Teacher: Today we are going discuss the theme "Going abroad: pros and cons."
You will read the arguments for and against tourism. By the end of our lesson you should decide if traveling useful or not.

3. Teacher: Every year a lot of people from different countries, all over the world travel abroad in their holidays. For many of them, traveling is the most important event of the year.
Ex.1, p. 54.
Teacher: Open your books at pages 54-55. You can find some opinions about traveling abroad. Which of the opinions are in favour of going abroad? Find the arguments against tourism.
FOR:
Pupil 1: Traveling broadens the mind.
Pupil 2: People work all year - they would like to relax sometime!
Pupil 3: Travel has always been a part of people's educations. It teaches people about art and culture.
Pupil 4: You can also improve your knowledge of foreign languages.
CONS:
Pupil 5: Tourism destroys ancient cultures and traditional ways of life.
Pupil 6: Now in some places people can't swim in the sea, because the water is so polluted.
Teacher: Which opinions are these? Children's or adults'?
Pupil 1: I think these are adults' opinions.

Teacher: Teenagers from some British schools were asked to write an article for a travel magazine and share their opinions about tourism. Read their opinions and answer the questions.
Teacher: What does David think about traveling abroad?
Pupil 1: He thinks that travel has always been a part of people's education and it's the biggest business in some countries.
Teacher: Is David for or against tourism? What are his arguments?
Pupil 2: He is for tourism. It teaches people about art and culture. It teaches them to de understanding. You can also improve your knowledge of foreign languages.
Teacher: How does David feel about traveling with parents?
Pupil 3: He is happy. He sees more time of his Dad. He is fun on holidays and gives him more pocket money.

Teacher: Is Alison of the same opinion as David?
Pupil 4: No, she doesn't.
Teacher: What place does Alison mention as ideal for holidays? What are her arguments?
Pupil 5: It is home. Your family and friends are near you. You don't have to wait at the airports. You can watch your favorite videos.
Teacher: What problems trouble her?
Pupil 6: Tourists have no respect for her countries they visit. The beauty of many places has disappeared forever. Many places are polluted.
d) Teacher: Children tell me, please. If you will go to Britain, what song you sing? What is the most popular song in Britain?
"Auld Lang sine" (singing the song)

a) Teacher: Look at the picture! Which of the following things you think you will need if you are going to have holidays abroad?
Students: A passport, a visa, a healthy insurance, a ticket.
Teacher: Well, you know what you will need if you are going to abroad. But where can you get information about country, where are you going?
Students: In travel agents.
Teacher: Today, travel agents offer all kinds of holidays to all types of people. Let's visit some of them: "International tourism" and "The Star".
(Children tell the dialogs, which they made at home.)
At the agency "International tourism" in Russia
Travel agent: Good morning. Can I help you?
Visitor: Yes, please. I'd like to go to the Scotland this autumn. Where can get some information about holidays in Britain?
Travel agent: Oh, that's quite easy. I'll give you some travel leaflets. You'll find lots of information there.
Visitor: Thank you. Uh: I'm found of history. And I'd like to visit historical places of Scotland. What can you suggest?
Travel agent: No problem. We have some special tours.
Visitor: One more question, please. How much will it cost?
Travel agent: In this leaflet you'll find all the prices.
Visitor: Thank you.
5. At the agency "The Star" in Scotland
Visitor: Hello.
Travel agent: Oh, hello. What can I do for you?
Visitor: I'm going to the St.Petersburg in June. And I'd like to make the most of my holidays. What would you advise me to visit?
Travel agent: Oh, there are a lot of special tours. They'll take you to all the important historic places. Um:. just a minute. I'll give you some brochures about sightseeing of St. Petersburg. There's a lot to see.
Visitor: Thanks. That's great. And what's the weather like in June?
Travel agent: June? It's usually quite warm. And you can see the white nights in June. There are so beautiful.
Visitor: The white nights? Oh, good . Can you tell me anything about travel procedures, what travel documents do I need? How much money can I take? Things like that.
Travel agent: All that information you'll find in this leaflet. Here you are.
Visitor: Great. Thank you very much for your help and leaflets. See you soon.
Travel agent: Bye.
Teacher: And what about your opinions? Where would you like to go to? And in your country?
