P2: To visit new places. Etc.
T: Now look at the screen and check if there are any more reasons.
3. Актуализация знаний.

2) Choose a kind of transport
3) Change money;
4) Learn the weather forecast;
5) Discuss your route;
6) Learn customs and traditions.
4. Предъявление нового материала. 1) Просмотровое чтение.
T: Yes, perhaps these are the main things to do before the trip. Shall we help a British tourist to get ready for the journey to Tatarstan? Now you have to look through some texts and decide which of them go with these topics.
Text 1. There are 24 airports in the republic of Tatarstan. Two of these have international status, Kazan and Begishevo, and one, Bugul’ma, has national ( Russian Federation ) status. The following airlines and their planes use Kazan International airport: Tatarstan National Airlines, Tulpar, IDF, Aerostan (all Republic of Tatarstan operators), Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, as well as the airlines of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
Text 2. If you are planning to drive around the republic, you will have to rely on your own car or your friends’ : car hire facilities are not yet widely available in Tatarstan. You should however have no problems with petrol or filling stations but make sure you know where they are located when you are planning your trip.
Hitchhiking is certainly possible and in rural areas they won’t even ask you money for “dropping you off”. Using public transport , however, is much safer and more reliable.
Text 3. The traditional respect shown to the elderly in this part of the world can be seen in the way people always say hello to older people first, whether they are entering a building or, in the villages, even just meeting in the street. It is also customary to Tatarstan residents to give up their seats to the elderly in the public transport.
Text 4.There are Bureaux de Change in all the cities of Tatarstan ( mainly in central areas and in the main banks). In Kazan itself, money can be exchanged at the railway station, at the airport and in a number of shops in the city.
Text 5.The same documents are required for travel to Tatarstan as for any trip to the Russian Federation: a valid passport, a Russian Federation entry visa and if possible, travel and health insurance.
Text 6. The climate is mild continental with moderately cold snowy winters and warm summers. The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is -14*C; the average temperature in July, the warmest summer month, is +19*C. The best time for visiting Tatarstan is the period from May to October, when conditions are ideal for admiring the beauty of the Volga, Kama, Sviyaga and other rivers, enjoying the fragnance of pine- forests, breathing the pure air of grass- lands. This is a convenient time for visiting because in addition to the many overland and air routes, river routs become available. The winter months are a time of stable temperatures, active business and cultural life and popular festivals.
T: Let’s check your understanding. What does Text 1 tell us about?
P1: Text 1 tells about kinds of transport. Etc.
2) Чтение с извлечением информации:
T: Now read the texts more carefully and decide if these statements are true or false:
1. Having a valid passport and an entry visa are necessary for travel in Tatarstan.
2. All kinds of transport are available in winter.
3. You must always say hello to the elderly people first.
4. You must give up your seat to the elderly people in public transport.
5. You should only use public transport to travel across the country.
6. The best time for business in Tatarstan is July.
7. You can change money only in the main banks.
8. There are two international airports in Tatarstan.
5. Говорение. Диалогическая речь.
T: Now I’ll give you some topics with instructions. You’ll choose a place and make a dialogue.
Card 1. You have to change your pounds at Bureau de Change. Ask the clerk:
- if you can exchange pounds here;
- What the exchanging rate is;
- Exchange your money.
- Don’t forget to be polite and thank each other.
Card 2. You are at a tourist office in Kazan. You would like to book an excursion. Ask the tourist office person about the following:
- what the tour includes;
- departure time;
- arrival time;
- main departure point;
- tour price.
6. Игра “Guess the name” с закреплением грамматического материала (описание предметов).
T: You know that dear guests are welcomed with some national food. What is the most popular dish in our country?
P1: It’s chak-chak.
T: You are right, but there are quite a lot of other kinds of national food. Tatar cuisine is rich, varied and very full in calories. You have cards with pictures of different food on your tables. Describe the dishes that you have on your cards, but don’t show the picture to anyone and don’t tell its name. Others should guess what it is.
E.g. P1: A triangle of pastry stuffed with meat, potato and onion.
P2: It’s echpochmak.
P3: A little pie of roast meat with a hole in the middle.(Peremyach)
P4: A large pie stuffed with meat and potato.(Belish)
P5: It is a pie stuffed with rice, eggs, raisins, dried apricots and the obligatory.(Gubadia)
P6: Little balls of pastry fried in oil.(Baursak)
P7: Little balls or strips of pastry containing sweet syrup of honey. (Chak-chak)
7. Аудирование.
T: Now let’s have a rest. Please, sit loose, relax, look at each other and smile. And… remember your childhood. When you were about six or seven years old, your milk teeth fell out. Do you remember where you put your fallen teeth?
P1: I gave it to my granny and she put it in a hole in the house wall.
T: Yes, there is a custom in our country to put milk teeth in holes. But do you know what English children do on such occasions? Listen to the tape and answer this question.
Tape: When I was in the second form my tooth fell out during my English lesson. Our teacher told us that English children put their fallen tooth under the pillow and a fairy would come and leave twenty pence. I did so. I came back to school the following day and complained that the fairy hadn’t come. The teacher asked me: “ Did you tell your parents about the custom?”
P2: English children put their fallen teeth under the pillow and their parents put twenty pence there as if a fairy came.
8. Письмо.
