Ход урока.Last lesson we finished the discussion of the topic “My working day”. Today we start to work with a new topic “My day off”. We’ll get to know some new words and learn how to use them in our speech. We’ll work with the text on our topic to improve our skills in reading and translation.
But first of all let’s speak a little.
- What does the word “day off” mean?
- How many days off do you have?
- How do you usually spend your days off?
- With whom do you like to spend your days off?
Now look at the blackboard. There is a saying for you. I offer to start our work from the analysis of it. Share your opinions and experiences with one another. “If you lose time once you can never find it again”.
Now listen to the dialogue and say
1. Where is Paul going to spend Sunday?
2. What does Aunt Flora decide to do?
Aunt Flora Desides to Go with Paul.
Aunt Flora: What are you going to do on Sunday, dear?
Paul: I’m going to see Kate. We’re planning to go to St. James’s Park.
Aunt Flora: Are you going to hire a boat again?
Paul: Yes, we are.
Aunt Flora: That’s very foolish of you. It’s easy to fall into the water.
Paul: That’s very unlikely. Besides, the lake isn’t very deep. In fact it’s shallow.
Aunt Flora: It is deep.
Paul: But we are always very careful.
Aunt Flora: I’m going to join you.
Paul: Are you really? What for?
Aunt Flora: To see that you’re careful.
Paul: That’s very kind of you, Aunt Flora, but…
Aunt Flora: That’s all right, dear.
Now let’s make up scheme. You can see a number of cards on the table before me. Choose the most suitable to develop the following idea.
(На карточках может быть написано следующее have good mood, receive guests, be not lazy, go to the skating – rink, drink a lot of alcohol и т.д.).
To sum up, imagine you had such a day off last Sunday. Share your impressions and emotions with your friend using the scheme.
Now, please, work with the text. Do the following tasks:
- Read the text, try to understand it and make up a list of words which will be necessary for the discussion of the topic.
- Find three facts from the text which are exactly the same in spending of your days off, three, which are similar, and three, which are completely different. Complete the table below.
- Make a list of places where you can entertain yourself on your days off in our town.
- Summarize all the information to speak about your last day off.

Most people in our country work five days a week but students and pupils work six days. They have only one day off. It is Sunday.
I like this day very much. You needn't hurry anywhere and you may go wherever you like after your week's work. On this day I wake up later than usual. But sometimes I don't get up till nine or ten o'clock. I read morning newspapers or listen to music.
As soon as I get up I air the room, make my bed and do morning exercises. Then I have breakfast, clear away the dishes and wash up. Two more hours for getting ready with my homework, and I am free.
I meet my friends and we discuss our plans together. We may go to the cinema or theatre, to museums and parks. Last Sunday we went to the Botanical Garden. There were many beds of spring flowers there: red, yellow and blue. People in light clothes were walking along the paths. The air was fresh and clean. It was very pleasant to spend time there.
In fine weather we also like to be out of town. We find a nice place somewhere in the forest or on the bank of the river. We lie in the sun, play different games and swim. In winter my friends and I often go to the skating-rink. Skating is my favourite kind of sport, but I like to ski too.
When the weather is bad my friends come to my place. We listen to music or go to the cinema. We like films about the life of the youth abroad. On the way home we usually discuss the films we've seen.
In the evening all the members of our family get together. We have our supper, make plans for tomorrow, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. Sometimes we receive guests at our place or go for a walk. I enjoy my days off very much.
Thank you for today’s lesson very much. All of you were very good and serious. I enjoy our Lesson very much.
