Задачи урока: контролировать умения и навыки учащихся вести беседу, высказывая свое мнение по теме, прививать школьникам любовь и уважительное отношение к природе.

Оборудование: аудиозапись, фотографии и репродукции картин.

Начало урока:

Good afternoon! Today we talk about one of the most important problems in our life - Environment and Ecology. The pollution of air and world’s ocean is the result of man’s interaction with nature. You know about Chernobyl’s tragedy which happened in 1987.

As a result of the Chernobyl’s tragedy the Belarusian people faced the most horrible ecological disaster. About 18 per cent of the territory of Belarus was contaminated with radioactive substances. Today we have a great increase in cancer and leukemia not only in Belarus but also in other countries of the world.

Not only Chernobyl but many of our “peaceful” factories cause a great damage to ecology.

Teacher: Do you know what does the word “Ecology” mean? (Home). How old is the Earth? (about 4,600 million years old). You know that people all over the world are worried about what is happening to the environment. They understand that the Earth is their common home, a big green home. What problems are there in the environment today, do you think?

Pupil 1: I want to be the first to tell about Traffic pollution. In big cities cars and buses have polluted the air. Many people in cities now have very bad health problems and they suffer from smog.

Pupil 2: I would like to tell about factory pollution. Factories have also polluted the land and the water. As a result, many rivers and lakes are now dead.

Pupil 3: The ozone layer. Around the Earth there is a special type of oxygen called “ozone”. Ozone is important because it stops ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Many aerosol springs and factories destroy ozone and they have made a very big hole in the ozone layer. This means that too much ultraviolet radiation now enters Earth. This is very dangerous because it can cause cancer.

Pupil 4: Fewer trees. All over the world people have cut down millions of trees. As a result many types of animals and plants are now disappearing. Trees are also important because they help to produce oxygen and control the climate.

Teacher: But we hope for the future we can do something now. Listen to the text "Transport for the 21th century" and answer the question: What do European countries use in order to make electricity?

Pupil 1: A farmer in England used chicken manure to power his car. The car worked, but the smell was terrible!

Pupil 2: In many countries there are electric cars. They work well but they are slow and cannot run for very long.

Pupil 3: The train in Japan uses magnets. It is very quiet, very fast and very clean. Unfortunately, it is too expensive to use a lot.

Pupil 4. The water train in Wales uses water to push a train down the hill and, at the same time, pull another train up the hill.

Teacher: As you can see people are trying to use different ways to save the nature. Have you got any ideas to make electricity from rubbish or any transport for the future?

Teacher: Make some notes and compare your ideas with other students. work in pairs and write about what you think will happen if we don’t have enough water in the future? If the air is not good outside? If we don’t have any coal, gas or oil?

Teacher: We've already spoken about ecology and the importance of keeping the environment clean. Pollution is getting worse and worse. But there is always hope.

Pupil 1: I think the idea of starting up to clean up the city is great.

Pupil 2: We could design posters telling people about ecological problems.

  • Do not pick wild flowers.
  • Do not litter the ground with cans, paper and bottles.
  • Do not harm plants.
  • Feed birds and help them/
  • Plant trees and flowers.
  • Recycle used materials such as metal, bottles and paper.
  • Clean rivers and lakes.

Подведение итогов урока

Teacher: I’m sure that you are real friends of our planet. We all must do what we can do to keep the water, the land and the air clean.
