Итоговый урок английского языка в 11-м классе по теме "Собеседование при приеме на работу" ("A job interview")

Тема урока: Собеседование при приеме на работу.

Цель урока:

  • Подготовить детей к собеседованию.
  • Умение вести правильный диалог.

Задачи урока:

1) Научить высказывать свое мнение;
2) Слушать диалог с пониманием чужой речи;
3) Отвечать и задавать вопросы по теме;
4) Научить вести диалог.

Урок комбинированный.

В начале урока детям предлагается разделиться на 2 группы, вспомнить слова, характеризующие способности и умения людей.

Стоя в кругу дети отвечают на вопрос: «Какими способностями или умениями ты должен обладать, чтобы быть успешным в работе?». Таким образом, получаются 2 группы, дети рассаживаются на свои места.

Предлагается посмотреть на картинки и сказать, что происходит. Дети должны догадаться о теме урока.

С чем у них ассоциируется собеседование при приеме на работу? Дети высказывают свое мнение.

Но как попасть на собеседование? Дети рассказывают, что нужно написать резюме. Они выбирают кандидатов из своих групп, которые представляют свои резюме. Участники групп должны быть готовы задать вопросы после прослушивания резюме.

Затем группам предлагается прослушать отрывок собеседования и выполнить разные задания: заполнить пропуски словами, обсудить в группе вопрос, кто из кандидатов давал более точную информацию, проанализировать список возможных ошибок и отметить предложения, которые услышал.

Далее работа с учебником. Предлагается просмотреть список вопросов, выбрать 2 -3 вопроса и, используя фразы, которые употребляются в официальных диалогах составить свои короткие диалоги. Диалоги заслушиваются и дети сами оценивают свою работу.

В конце урока старшеклассникам предлагается информация из журналов: «Как выбрать востребованную профессию?», «Как найти работу в Волгограде?» 

Theme: A job interview.
Level: Intermediate.
Age: 16.
Aims: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to prepare for a job interview, think and learn to express themselves positively.
Materials: Textbook, Workbook, handouts, pictures, tape, blackboard.

Stage I.

Good morning, children. Glad to see you. For our future work I suggest you to divide into two groups. Look please at the blackboard and remember these words. (Job requirements: a sharp mind, ambition, creativity, numeracy and literacy, artistic ability, dedication, administrative skills, individuality, initiative, ability to work to tight deadlines, physical strength, teamwork skills, leadership, ability to work under pressure, flexibility).
These are the adjectives and nouns for describing abilities and skills of people. Stand up please and make a circle. My question is: Which skills and abilities have you got to be successful in the job? Good. The first group is skills the second – abilities. Sit down.

Stage II.

Warming up. Look at the pictures, please. Describe what is going on? Good. Do you guess what the theme of our lesson is? Yes. A job interview. Today at the lesson we shall speak, listen to the dialogue, think and learn to express positively, ask and answer questions.

Stage III.

What is the job interview associated with?

Your minds. All right. But how can you get a job interview? Yes, of course, you are right. We have just written different resume.(Приложение 1).

Stage IV.

Choose please one candidate from each group. Take your seats. Listen to the task: take your resume and read them. Group №1 listen to attentively the candidate №2 and ask him 2 questions. Group №2 listen to the candidate №1 and ask him 2 questions too. The candidates be ready to answer the questions.

Stage V.

Now I would like you to listen to the dialogue. 2 candidates interviewed for the job of a salesperson in Happy Pizza. Take handouts. Fill in the gaps with the words from the dialogue. Do it individuality. Listen to very attentively.

Interviewer: What do you know about our company?

Anna: Your company is the … supplier of fast food in the world – everyone knows Happy Pizza. Sometimes I go to Moscow and I always like going to Happy Pizza here.

Boris: The whole world has heard of Happy Pizza and when I have visited your restaurants I have been very … by the service your staff … and the quality of the food – there are never any chips of  bone in your burgers that might damage my teeth! Also, I have been impressed … your staff seem to work well together and are polite to both the customers and to each other.

Interviewer: Why have you applied for this job?

Anna: My parents can’t … me as they would like to and I want to become more independent and stop being a burden on them.

Boris: As I said earlier, I would really like to … of the hostel into private accommodation, but as my parents cannot help me financially I must help myself. Also, I would like to become part of the … as I mentioned earlier and to … of working in an organization which is based in the west but has been operating in Russia for long enough to have adapted to Russian conditions.

(Words: best-known, impressed, provide, by the way, support, move out, team, get experience).
Check up. Which candidate is more likely to be given the job? Why? Discuss in groups.

Stage VI.

My dear friends I want you to make aware of possible mistakes at you future job interview and please analyze the list of possible mistakes and tick the sentences with them which you  have heard from the interview.   1. Giving irrelevant information.
  2. Saying something which makes the person seem less independent and mature.
  3. Not thinking about possible questions in advance.
  4. Giving only general information.
  5. Demonstrating negative attitudes and sounding negative.
  6. Not talking to someone who could give you a reference in advance.
  7. Giving answers like “no” or “I don’t know

Stage VII.

Now, I think you understand how to prepare for the interview, to answer the questions. Take please different types of tasks. Do it individuality. Write down your papers. (Приложение 2).

Stage VIII.

Open your books on p.49 Ex.4A.
Look through the list of questions you could expect during a first job interview. Find 2-3 interesting questions for you. Using the Language Support phrases make up short dialogues. Language support.

Stage IX.

And the last task for you.
I would like you to evaluate yourself. Give the points for yourself. Write down and give it to me. We will discuss the results next lesson. Your home task will be: AB p.28 Ex.9.
