First Certificate STAR”)
  4. Говорение:
  5. Диалог-расспрос (правила оформления делового письма); составление словесной паутины
  6. Диалог-обмен мнениями (сравнение двух писем делового характера); работа в группах, заполнение таблиц сравнения
  7. Проверка понимания правил написания делового письма – запроса информации
  8. Письмо (написание делового письма – работа по группам)
  9. Говорение (анализ писем; обмен мнением)
  10. Домашнее задание.

Slide #3

Dear friends,
I’m very glad to speak to you with the help of video-letter. I’d like to tell you about my life.
First of all, a few words about my studying. Now I’m a student of State University. I study foreign languages and I’m going to be an interpreter. I’m extremely happy. It’s a pity but my first language at University isn’t English, it is German. Anyway I try not to forget English. We study German very hard. We learn the spelling, the pronunciation, the grammar of the German language. First the problem was I mixed the English words with the German ones. But then I’ve overcome these difficulties. As for our teachers they are real pro. Some of them are rather strict, but fair.
As for my hobby I go on singing. Though I have little time for it, I try not to stop singing. I can say that singing is definitely my activity number one during my spare time.
How are you? I hope everything is OK at school. I agree this school year is quite important for you because it is your last year at school and more over you should prepare for your exams.
Let me give you some advice how to be successful at the exams.
First of all you should be positive. Your attitude towards studying should be positive. You have to make the decision to be successful – it’s in your hands.
Secondly if you are interested in a good grade, you will have to do much more than just attend your classes and hand in your homework. You should get into the habit of reading something in English. Why not reading magazines or books?
Another thing you can do to help your memory work efficiently is to take notes while you’re reading.
You could also try listening to songs in English and learning verses by heart. I can definitely say that listening to songs and singing them is not only enjoyable but memorable because of the melody. You can’t but agree with me.
Finally what is more important for learning languages is communication with other people. The best thing to do is to go to another country: to youth camp or teenager’s centre. You can practice your English because English is the dominant language in youth culture.
That’s all for now. I wish you good luck and success.

Best wishes,
Liz.

T:  I think everything is quite clear to you. Do you agree with me? Have you recognized the girl? Of course, you have. Will you tell us a few words about Liz?
Return to slide 2.

Cl: answer the questions.

Reading / Speaking

T: Liza has given some advice to you and her last one was to go to another country to a youth camp. It helps you to improve your English because it is the dominant language in youth culture.
Am I right?
Now you have a chance to visit another country. A very good proposal is given to you in the advertisement at page 23. Let’s read the advertisement.
P1 – read the advertisement.
T: Can you tell me what country you are invited to visit? (The USA, Florida)
How many days can you spend there? (6 days)
What is the age of children? (12– 18)
What kinds of entertainment are offered? (Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, Movie Studios)
What questions may be interesting to you?
Cl: answer the questions using the indirect questions (I want to know which countries they come from. / I’d like to know where Orlando is exactly/ I’m interested in the information if the students speak English / I wonder if the tours to Disney World, Kennedy Space center cost extra/I want to ask what the dates are).
T: What kind of letter should you write?
I suppose you remember the rules of writing a transactional letter, don’t you?

Speaking

T ––> CL

– First of all we mustn’t forget about the salutation.
– Is it formal or informal?
– It must be formal: Dear Sir or Madam,
– What does the 1-st paragraph deal with?
– It deals with the reason of writing. It may be: I am writing in connection with… I am writing because of the advertisement…
– In the 2-nd paragraph you can give information about yourself. Do you agree with me?
– Absolutely. But the personal information should be connected with the advertisement.
– What about the next paragraph?
– The last paragraph must be devoted to asking for information. We should cover all unclear moments.
– Remember that the questions must be polite.
– Don’t forget about the organization of the letter. Pay attention to linking words. What linking words can we use?
– How can you close the letter?
– I look forward to hearing from you.
– And at last you shouldn’t forget about signing off. What phrase should you use? Must it be formal or informal?
– It must be formal, e.g. Yours faithfully,

Discussing

T: OK. Two students Maria and Marcus have already written their letters.

Slide #4

Look at the screen. You can see two letters. Scan them and say whose letter is better (2 minutes).   You should speak about the organization, grammar, style, and spelling.
(Cl: Neither the 1st letter nor the 2 nd one is appropriate. …)

T: Now study these letters more carefully and analyze them in details. Use the table and write down the mistakes (5 min).
T distributes the tables and Cl work in groups.        (MUSIC)
