- познакомить учащихся с творчеством американского писателя О. Генри;
- развивать речевые навыки говорения, активизировать познавательную деятельность учащихся, дать им возможность оценить свой уровень владения английским языком;
- развивать интерес учащихся к культурному наследию зарубежных стран.
Ход мероприятия.
T: - Good day , children. I am glad to see you again. Today we will
speak about books. We all have books. We use books at school
and at home. A book is our good friend. We have to care about
books. Do you like to read books? Do you know Russian
writers? Do you know foreign writers?

T: Today we will speak about greatest American writer. Its О. Henry.
P2: О. Henry it is not the real name. Its nickname. Look at the blackboard. Its О. Henry. The real name is William Sidny Porter. He was born in 1862 in the North Caroline. О. Henry is worldknown for his famous novelles « The heart of the West» , « The kidnapping of Red Chief» and many others. He died in 1910 in New York.
