What place would you like to mention as ideal for travelling?

Pupil 1: As for me, I would like to tell you many interesting things about London. London is situated upon both banks of the river Thames; it is the largest city in Britain and one of the largest in the world. Its population is about 7 million people. It is a big port and most important commercial, manufacturing and cultural centre. London has been a capital for nearly a thousands years. Many of its ancient buildings still stand. The most famous are the Tower of London, where the crown jewels are kept, Westminster Abbey where all the monarchs since William the Conqueror have been crowned and many are buried there; St. Paul’s Cathedral is the most striking building. Many visitors would like to see the Houses of Parliament with a famous clock Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s home with its charging of the Guards. London’s city is the financial centre of the UK, with many banks, offices and Stock Exchanges. The West End is a place of historical palaces and famous parks. Hyde Park with its Speakers Corner is also here. It is the area of the largest departures stores, cinemas, hotels, theatres, concert halls, museums including the British Museum, art galleries. The East End of London with kilometers of docks is formerly unattractive in appearance, but now changing because of introduction of new industries.

Pupil 2: I would like to visit Stonehenge 13 km from Solisbury (демонстрация и запись в таблице). We know from our text-book that it’s one of the European biggest stone circles 10 or 12 meters high of prehistorically time 1850-1400 BC. The Druids used Stonehenge for a calendar to know when the months or seasons started. On the 24th of June the Sun shines on the Heel Stone. It’s the longest day of the year. On that day we would see Druids festival. It’s a tradition. But according to another source (the news – paper) we found out that many parts of Stonehenge were built before the time of Druids and Pyramids in Egypt and that is could be used as an observatory for complex calculations and predictions of movements of sky bodies. So, it’s a kind of computer! I would like to see this strange place.

Pupil 3: I would like to take part in a festival. We know that the post-war years have seen a great growth in the number of arts festivals in Britain and other European countries. Among them the Edinburgh International Festival has now firmly established its reputation as one of the foremost events of its kind in the world. This is not surprising because everything in the arts, if it is first-class, is potentially an Edinburgh Festival attraction. On most evenings during the festival there are as many as six events to choose from on the official programme: symphony concerts, ballets, plays, recitals – all given by the finest artistes in the world.

The Festival was inaugurated in 1947. Glyndebourne Opera, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Old Vic Theatre and Sadler’s Wells Ballet were only a few of the participants of this first venture. The Festival was a success, and has been held annually ever since.

The festival is quite international in its character giving as a rule a varied representation of artistic production from a number of countries, and over the past few years it has had a definite theme, that is the work of one or two composers was studied in depth.

The festival has done a great deal in the development of arts in Scotland.. In addition to establish- ing the Scottish Festival Chorus, it helped to develop the Scottish opera and the Scottish National Orchestra. And one of the reasons for the festival’s success is that bit is easy for the visitors to make their arrangements, since Festival programmes are published as early as March, and the booking opens soon afterwards, at the beginning of April. The Festival Society which takes care of all these matters not only arranges for the visitors` tickets but also reserves accommodation. I think that it would be interesting to take part in such festival.

Teacher: Good morning boys and girls! Glad to see you. I believe, you are all right. Today we are going to have a very interesting lesson-exploration of ideal place for travelling. The results of a British  Thank you. You have given a lot of information about travelling to Britain. I agree that every year many people from different countries all over the world travel abroad for their holidays. For many of them, travelling is the most important event in the year and they try to find their own ideal place for travelling. But some people like travelling around their own country and they think there are a lot of places to visit here. What do they know about their capital? I know some of you have visited our capital and would like speaking about it.

Pupil 4: I was born in Russia and it is my native country. Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation, it is political, administrative, economic, industrial, educational and cultural centre. It’s one of Russia’s major cities with the population of 9 mln people. The city was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1147. Moscow is known for its beautiful old cathedrals, churches and monasteries. There are many places of interest in Moscow. There are a lot of historical monuments, museums, art galleries and theatres in the city. The Historical Museum, the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery are known all over the world. The Bolshoy, Maly Art theatres are famous too. The Kremlin – the oldest historical and architectural centre – is the heart of the city which used to be a fortress and now a cluster of museums and theatres, government offices. All the ceremonies are held in Red Square; here we can see St. Basil’s Cathedral the Blessed. The Historical Museum locks the other end of Red Square. Next to it one can see the reconstructed Iverskay Chapel and the Resurrection gates. Alexander Gardens, laid out at the beginning of the 19th century, are located beneath the Kremlin walls. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is near the entrance to the Gardens. It’s the major memorial to the warriors of the Great Patriotic War. Moscow is a major industrial city. Its leading industries are engineering, chemical, light industries. It is also a city of science and learning with 80 high education institutions including many universities. I have been in Moscow with my parents several times and I think this city is as ideal for travelling. Later I would like to get high education in Moscow.

Teacher: Good morning boys and girls! Glad to see you. I believe, you are all right. Today we are going to have a very interesting lesson-exploration of ideal place for travelling. The results of a British I think, this information is very useful for any travellers. The theme of our lesson is ideal place for travelling… Where is it? What do you think about the answer of this question? Have we got any answer during our lesson? What is your opinion?

Pupil 5: Attention, please! You are planning a visit to Russia or Britain. What do you want to see? Is it really worthwhile? Suppose you have never been there. First, you will ask your friends. If they do not have any ideas, you will buy guidebooks or search the internet. Then you will discover that many guidebooks are lousy, and that you can relatively easily find information on a small number of top attractions (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novgorod, the Golden Ring, London or Scotland) but almost nothing beyond that. If you do not read Russian or English, then for many attractions you will not find anything. And, besides, to find something you need to know what you are searching for – what is interesting to see in Russia or in Britain .Where is an ideal place for traveling? As for me, I have never been to Britain. I live in a village not far from Togliatti. Togliatti is a town on the left bank of the Volga river. It is in 95 km. from Samara. It was founded by Russian statesman V. N. Tatishchev as a fortress in 1737. Its name was Stavropol (Stavropol-on- the Volga). In 1954-55 it was transferred on the new place. Since then rapid growth of town started. In 1964 the town was renamed in Togliatti. Togliatti is famous for its car industry. One of the biggest auto plants is in this town. It is one of the youngest towns of Russia, and it is not only industrial, but also cultural and educational town. I like this town. If you want to visit our town I will be your guide with pleasure. It would be a nice trip.
