IV. OK. Let’s go on speaking about London. If you have a chance to visit London what would you like to see or to visit there?
Pupil 1: Reading is my hobby that is why I would visit the British Museum. The British Museum has one of the largest libraries in the world. There are more than six million books in the library. We can see beautifully illustrated old manuscripts which they keep in glass cases. In the reading room of the British Museum many famous men read and studied. Charles Dickens, a very popular English writer and author of “David Copperfield”, “Oliver Twist” and other books, spent a lot of time in the British Museum library. At present the library has modern electronic .equipment, so the reader does not have to wait long to receive the material he needs.
Pupil 2: As for me I would like to visit Westminster Abbey. Westminster Abbey is a historic building. It is a royal church. Here we can see the tombs of many British kings and queens and other famous people, and the beauty Henry VII Chapel. The Abbey was founded in the 11th century. Many of Great Britain’s famous men are buried in Westminster Abbey.
V. Teacher: I hope you know that Britain is famous for its writers and poets. Can you name any British poets and writers? Your task is “Guess who it was!” You should put the passages of the story in the right order, read them aloud and tell what British writer this story is about.

VI. eacher: You have prepared your favourite poems by some British poets both in English and in Russian. Let’s listen to them.
Pupil 1: W. Shakespeare.
Sonnet 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove,
O no, it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempest, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error, and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
Pupil 2: George Byron.
My Soul Is Dark
My soul is dark – Oh! Quickly string
The harp I yet can brook to hear;
And let the gentle fingers fling
Its melting murmurs o’ er mine year.
If in this heart a hope be dear,
That sound shall charm it forth again:
If in these eyes there lurk a tear,
Twill flow, and cease to burn my brain.
VII.
