them over land and sea,
I send them East and West,
But after they have worked for me
I give them all a rest.

Let's read the Russian translation of this poem.

Words What, Why, When, How, Where, Who help us to learn something new, to ask questions.

Do you know them? Let's check.

6. This is the first serving man. Read his name: What. He wants to ask you some questions.

  • What is your name?
  • What is your surname?
  • What is your favourite sport?
  • What is your favourite fruit?
  • What is your favourite season?
  • What season is now? What are spring months?
  • What is your favourite colour? What colour is your pen? Etc.

7. This is the second serving man: Who. He wants to know who has lost these things.

  • Who has lost his tail? (Eeyore)
  • Who has lost his honey? (Winnie)
  • Who has lost his balloon? (Piglet)
  • Who has lost his key? (Buratino)
  • Who has lost his jam? (Carlson)
  • Who has lost his carrot? (Rabbit)

letter postman poster Hobbit
postcard pen sister post office
stamp pencil envelope letter-box

9. Третий слуга When просит детей совместить картинку с изображением праздника и карточку с датой: When are these holidays?

  • New Year's Day is on the 1st of January.
  • Valentine's Day is on the 14th of February.
  • The Day of the Republic of Bashkortostan is on the 11th of October.
  • Christmas in Russia is on the 7th of January.
  • Christmas in England is on the 25th of December.

10. The forth serving man Why wants to teach you a rhyme:

Why, why, why?
Can you tell me, why
I can run, I can jump,
But I cannot fly?

Can you run? Yes, we can. Stand up and run, please.
Can you jump? Yes, we can. Jump, please.
Can you fly? No, we cannot.

Looby Loo".

Here we go Looby Loo,
Here we go Looby Light,
Here we go Looby Loo,
All in a Saturday night.

Put your right hand in,
Put your right hand out.
Give your right hand a shake, shake, shake
And turn yourself about.
Put your left hand in,
Put your left hand out.
Give your left hand a shake, shake, shake
And turn yourself about.
Put your right foot in,
Put your right foot out.
Give your right foot a shake, shake, shake
And turn yourself about.
Put your left foot in,
Put your left foot out.
Give your left foot a shake, shake, shake
And turn yourself about.
Here we go Looby Loo,
Here we go Looby Light,
Here we go Looby Loo,
All in a Saturday night.

12. This is the fifth serving man - Where.

Where do you live? Where are you from?

I have got two friends.

This is a dog. He is very clever. He likes to read. He is reading a book.

And this is a bear. He doesn't like to read. He likes to play hide-and-seek.

- Where is the bear?

- The bear is under the table (behind the blackboard, on the bookcase, in the bag, etc.)

13. The sixth serving man How asks questions:

How are you? How old are you? How many pupils (boys, girls) are there in your class? How many desks (chairs, windows) are there in your classroom?

14. Here is a letter for you. Let's read it.

Dear friends.

I would like to be your pen friend. My name is Evan. I am from America. I like to sing. I have a dog. My dog's name is Liza. My favourite sport is basketball.

Please write back.

Yours, Evan

15. Do you want to be Evan's pen friends? Do you want to learn more about him? What questions would you like to ask him? Let's write a letter to Evan.

Here are some questions for Evan. But some words are missing. Help serving men to find their places.

  • (What) is your surname?
  • (How) old are you?
  • (When) is your birthday?
  • (Where) do you live?
  • (Who) is your friend?
  • (Why) do you like to sing?
