Оборудование:
- карта России;
- карта США;
- карта Великобритании.
Ход урока
I. Организационный момент
Ознакомить учащихся с темой и целью урока, снять психологический барьер.
Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. The topic of our lesson is “At the Map of the World”. We shall try to describe the geographical position of Russia and some English-speaking countries. Be attentive and try to do your best. Good luck and let’s begin our lesson, we are really pressed for time! We have much work to do!
As you know we live in the largest country in the world, but are you happy to be a citizen of Russia? If so, why?
(Учащиеся высказывают свое мнение по заданному вопросу, используя выражения: to my mind, I think, I am sure, as for me …)
Thank you very much. Now I see that you love our country and I suppose you’d be nuts to leave our country for ever.

T- To be ready to present our great country, first let’s revise our vocabulary: you are to ask each other questions:

- which area Russia covers;
- where Russia lies;
- if our Motherland borders on many countries;
- how many countries our Motherland is bounded by;
- if there are many mountain ranges in Russia;
- which hemisphere Russia is located;
- what Russia is rich in;
- how many oceans Russia is washed by;
- what the population of our country is;
- if many rivers flow on the territory of Russia;
- what the official language of Russia is;
- how many nationalities live in Russia.

III. Аудирование рассказа о России с выбором правильной информации.
Next task is to listen to the story and find true and false information.
T- We live in the greatest state on the Earth. The total area of our country is 10 mln square km. It lies in Europe only and it borders on two states on land and 11 countries on water. The frontier of Russia is very long. Russia stretches from the Urals to the Pacific ocean. There are a lot of rivers on the territory of the country, but they are not very long because of the size of the state, the total number of the rivers is over one mln.
Russia is washed by many oceans and the coastline is broken. Russia is not rich in mineral resources, that’s why it is difficult to develop industry and agriculture in our country.

Now let’s take our newspapers and read some important information and statistics. Try to find new information and facts.

So, we know enough to present our great country Russia. One of you will go to the map of Russia and describe it, the rest of you will add, if necessary.

VI. Аудирование рассказа на русском языке.
I know that some of you are going to link your future professions with English. Imagine that you are a guide and you are to speak about our region. You will listen to my story and then you will render it into English.
Наша область называется Иркутской. Она расположена на юге Восточной Сибири. Область была образована 20 сентября 1937 года. Площадь составляет 767 000 квадратных километров и по размеру в 3 раза больше Великобритании. Она граничит с Бурятией, Красноярским краем, Тувой, Саха-Якутией.
Население области 2 560 000 человек. На территории Иркутской области протекает много рек. Наша область знаменита Байкалом – самым глубоким озером в мире. Мы гордимся ,что озеро Байкал находится в нашей области. Площадь Байкала составляет 31 500 км2. Флора и фауна Байкала уникальна: в нем находится более 850 видов растений и около 1500 животных.
Территория области покрыта горами (Саяны, Хамардабан). Наша область богата природными ресурсами. Есть залежи золота, угля, нефти. 75 % территории покрыты лесами, поэтому лесная промышленность развита хорошо.

Now I see that you can speak about our region well. But can you describe any country with the help of a map? Let’s see! I shall divide you into two groups and the first group will speak about the UK and the other one –about the USA. You can use the figures about these countries on the sheets of paper.
