Цели и задачи:

  • закрепление лексического материала по теме “Town Life. London”;
  • совершенствование навыков аудирования, говорения, чтения;
  • формирование навыков языковой догадки;
  • формирование интереса к стране изучаемого языка, её истории, культуре, её столице – Лондону.

Оснащение:

  • табличка с надписью Time Machine на двери кабинета;
  • репродукции с изображением Ивана Грозного, Вильгельма Завоевателя, Марии Тюдор, Елизаветы I, В. Шекспира, А. Кристи, А. Конан Дойля, Ч. Чаплина;
  • картинки, изображающие Big Ben и London Bridge of the Roman times;
  • глобус;
  • раздаточный материал;
  • карточки с индивидуальными заданиями,
  • текст “The Great Fire of London” со смысловыми ошибками;
  • магнитофон, аудиозаписи.

ХОД УРОКА

I. Начало урока. Организационный момент.

II. Основная часть урока.

1. T: Today we’re going to London to study its history. We’re in the Time Machine now. First of all, let’s check up the time. What time is it in Velikie Luki (Moscow / London )?

And now let’s see what you know about London. I’ll start the sentences and you, please, continue them:

  1. London stands … on the River Thames.
  2. There are in fact 3 cities in London: … the city, the East End, the West End.
  3. There are 27 bridges … over the River Thames.
  4. There are 8 tunnels … under the River Thames.
  5. London is 46 kilometres … from north to south.
  6. London is 58 kilometres … from east to west.
  7. More than 7 million people … live in London.
  8. The royal Opera House … is in the centre of the vegetable market.
  9. The British Museum … was founded in 1753.
  10. St. Paul’s Cathedral … is one of the oldest churches in London.
  11. Bloomsbury Square … is 300 years old.
  12. Russel Street … is not far from Bloomsbury Square.

2. T: I see you know rather much about London, and now let’s leave for the first century.

(Звучит музыка, имитирующая перемещение машины времени. На доске – картинка с изображением London Bridge. Учащиеся отвечают на вопросы.)

  • What can you see in the picture?
  • What was the name of the town in the I century?
  • Who built the town on the River Thames? How many people were there in Londinium by the year 400?
  • Where was the river in Londinium?
  • What was special about London Bridge in that time?

3. T: The second journey is to the XI century.

(На доске – портрет Вильгельма завоевателя.)

T: What do you know about W. the Conqueror? (Учащиеся отвечают на вопросы по материалам учебника: упр.12, стр.181.)

4. T: Now let’s leave for the XVI century.

(На доске – портреты Ивана IV, Марии Тюдор, Елизаветы I.)

T: Listen to me, children, and then be ready to do a test.

(Рассказывает о путешествии Р. Чанселора, показывает его путь на глобусе.)

“In 1553 Richard Chancellor wanted to go to China across the Arctic Ocean. When he reached Archangel his ship had problems. He left it and went to Moscow to meet Ivan IV. The Russian Tsar was very nice to him. After that Ivan IV and Mary Tudor, the Queen of England, wrote letters to each other. When Mary’s sister Elizabeth was Queen of England she also wrote to the Tsar. The first treaty between England and Russia was in 1734.” [1]

(После аудирования учащиеся получают листы с тестом, затем слушают текст ещё раз и выполняют тест. Приложение.)

5. (На доске – портрет В. Шекспира.)

T: In the XVI century a famous Englishman was born. He was a writer and an actor. He died in 1616. Who was he?

(Учащиеся отгадывают.)

T: This time we’re traveling to the XVII century.

Please, listen to the song and then sing it together. (Звучит песня “London’s Burning!” Затем учащиеся исполняют её вместе.)

T: This song tells us about the Great Fire of London. And here is a part of the text about the Great Fire. Find the things which are wrong, then correct them.

(Учащиеся читают текст упр.18, стр.184 учебника, написанный на дополнительной доске, корректируют его по ходу чтения.)

6. T: Well, kids, our last journey is to the XIX century.

(На доске портреты А. Кристи, А. Конан-Дойля, Ч. Чаплина.)

T: Many famous people were born and lived in the XIX century, for example: Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, Charlie Chaplin. Guess, who of them I’m speaking about:

1) He was born in London in 1889. Later he lived in the USA. He was a film actor. (C. Chaplin)

2) He was born in 1859. He was a writer. He wrote stories about Sherlock Holmes. (Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle)

3) She was born in 1891. She wrote 75 detective stories. She died in 1976. (A. Christie)

T: Well, children, our time is over. We’re going back to the XXI century. We have been traveling just for 40 minutes but we’ve got to know very much about London’s history, haven’t we?
