Ход урока

1. Today we are going to discuss the story “Five on a Treasure Island” by Enid Mary Blyton. This is an exciting story of four children and Tim, the dog their adventures on Kirrin Island with its ruined castle, treasure and mystery. By the way, who can tell some words about the author.

Pupil: The author of the book, Enid Mary Blyton, was born in London in 1897. She began writing poetry in her early teens. She was trained as a kindergarten teacher, later became a journalist specializing in educational and children’s publications. Maybe it was this personal and professional experience that gave her such insight into children’s mind. Enid Blyton wrote a total of over 600 books. That made her one of the most famous and most translated British authors.

2. Thanks for your report. And now let’s revise the names of characters of this story. What are they? Try to pronounce them correctly.

Julian, George, Kirrin, Alf, Quentin, Fanny, Georgina, Timothy.

O`K, now I want you to refresh your memory and tell me some words about Georgina and her parents and describe the episode when they met their guests.(Pupils give short reports about Georgina and her parents.)

Well done, I see, that you remember the main characters. In order to discuss the characters let’s revise the words and phrases.

Now make up guestions and ask them to each other using these words and phrases.

3. Now let’s see how attentive you were while reading the first and the third chapters.

Say “True”, “False”, or “Don’t know”.

  1. Julian, Dick and Anne were the same age.
  2. The children’uncle was a very handsome man.
  3. Georgina’parents called their daughter George because they didn’t like the girl’s real name.
  4. Anne and her brothers loved the idea of going to the bay after breakfast.

  7. George never told the truth.
  8. As a dog Tim was perfect.
  9. George’s father hated when Tim barked.
  10. George’s cousins were selfish children.

4. In order to revise the contents of the story answer the following questions:

  1. What made Anne and her brothers go to Kirrin Island?
  2. Who did the cottage belong to?
  3. What did the children find out about their cousin’s family?
  4. When did the family arrive at Kirrin Island? What did it look like?
  5. What was Georgina like?
  6. What was there at the entrance to the bay?
  7. Did Georgina ever tell lies? Who told the children about that?
  8. What did Anne and her brothers learn about George’s wreck?
  9. Where did George keep her dog? Why couldn’t she keep him at home?
  10. In what way did George pay Alf for keeping her dog?

5. Now, it’s clear, you know the text well. And of course you should remember the talks between the characters. Let’s act out the dialogues between:

  2. About the wreck
  3. About Timothy

6. Now, tell the story from the person of:
