P1. To-day we have an integrated lesson of music and the English language. It is devoted to the important role of music in people’s life and to the English and American songs. There is a task to solve: to improve our pronounciation and musical abilities while singing English and American songs.

II. Основная часть урока. Беседа учителя музыки с классом о значении музыки в жизни человека.

T. What is music?

P2. It is a great power, and it can make us cry or laugh, love or feel sorrow

T. Why can music do it ?

P3. Music can do it because there is some invisible energy in the music

T. You are right. Now let’s sing the song “We wish you a Merry Christmas”

(Pupils sing the song)

После исполнения первой песни учитель продолжает беседу с классом

T. Let’s remember. What makes music a powerful phenomenon?

P4. The power of music is in its rhythm, in the sound and in the melody, and, of course, in the plot of it.

T. Now, try to prove it to our guests. Sing the song “When Tress Are Green”

(Pupils sing the song)

После исполнения второй песни продолжается беседа учителя с классом.

T. I would like to hear your answers to my next question; how can we express joy or sorrow, happiness or sadness in the music?

P5. In the musical charter there are two tunes: minor key and major key. Joy and happiness are expressed by major key. Sorrow and sadness are expressed by minor key.

T. So, listen to two songs and tell which of them is performed in the minor key and which one – in the major key?

Pupils sing the songs; “Santa Lucia” and “Jingle Bells”

После исполнения третьей и четвертой песен:

P6. The song “Santa Lucia” is sung in the minor key, and the song “Jingle Bells” is sung in the major key.

T. Humour is nice. The people’s life who do not understand humour is more difficult. We are sure that music can express all sides of our life. The question is; how can music show humour?

P7. There are two concepts in music: staccato and legato.

P8 Humour can be expressed by staccato.

T. What is staccato?

P9. Staccato is the interrupted sound of music.

T. And what is legato?

P10. Legato is the smooth sound of tunes.

T. The following songs will display staccato and legato.

Pupils sing two songs; “Yankee Doodle” and “Yesterday”

Учащиеся исполняют пятую и шестую песни в сттакато и в легато

III. Заключительная часть урока. Беседа учителя английского языка о роли песни в совершенствовании знаний, умений и навыков учащихся в устной речи на английском языке.

E.T. When you sing, you improve your aural abilities and comprehend your English speech. Besides, each song can serve as a discussion material.

P11. I think English songs allow is to relax from the pressure of conversation.

P12. And I guess, group spirit is fostered through singing.

P13. As for me, I can carry the song beyond the classroom doors and sing for my family and for my friends.

P14. Thus, songs tend to reinforce the students interest in learning English.

IV. Подведение итогов урока.

Итоги урока подводят: учитель музыки и учитель английского языка.

V. В заключении учащиеся поют две песни (седьмую и восьмую). Песни лирические: “My Bonnie” и “Auld Lang Syne”.

1. We wish you a Merry Christmas

We which you a merry Christmas,
We which you a merry Christmas,
We which you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

2. When Trees are Green

When trees are green and forests are green,
And grass is green and long,
It’s good to walk in the forest
And listen to little birds’ song.

When trees are white and forests are white,
Because they are covered with show,
It’s good to be out-of-doors and play,
Oh, I love it so!

3. Santa Lucia

Moonlight so sweet and pale
From heaven fallen.
That murmur love tale
To us are calling
White is the summer night, summer sea silver bright
Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia.

Oh joy, to lie and rest
Drifting and dreaming.
On ocean peaceful breast
May moonlight gleaming.
Take the white boat for me,
Take all the way with me.
Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia.

4. Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh,
Down the hill we go Laughing all the way.
Bells on bob tail ring
Making spirits bright.
What fun it is to ride and sing а sleighing song to-night.

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
On what fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song to-night, oh!
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
What fun it is to ride and sing
sleighing song to-night, hey!

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side.
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot,
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upset.

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, oh!
Jingle bells, Jingle bells,
Jingle all the way
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing to-night, hey!

5. Yankee Doodle

Father and I went down to camp
Along with Captain Gooding;
There we saw the men and boys
As thick as hasty pudding

Chores;Yankee Doodle, keep it up,
Yankee Doodle, dandy!
Mind the music and the step
And with girls be handy!

There we saw a thousand men
As rich as Squire David;
What they wasted every day,
I wish it could be saved.
There was Captain Washington
Upon a slapping stallion,
Giving orders to his men –
I guess there was a million.

Then the feathers on his hat
They looked so very fine oh!
I wanted desperately, to get
To give to my Jemima.

Yankee Doodle went to town,
A – riding on a pony.
He stuck a feather in his cap
And called it macaroni.

6. Yesterday

(John Lennon and Paul McCartney)

Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so faraway,
Now it looks as though there’re here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday.
Suddenly

I’m not half the man I used to be.
There’s a shadow hanging over me.
O yesterday – came suddenly.

Why she had to go,
I doin’t know,
She wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong
Now I long
For yesterday.

Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go.
I don’t know,
She wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong
Now I long
For yesterday.

7. My bonnie

My bonnie is over the ocean,
My bonnie is over the sea,
My bonnie is over the ocean,
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me.

Bring back, bring to me.
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me.

Last night as I lay on my pillow
Last night as I lay in my bed,
Last night as I lay on my pillow
I dreamed that my Bonnie was dead.

Oh blow, ye, winds over the ocean.
Oh blow, ye, winds over sea
Oh blow, ye, winds over the ocean,
And bring back my Bonnie to me.

The winds had blown over the ocean,
The winds had blown over the sea,
The winds had blown over the ocean,
And brought back my Bonnie tome.

Brought back brought back,
And brought back my Bonnie to me.

8. Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot?
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot?
And days of auld Lang syne?

For auld Lang syne, my dear,
For auld Lang syne.
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
For auld Lang syne.

And here’s a hand, my trusty friend
And give a hand of thine,
And we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
For auld Lang syne.
