Ход урока

Leader: Good morning, boys and girls. I am glad to see you. First of all let me introduce myself. My name is …

I came from England, namely from London. As a matter of fact I’ve come to Russia to learn more about Russian culture. I’ve read and heard a lot about Russia, but I know nothing about the Far East and Blagoveshchensk. The fact is I came here by plane and I don’t know even where the Far East lies? Can anybody tell me where does the Far East lie?

Pupil: Our region lies in the eastern part of our country. People call the part of our Motherland which is in the East of it – the Far East.

Leader: Well, it’s very interesting for me. And while I was in the airplane I looked out of the illuminator and came to the conclusion that the territory of the Amur Region is very large. Am I right?

Pupil: Yes, you are right. The territory of Amur Region is very large. It is 363 thousand square kilometers. Italy, Belgium and Netherlands can be placed together on this territory.

Leader: Oh, how large the Amur Region is! And what about the climate in your region? You know that the climate in Great Britain is very wet and it is often foggy in London. But what about the climate in your native place? I’ve heard it’s very cold.

Pupil: The climate abundantly provide us with moisture, heat and light, but all comes in a different ways. So, Blagoveshchensk, which is located at a latitude of Karaganda, Kharkov and Prague, differs by many natural peculiarities. First of all by a climate, which is related to a sharp-continental with monsoon features, and is specified by interaction of atmospheric circulation centers, which are formed over Asia, Pacific Ocean and Arctic Ocean.

The city is located in the Eastern rim of Eurasia and is under a primary influence of anticyclones - in winter time, and cyclones - in summer time. Monsoon features of climate are displayed in non-uniform distribution of precipitation.

Winter in Blagoveshchensk usually lasts for 150 days. The coldest month is January with daily average temperature of -24,3C °.

Leader: Well I see your winter is very cold, but you got used to it.

Many people think that the weather is cold and wet in Britain all the year round. But it isn t! True, it sometimes rains and even snows for days and days, but every year there are weeks of beautiful sunny weather then the British take off their sweaters and go out to sunbathe. And what about summer in your region?

Pupil: Summer comes in the middle of May and lasts for about 144 days. The main amount of precipitation come for this time. The warmest month is July, with daily average temperature of
+ 29,4C °. Heavy summer rains and rather warm summer mellows severity of the winter, and autumn colors and solar quiet weather supplement positive features to a severe nature of this area.

Abundant precipitation, high temperatures, significant relative humidity are parameters of humid tropical weather. In Russia the humid tropical weather is in Sochi, in former USSR countries: Yalta, Sukhumi, Batumi, and in the Far East - in Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk.

Leader: Well, you have perfectly done your task. But now let’s have a talk about the culture. You know that London has many beautiful ancient buildings and monuments: Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, St’ Paul’s Cathedral. And what about Blagoveshchensk?

Pupil: Our town has also many places of interest. The Museum, the art Gallery, several monuments, parks. We are proud of ancient buildings which are really very beautiful. They say there were about 30 churches in our town, but they were all destroyed. Two churches left are both the real places of interest. The whole summer long the town is green, because there are a lot of trees, several parks and green spaces.

Leader: So, I see there are a lot of students in your town. I know that your town is situated on the crossing of 2 great rivers: the Amur and the Zeya. And London is situated on the river Thanes. We have a very beautiful embankment and I like to walk along it. And what about your embankment?

Pupil: The inhabitants and the guests of our town are fond of the embankment of the Amur. In the evening you can see many people walking along the embankment of the Amur and especially in the center of the town.

Blagoveshchensk is located at a merge of two largest Far Eastern rivers: Amur and Zeya. River valleys, where the city is located, are formed by river terraces, high and low land, which influence the profile of streets and squares, affects residential quarters outlook. The streets of a central part of the city are stretched along Amur river from West to East. Other direction of streets is determined by Zeya river bed.

The city was defenseless before the acts of God and frequently was flooded. Water covered its streets, demolishing trees, gardens, facilities, for a long time leaving the destructive traces. Today the city is reliably protected from floods by a concrete barrier at the quay of Amur river, and with a dam of Zeya hydroelectric station, located 500 kilometers up North from Blagoveshchensk.
