P4: Stradford-on-Avon? Oh! It’s Shakespeare’s birthplace, isn’t it?

P1: Yes, it is. You are right. Ask them about it your selves, will you?

P4: With pleasure.

P5: Do they study Russian?

P1: Yes, they do. But you’d better speak English with them.

P5: All right.

P6: How many boys and girls are there in the group?

P1: There are 4 girls and 3 boys. Have you got any questions?

Everybody: No, we haven’t. Let’s begin our meeting.

  7. This is Cecily Corn, a talented young girl, she plays the piano very well. She is a very talkative person, that’s why I she has many friends. Thank you!

Part III

E: First of all I’d like to tell you that we are proud of our country and famous people. We are fond of English poetry and music, of course. John Brown is from London.

He’ll tell us about London and places he likes to visit ( a story about London).

Franklin Milton is interested in the Royal’s family life. Frank, please, speak about the Queen Elizabeth the Second and the members of her family.

F: I’ll do it with pleasure. At present the British Royal family is headed by the Queen Elizabeth the Second. She came to the throne after her father’s death in 1952 and was crowned in Westminster Abbey in June 1953. Among queen Elizabeth’s many duties are regular visits she makes to foreign countries. And especially those of the Commonwealth, whose interests and welfare are very important to her.

The Queen has done much to signify the formalities of the monarchy, including allowing the BBC to make a documentary film about the every day of the royal family. We also started the tradition of the “ walkabout” when she walks among the public crowds and stops to talk to some people.

The Queen’s husband is Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He served in the Royal Navy.

The Queen’s son is Charles, Prince of Wales, now married Camilla Parker Bowles after

Lady Diana’s death. People pay much attention to their life and Queen’s grandsons. The

Queen’s other children are Princess Ann, Prince, Andrew and Prince Edward. Princess

Ann is widely known for her interests in horses. She was once the champion of Europe in horse races.

She is now Chancellor of the University of London. Prince Edward served as a helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy. He and his wife have two children ( daughters).

Prince Edward is keen on the theatre. Now he is having carrier with a theatrical company.

P1: Oh! Thank you for your wonderful story!

E: Gloria Grant is from Stradford-on-Avon. She’ll tell us about some facts from Shakespeare’s life.

G: Stradford-on-Avon is a small town in the centre of England. It is situated on the banks of the river Avon.

Today we can see Shakespeare’s house with a collection of books, pictures, connected with the life and works of the poet, the school where Shakespeare learned.

The Shakespeare’s Memorial Theatre is situated there. Now it is one of the most popular theatres in the world. It stages only Shakespeare’s plays.

On the places of interests in Stradford is Shakespeare’s statue. It is surrounded by the statues of the main character’s of his works.

Every year the Shakespeare’s Festival takes place in Stradford. On the 23-d of April they have a birthday ceremony.

Let me recite some sonnets which can be heard there.

Sonnet №90

Then hate me when thou wilt; if ever, now,
Now, while the world is bent my deeds to cross,
Join with the spite of Fortune, make me bow,
And do not drop in for an after-loss.
Ah, do not, when my heart hath 'scaped this sorrow.
Come in the rearward of a conquered woe;
Give not a windy night a rainy morrow,
To linger out a purposed overthrow.
If thou wilt leave me, do not leave me last,
When other petty griefs have done their spite,
But in the onset come: so shall I taste
At first the very worst of Fortune's might;
And other strains of woe, which now seem woe,
Compared with loss of thee will not seem so.

Sonnet № 91

Some glory in their birth, some in their skill,
Some in their wealth, some in their bodies' force;
Some in their garments, though new-fangled ill;
Some in their hawks and hounds, some in their horse;
And every humour hath his adjunct pleasure
Wherein it finds a joy above the rest.
But these particulars are not my measure;
All these I better in one general best,
Thy love is better than high birth to me,
Richer than wealth, prouder than garments' cost,
Of more delight than hawks or horses be;
And having thee, of all men's pride I boast:
Wretched in this alone, that thou mayst take
All this away, and me most wretched make.

Sonnet №130

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks:
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

E: The people living in Gr. Britain are very fond of music. Rock and pop- music are popular among young people. “The Beatles” became the most successful pop- group in the 60-s and 70-s.

Michel Denton will tell us about “the Beatles”.

M: The story of the Beatles rises from the back- street of the Liverpool. Four working – class boys organized their group in 1959. They were just one of a dozen bands that played in clubs and got only 5 shillings each for it. Soon they were invited to Hamburg where they recorded their song. Later they signed their first recording contract in London and their first record was a success. In year their songs became hits they went on tours of Gr. Britain, sand before the queen, they took part in TV shows and films. The Beatles became “the most famous men in the world” as the press wrote. To young people they ment a life- style, dress, humour and hair. The names of John, Paul, George and Ringo were on the lips of grannies, kings and kids all over the world.

Their every art and word were under the public microscope. Critics have been looking for the explanation of the phenomenon. Why? It’s impossible to give a definite answer. May be they were the public thanks to there sincere personalities, wit and charm. John was a thinker, Paul the romantic. George was a mystic and Ringo the clown. Something for everyone. May be thanks to their songwriting ability. Listening to them today one is struck by their high standard. Their songs are tuneful, original and highly individual.

May be thanks to their vocal abilities. Their singing is so harmonious that you enjoy every minute of it. Their music reflected their time and the problems of the young. The most popular songs by Beatles are “Yesterday”, “ Let it be”, “ Strawberry Fields”, “ Forever” all you need is love Imagine. And now we’ll listen to “Yesterday” (a song).

E: Cecily Corn and Mary Morris are from Scotland. They are fond of Robert Burns’s poetry.

I am from Scotland, from Highlands (the most beautiful part of our country).

The Scottish Highlands are among oldest mountains the world.

My heart’s in the Highlands
My heart is not here
My heart’s in the Highlands
A chasing the deer.

The poem is known to all Scottish people. It was written by Robert Burns. Every year, on the 25-th of January, his birthday is celebrated in cities, towns and villages with Burn’s supper.

It begins with a traditional toast: “ To the immortal memory of Robert Burns”. Then those present must make speeches. Everyone is allowed to make a speech and read a poem by R. Burns.

My heart in the Highlands
My heart is not here
My heart’s in the Highlands
A chasing the deer.

A chasing the wild deer and following the roe
My heart in the Highlands wherever I go
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell of worth.
Wherever I wonder, wherever I rove
The hills of the Highlands forever I love.
Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow.
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
