Сценарий мероприятия
1. Вступление. (Introduction).
Hello, dear friends! I congratulate you on this unusual day. This lesson is not an ordinary lesson; it is a game “What? Where? When?” And the main topic of it is “Holidays, Traditions, and Manners of the UK”.
We’ve invited the guests to this game. And let me introduce them: first – our representatives of school administration, second – our jury. They are the pupils of the 10-th Form. And also we can see two pupils of the 11-th Form but their mission is a secret for you now. Soon you will know it.
Let’s start our game. There are two teams here. They want to fight and win. Let’s wish them “Good luck!”
2. Команды представляют себя. (“Our Greeting and Visit card “).
The first task of each team is named “Our Greeting and Visit Card”. (It was a home task for each team).
Команда “Pumpkins”: Pumpkin is associated with Halloween, the Christian festival kept in honour of all the saints in the evening of 31st October. It was established in 835. Halloween is supposed to be the night when young people can, by observing certain rites, have their future wives and husbands disclosed to them. (For example, a girl takes a candle and an apple to a mirror and looks at her reflection in the mirror while eating the apple, the face of her future husband will be seen peeping over her shoulder.) On Halloween children wear grotesque masks of papier mashe and scoop out the insides of pumpkins, cut out designs on the outside and use the results as containers for candles. A favourite game at children’s Halloween parties is ducking for apple. [2]
The pumpkin in the patch, the pumpkin in the patch. Hi-ho on Halloween the pumpkin in
the patch.
The pumpkin calls a witch, the pumpkin calls a witch. Hi-ho on Halloween the pumpkin calls
a witch.
The witch calls a bat, the witch calls a bat. Hi-ho on Halloween the witch calls a bat.
The bat calls a ghost, the bat calls a ghost. Hi-ho on Halloween the bat calls a ghost. The ghost scares us all, the ghost scares us all. Hi-ho on Halloween the ghost scares us all. We all scare the ghost, we all scare the ghost. Hi-ho on Halloween we all scare the ghost.
Команда “Christmas Trees”: Christmas is an annual festival, observed on December 25, in honour of the birth of Jesus Christ. Its observance as a Christian festival dates from the 4th century. Only two hundred years ago British Christmas was totally different from Christmas we know today. There were no Christmas trees, pudding, turkey or even presents! Queen Victoria and her German husband Prince Albert decided to invent new-style Christmas Celebration. Victoria kept the pagan tradition to decorate the home with greenery. Christmas trees had already been popular with the British Royal families and it was Albert who brought them to all British people. Christmas trees were decorated with candles, toffees and gingerbread. [3]
Once in Royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed, where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed. Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
He came down to earth from Heaven, who was Christ and Lord of all, and his shelter was a stable, and his cradle was a stall. With the poor and mean and lowly lived on earth our Saviour holy.
Not in that poor lowly stable, with the oxen standing by, we shall see Him, but in Heaven, set at God’s right Hand on high when like stars His children crowned, all in white shall wait around.
3. Команды выбирают один из секторов.
Thank you very much for your representation.
Our contest begins. Turn the top and listen to your task. (Вращается волчок и с его помощью выбирается сектор вопросов).

Now , children, it’s time to know what the students of the 11-th form have prepared for you. They are going to give some information about a very popular Scottish song and sing it in English and then in Russian.
“Auld Lang Syne” is an old Scottish song that has become popular all over the world. The words are partly traditional and partly by Robert Burns. People in Britain usually sing this song when they celebrate the beginning of the new year. In Scotland, the first verse and chorus are sung with everyone holding hands in a circle. On the second verse, everyone crosses hands in front, giving his right hand to the person on the left and his left hand to the person on the right.

And days of auld lang syne, my dear, And days of auld lang syne, Should old acquaintance be forgot And days of auld lang syne?
2. And there’s a hand, my trusty friend, And gi’s a hand o’thine, We’ll take a cup o’kindness yet, For auld lang syne.
Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We’ll take a cup o’kindness yet, For auld lang syne.
