Ход урока.
I. (2 min.)
- T: I’m glad to greet you, dear boys and girls, our guests, all the participants of our meeting. Today we’ll travel from Russia to Australia. Welcome to Australia.
- I promise our trip will be interesting. The aim of our meeting is to get acquainted with the sightseeings of Melbourne and to learn more about this city.
- You’ve read much about Australia and I want you to use your knowledge in practice because Knowledge is Power. Have you ever been to Australia? We’re going to have some fun and we’ll do some role play.
Be attentive, think, make notes and at the end of the lesson you’ll make a conclusion about your trip. You’ll get cards of different colours for your work at the lesson. Success attend you!
T: Let me introduce to you, Russian students, who came to Melbourne on a trip during their holidays and Australian students, Vadim and Alina, who will help you.

Melbourne is a very multi-cultural city. Over a quarrel of the population was born overseas. It is home to many cultural groups, speaking 170 languages and giving Melbourne a unique character. Melbourne has one of the largest Greek and Italian populations in the world.
Melbourne is the acknowledged Culture capital of Australia, with world-class music, dance, opera, comedy and theatre.
The architecture in Melbourne has been carefully planned. When designing buildings, architects in Melbourne think hard about scenery and the surroundings of the building-site.
The National Gallery of Victoria, established in 1861, is the state Art gallery. The Gallery presents exhibitions of historical and contemporary art from within Australia and overseas. This place is worth visiting.

P1: You’ve got some pictures of sightseeings. Look at the pictures, in groups, guess, name and describe them.

P1: And now lets’ talk about school life in Melbourne.
The Russian pupils talk about school life in Melbourne with Tom in pairs. (2 pairs)
One pupil begins smoking.
P1: Don’t smoke. Smoking is unhealthy. Any form of addiction in our country is unhealthy, whether it is tobacco, drugs, alcohol. Smoking is forbidden for teenagers in Australia. Do you know that every year 3 million people die of smoking?
P2: Do you know that only 15 % of the population smoke in Australia, but in Russia – more than 76 %?
P1: 400 000 people die in Russia every year as a result of smoking.
P2: Imagine that a whole city like Ufa disappears every year. Good health is above wealth.

You want to know more about Melbourne, teenagers, their problems, music. You want to go to the disco, to listen to music. You’ll have a pleasant stay in Melbourne.
