Урок-игра по английскому языку в 5-м классе по теме: "Добро пожаловать в Клуб друзей!"

Данный урок это опыт интегрирования страноведческого материала с содержанием языкового материала на базе УМК “Friends-2” (автор Карол Скиннер, изд-во “Лонгман”). В учебнике Friends-2 представлены 4 урока под рубрикой “Culture Corner”. Эти уроки знакомят учащихся с интересными аспектами из жизни США, Канады, Австралии и Новой Зеландии. Для того, чтобы эти уроки органично вошли в основной курс изучения английского языка в 5 классе, мною был разработан урок-игра по теме “Добро пожаловать в “Клуб друзей”. Так как одной из важных задач изучения иностранных языков является формирование социокультурных знаний и умений, способности учащихся к участию в межкультурной коммуникации, приобщение к культуре, традициям и реалиям страны изучаемого языка, считаю, что такая форма урока наиболее интересна и эффективна для младших школьников. Презентация, сделанная с применением ИКТ, несомненно делает урок зрелищным, красочным и привлекательным.

В уроке задействованы два забавных героя – детективы Ширли Холмс и Джордж Клулесс, члены “Клуба друзей” – ребята со всех уголков мира, язык общения которых – английский. (“Crazy Detectives” и “Friends’ Club” –это рубрики учебника и их персонажи)

Цель урока: совершенствование навыков устной речи по теме.

Задачи урока:

1. Обобщить лингвострановедческий материал по теме.
2. Углубить и расширить знания по теме.
3. Развивать навыки чтения, аудирования с целью извлечения информации.
4. Развивать и совершенствовать речевые навыки: умение слушать, реагировать, проявлять языковую догадку, высказывать мнение.

Оборудование: мультимедийный комплекс, подборка иллюстративного материала.

На уроке представлена презентация, подотовленная учителем по теме: “Добро пожаловать в Австралию!”, видеоролик из электронной энциклопедии “World Book”.

В ходе урока используются текст для чтения , вопросы для викторины по теме “Канада”.

План урока

1. Вступительное слово учителя, введение в тему.
2. Инсценированные диалоги героев рубрики “Crazy Detectives”
3. Разыгрывание ситуаций в “Клубе друзей”, монологические высказывания учащихся по теме “Хобби”.
4. Викторина по теме “Канада”.
5. Презентация учителя по теме “Добро пожаловать в Австралию!”, комментирование.
6. Чтение и аудирование текста учебника, выполнение заданий.
7. Подведение итогов, домашнее задание,

Ход урока

1. Teacher: Good morning, everybody! We’re in a Friends’ Club. All of us are members of this club. Children from all over the world send messages and letters to the club. They want to know more about each other and the places they live. What language do they use to communicate? ( students’ answer – English). Yes, English is the language of international communication. And you can speak English too, and you know rather a lot about countries in the world where English is spoken as the first language. Today we’ll remember what we know and learn more about other countries. But first I want you to remind you how everything started. Let me introduce our new members, you know them very well: Shirley Holmes and George Clueless. Let’s watch and listen what they are talking about.
2. Holmes and Clueless разыгрывают диалог о хобби, урок 22, стр.66 (этот диалог дополняется следующим текстом)

Clueless: I don’t know, Holmes.

Holmes: I know. Let’s ask children from Friends’ Club. I hope they’ll help you to.choose a hobby.

Clueless: A great idea! (addressing to children) Dear friends! Can you tell me what hobby you have? (Клулесс и Холмс внимательно слушают рассказы об увлечениях членов клуба и высказывают свое мнение после каждого ответа)

Holmes: Clueless! Have you decided what hobby to take up?

Clueless: (thinking over) I’m not interested in sports, I’m not fond of drawing. Oh! (exclaiming) Oh, I know. I want to take up traveling to other countries as a hobby.

Holmes: But, Clueless, traveling is a very expensive hobby.

Clueless: I’ve got an idea! I’ll try to win a holiday. Let’s go to a “Know Your Friend Show”, Holmes.

Teacher: So, our two crazy detectives are at the show. Let's see what happened there.(Клулесс и Холмс разыгрывают диалог из урока 18, стр. 54. (диалог дополняется следующим текстом):

Bruce: You’ve won a holiday for two in the USA!

Clueless and Holmes: WOW!

Holmes: I’ve never been to the USA!

Clueless: Me too.

Teacher: My congratulations, Holmes and Clueless! But what do you know about this country?

Clueless: I know that it is far away in North America.

Holmes: And I know that Columbus discovered it in the 15^th century.

Teacher: Would you like to know more?

Clueless and Holmes: (together) Yes!

(Клулесс и Холмс приветствуют членов клуба и задают им вопросы, слушают ответы и делают записи)

Clueless: I’d like to know why the continent is called America.

Holmes: The native population of the USA are Indians, but they do not live in India. Why so?

Clueless: (looking at the map) There are so many English cities in the USA: Plymouth, Cambridge, Oxford, Lincoln. Who can explain it to me?

Clueless and Holmes: Thank you, friends!

Teacher: Clueless and Holmes! You must remember one more thing: people in the USA speak American English.

Clueless and Holmes: Really? But Pilgrims took their language to America!

Teacher: Listen to members of Friends’ Club. They’ll tell you about differences and similarities between English English and American English.(учащиеся- члены клуба используют в ответах информацию о США из текстов раздела” Culture Corner”, стр.26)

В дополнение к теме о сходствах и различиях британского и американского варианта английского языка учащиеся заранее подготовили карточки- иллюстрации слов, например: BR. - cinema, Am. – movie и т.д.

You are ready for your traveling. Have a nice journey!

3. На этом этапе урока проводится викторина “Что ты знаешь о Канаде?”( материал для викторины подготовлен на основе текстов из раздела “Culture Corner”, стр. 50) Победа в викторине дает право членам клуба отправится в Австралию. Для участия в викторине учащиеся делятся на две команды. Учителем подготовлены вопросы, каждый вопрос находится в конверте, который участники выбирают по очередности.

Teacher: Again we’re at a Friends’ Club. Children, you know much about the USA now. But we traveled to Canada too, another English-speaking country. Do you remember? If you want to go on traveling and visit one more place where English is spoken as the first language, you should win a prize. For this I suggest doing a quiz.(для викторины предлагаются следующие вопросы):

4. Перед презентацией учитель выясняет, что учащимся известно об Австралии, по окончании презентации учащиеся должны ответить на вопрос о том, что им запомнилось больше всего и произвело впечатление (What impressed you most of all in Australia?) На доске выписаны некоторые имена собственные и названия животных с транскрипцией. Сопровождающий текст – комментарий к презентации прилагается.
5. Учащиеся слушают и читают текст учебника стр. 98 и выполняют задание к тексту.
6. В конце урока подводятся итоги и выставляются оценки. В качестве домашнего задания предлагается подготовить рассказ по наиболее понравившемуся параграфу текста об Австралии и по возможности дополнить сведениями, о которых узнали на уроке.

В заключении хочется отметить, что подобные уроки вызывают большой интерес у учащихся, способствуют мотивации изучения иностранного языка, расширяют их общий кругозор, учат пониманию иноязычной культуры, и вместе с тем помогают лучшему осознанию своей собственной культуры, воспитанию человека культуры, готового осуществлять межличностное и межкультурное общение, в том числе средствами иностранного языка.

Приложение: текст-комментарий к презентации “Добро пожаловать в Австралию!”

1. Title. Welcome to Australia.
2. (a map) Australia is the largest island and the smallest continent. People call Australia “down under” world because it lies in the Southern Hemisphere. When we have winter the Australians have summer. The hottest month is January and the coldest month is July. But in general the climate isn’t cold in Australia and you needn’t warm coats there like we have to wear warm clothes half of the year.
3. The capital of Australia is Canberra. It isn’t a big city.
4. The most part of Australia has a dry and hot climate. There are many deserts and grasslands where few people live.
5. (a map of population) As you can see on the map a lot of people live in big towns along the ocean coast. Australia is a big island, it is surrounded by water, Australia has a warm and sunny climate. That’s why water sports are very popular there.
6. Sailing, swimming, windserfing.
7. The native people in Australia were Aborigines. Some people think that they were the first people in the world! The Aborigines traveled around the Australian continent to find food and water and they hunted with boomerangs.
8. (boomerang). Most boomerangs were made of wood. There are returning and non-returning boomerangs. Non-returning boomerangs were used by Aborigines for hunting and fighting. Returning boomerangs are thrown mainly for sport.
9. (immigrants) The first British people went to Australia about three hundred years ago. Later other British people followed them. English is the official language of all Australians, but they speak it with an Australian accent.
10. There is a lot to see and to do in Australia. Australia is very popular with the tourists.
11. (Sydney) The largest city is Sydney. Sydney Opera House is very unusual, it attracts people’s attention. Symphony concerts, ballets and theatre shows are set there.
12. Ayers Rock or Uluru (as Aborigines called it) is a popular tourist attraction, it’s a holy place for Aborigines and one of the wonders of the world.
13. Another tourist attraction is Great Barrier Reef with its amazing underwater life. Great Barrier Reef is the largest group of coral reefs in the world. It’s famous for its beauty. The water around the Reef is warm all the year round, so the beauty of the Reefs attracts divers and swimmers.
14. (A film) Now let’s watch a short video film. (A task: What sea animals you know are shown in the film?)
15. (koala) A lot of interesting animals live in Australia. Nowhere in the world lives such an unusual animal as koala. Koala looks like a teddy bear. It’s sometimes called a koala bear. Koalas have soft thick fur, a large hairless nose, round ears and no tail. The fur is grey or brown on the animal’s back and white on the belly. They eat the leaves of eucalyptus tree.
16. (kangaroo) Kangaroo hops on its hind legs which they move together. A baby kangaroo is inside her mother’s pouch, it spends the first several months there.
17. Cassawary is a large bird that lives in the thick forests of Australia. They cannot fly. They have a massive body, long legs and brightly coloured neck and head. A bony helmet covers the bird’s head.
18. The platypus has got a long hairy body. It’s got four big flat feet and a flat tail. Its mouth is very strange. It’s got a duck’s mouth. They live along streams in Australia. People killed them for fur, Now the killing of platypus is forbidden.
