Our subject today is travelling or to be precise holidays in the XXL century. Actually it won’t be a lesson. It’ll be a conference. And you won’t be pupils. Some of you are going to be the representatives of famous travel agencies, while the others will be efficient independent experts, and eager listeners. Let’s start!
Let me introduce a well known tour operator who decided to find out what teenagers really want on holiday.
Презентация и дискуссия (30 мин.)
Speaker 1: Good morning, dear friends! Yes, a certain number of teenagers were interviewed to make their recommendations. Read the “Wish List” they produced. (slide 1).
So you see that some people prefer freedom to choose whether or not to participate in activities. Others like shopping trips, non-alcoholic discos in real nightclubs. Some choose discounts to bring friends. Teenagers who like extreme activities may choose water skiing or bungee jumping. And still other who are most outgoing and communicative like Blind Date and Karaoke competitions.
Speaker 2: What is the purpose of holiday to you? Do you agree or disagree with this “Wish List” and what would you change? ( обсуждение с помощью карточек Language- Support )
Вывод :
- So you see the difference between our and their interests is quite clear. Или
- So you see that teenagers all over the world are alike.
Expert 1: You already know that there are different types of holiday. We have chosen six of the best different types of holiday. They are: (slide 2). Which one would you prefer? To know it better you’re going to listen to our presentation. Listen to our experts but be careful! We’re going to have a quiz afterwards and listen to your opinions.
Ученики выступают с подготовленными дома сообщениями.
Expert 1: Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen! Could I have your attention, please? Let me open the presentation.
(slide3) Beach Holiday.
This is a wonderful place not only for those who like scuba diving, but for everyone who would like to relax on a beach ( which is possible during the whole year) or enjoy the nightlife. If you take an optional course, it only takes four days to pick up the basics of scuba diving. For the first time you can try it even in the local pool. If you don’t like scuba diving you can always take yourself for a swim with the local dolphin population or go sunbathing on the beach.
Expert 2: Educational Holiday:(slide 4)
On such tour you can do your bit for the planet while enjoying some of the most beautiful sights of the natural world. You’ll be taking photos to identify individual animals, You’ll be studying the behaviour of some amazing sea animals. And you don’t have to be too serious to enjoy this sort of working holiday, but you have to be fairly fit!
Expert 3: (slide 5) Sightseeing Holiday.
People like visiting other cities too .Bilbao is one of them. There are of course, fantastic shops and restaurants in the centre, but you can also find places that are much cheaper where the local people go to shop and eat. And those local people are exceptionally friendly. They are keen to tell you all the background to the sights and local customs.
Expert 4 : Activity Holiday.(slide 6)
One of the Ways of travelling in your own country is an activity weekend.. This is the kind of tour, where you travel to the countryside doing different sports. For example, you can choose between caving, canoening, orienting, archery, rock-climbing and even abseiling off a 30-metre bridge.
If you choose archery you’ll go to a special court. Your group will be divided into teams. Caving is too dangerous, so you’ll have to wear a helmet and take a torch. Caving is very exciting !
Abseiling is probably the most frightening experience. You’ll have to abseil from a bridge which is as high as a 12- floor house. Rock-climbing is also great fun. If you choose rock-climbing you must be prepared for extremely dangerous entertainment
Expert 5: Cultural Holiday. (slide7)
“This holiday was sensational” reported one person who signed up for two weeks in the ancient farmhouse in Italy.” You meet people who all have something in common”. And this something is a love of good food and drink. Although there are opportunities to be on your own if you prefer, the long cooking sessions provide an ideal environment for getting to know your fellow guests.
Expert 6: Walking Off the Calories (slide 8).
This type of holiday is an ideal compromise for the food lover with a guilt complex. You can enjoy meals in small family run hotels, the 10-mile walk from one to another. There’ll be plenty of time to gossip non-stop with your companions both along the way and over dinner. Could there be a better way to make new friends?
Ученикам предлагается выполнить Quiz.(slide 9). C помощью этого задания учитель проверяет насколько учащиеся были внимательны Выслушиваются ответы и мнения учащихся.
Speaker 1: Dear friends! Let me introduce efficient independent experts from London .(Slide 10).
Expert 1: Glad to meet you. Changes in tourism? I’m sure, the holiday trade is going to be a boom industry in the coming decades! I wonder, what changes YOU can predict? Выслушиваются ответы учащихся.Свободная беседа по теме.
В течение 2-3 мин.
Expert 1: For a start: (slide 11) we expect a big increase in the amount of holiday travelling we do. The number of trips will go up by 4.1 % each year.
Expert 2: (slide 12): Travel and tourism will become the world’s largest industry in terms of the amount of money it makes
Listen to what other changes a representative of the world tourism organization speaks about: Практика аудирования (2мин.)
“ …The type of holidays that people take is also likely to change. In the 20th century, although many types of holiday were on offer, and sightseeing and activity holidays have always been popular with certain groups, it was the classic beach holiday that really attracted the largest groups of holidaymakers. That was where the biggest growth occurred, and with it the familiar development of tourist facilities in coastal resorts.
In the 21st century, however, tourists may well be looking for a different type of holiday experience. There is a tendency for people to be less attracted to hotels, for example, as self-catering accommodation becomes more popular. People don’t
necessarily want to be tied to fixed mealtimes, fixed menus, and the restrictions of small hotel bedrooms. They are willing to be more adventurous and independent, choosing to cook for themselves or to eat out in restaurants. Indeed, 21st
century tourists will increasingly be looking to sample the local culture when visiting other countries, particularly things like food and music.“
( Tapescript from Teacher’s Book Pearson Education 2001.) ( slide 13)
Краткая беседа по тексту аудирования.(3 мин.)
Experts ask questions. Students answer them..
Expert 1 makes a conclusion ( slide 14 ): So, we see tourists are increasingly looking to travel around more in the countries they visit. They are less keen to tour as part of organized group. They are interested in having a hire car.
They explore the country in depth. They prefer individual tours or in a family group.
Expert 2: (slide 15): Tourists are becoming more interested in variety. So, these are the changes that are predicted.
”Well live and see, won’t we?
