Ход урока
1. Приветствие.
Teacher: Good afternoon, children.
Pupils: Good afternoon.
Teacher: Sit down, please. I`m very glad to see you. How are you? Feeling friendly? Today we are going to have an interesting time together. The theme of today`s lesson is “The Way We Look”. Today we are going to talk about you and about your friends. You`ll describe the appearance and the characters. We`ll discuss who is friendly and honest and who is selfish. And you`ll tell us what you like to wear and why? You`ll work in pairs, act out your dialogues, play a game and present your project. Now look at the blackboard, please. You can see the word web. It`ll help us during the lesson. You can use it.
2. Teacher: So, let`s begin. When we speak about somebody`s figure, face, hands, feet we mean his or her appearance. When we speak about somebody`s appearance we describe it. Today we`ll describe the appearance. But first of all let`s revise everything about it.
Answer the following questions:
1.What can you tell about the figures of different people?
Pupil 1: People`s bodies can be slim or stout.
Pupil 2: A person may be tall, middle-sized or short.
Teacher: What does it mean when we say “She is middle-sized?”
Pupil 3: It means she is not very tall and not very short.
Teacher: Who is the tallest boy in your class?
Pupil 3: Vitya is the tallest boy in our class.
Teacher: Who is the shortest girl in your class?
Pupil 3: Dasha is the shortest girl in our class.
Teacher: Are you tall enough for your age?
Pupil 3: I think, I`m tall enough for my age.
Teacher: What else can you add?
Pupil 4: A person may be thin or thick or plump.
Teacher: Is it better to be plump or thin?
Pupil 5: I think, it is better to be thin.
Teacher: Are you thin or plump?
Pupil 5: To my mind, I`m thin.
Teacher: What can you tell us about the faces of different people?
Pupil 6: People`s faces can be round

Teacher: What do you know about people`s hair?
Pupil 7: People`s hair can be curly

It`s colour may be black or fair, chestnut or red.
Teacher: Say some words about people`s noses.
Pupil 8: People`s noses may be long or short,
straight or crooked,
aquiline or snub (turned up).
Teacher: Tell about people`s eyes.
Pupil 9: Eyes may be large or small. They may be of different colour: grey, green, blue, black or hazel (brown).
Teacher: What colour are your eyes?
What colour of eyes do you like best?
Pupil: My eyes are black. But best of all I like dark blue eyes.
3. Teacher: Thank you. Your answers are perfect. We go on. Now work in pairs. Describe your best friend or someone in the class. Make up your dialogues using the words and expressions on the topic “Appearance.” Dramatize them. You`ve got 3 minutes to do the task. Please, act out your conversations.
Dialogue 1.
Pupil 1: Hello! I`m very glad to see you!
Pupil 2: Hi! So am I! I haven`t seen you for ages. How are you?
Pupil1: I`m fine, thank you! And you?
Pupil 2: I`m OK. I hear, you`ve got a new girl in your class.
Pupil 1: That`s right.
Pupil 2: I`ve heard so much about her. Tell me about her. What`s she like?
Pupil 1: Well, she`s nice and good-looking.
Pupil 2: What does she look like?
Pupil 1: She is tall and slim. She `s got long fair hair.
Pupil 2: What colour are her eyes?
Pupil 1: Her eyes are dark blue and rather large.
Pupil 2: How old is she?
Pupil 1: She is 12.
Pupil 1: Who does she look like?
Pupil 2: She looks like her mother.
Pupil 1: I`m looking forward to meeting her.
Dialogue 2.
Pupil 1: Lyosha, will you help me, please?
Pupil 2: With pleasure.
Pupil 1: You see, my friend Nikita is coming today, but I can`t meet him at the station. I have a meeting after my lessons. Will you meet him?
Pupil 2: Sure. But I`ve never seen him.
Pupil 1: No problem. I try to describe him.
Pupil 2: OK. What does he look like?
Pupil 1: He is twelve, but I think he looks older as he is rather tall for his age.
Pupil 2: Hair?
Pupil 1: Fair and short…He has large green eyes and a straight nose.
Pupil 2: I`m afraid it is not much. There`ll be a lot of boys like that at the station.
Pupil 1: Oh, look! Nikita has a big mole on his left cheek.

4. Teacher: Nice of you. Thank you. You`ve described your friends or classmates. And what do you look like? Now I`ll give you the cards. Describe yourself, but don`t put down your name. Let`s collect the cards. Play a game “Who it is?” Read the description and guess who wrote it. Can you guess who it is?
Pupil: I`m tall and rather slim. My face is round and pleasant. My nose is short and turned up. My hair is long and fair. My eyes are large and green. I think, this is Olga.
Teacher: Is it true or false?
Pupils: It is true.
Teacher: Please, read one more description.
5. Teacher: Well done. We go on. Describe your character or the character of your friend. But we are to revise the words. Look at the blackboard. Here you can see some tasks.

Pupil 1: I`m not selfish and I`m not greedy. I`m rather clever, honest and kind. My parents say I`m a bit talkative.
Pupil 2: I`m friendly and kind. I`m a bit selfish and lazy but I`m rather honest. My friends say that I`m brave and clever.
Pupil 3: I`d like to tell you about my friend. He is clever, brave, honest and friendly. He isn`t greedy and selfish. His parents say that he is rather lazy but I don’t think so.
6. Teacher: Well done. This task is done brilliantly. Look at the blackboard at our word web. We have already described your appearance and your characters. But we have one more point “ Clothes”. Let`s discuss it. Now look at the blackboard. You can see an exercise here. Dasha, come to the blackboard and do it.

– We don`t have a school uniform. We wear what we like. So, I wear something different every day. Today I`m wearing my favourite clothes.
– Let me tell you about Tom`s clothes. He`s wearing black jeans, a light-blue shirt and a brown sweater.
– What about you, Jane?
– At school we do not wear trousers, so I always wear a uniform: a white blouse with a dark skirt. When it`s cold I put on a pullover. But my favourite clothes are jeans or shorts and a top.
Teacher: I`m pleased with your answers. Now we check written exercise. Dasha comment the exercise.
Teacher: Well done. Thank you. We go on. As far as I know, teenagers like to wear different styles of clothes. What kind of clothing do you prefer? Please, answer my questions:
- What do you usually wear? And why?
- And what are you wearing now?
Pupil 1: I usually like to wear jeans, trainers, a sweater. I like them because they are comfortable and fashionable. I look brilliant in them. I`m wearing a dark blue skirt and a light blouse now.
Pupil 2: As for me, I prefer to wear jeans, a T-shirt, trainers. I can wear them anywhere I like. I like to wear them all the time. Today I `m wearing a white shirt, brown shoes and black trousers.
Teacher: Thank you. Your answers are perfect. As far as I know, you`ve got some information to present. Please, present your project.
Pupil 1: Our project is “What are your school and favourite clothes?”
Pupil 2: Our classmates were answering questions about their school and favourite clothes. This is the information about clothing.

All the pupils don`t wear a school uniform.

Pupil 1: All our girls like to wear jeans, T-shirts, trainers and shoes because they are comfortable and fashionable. Juliya and Ruslana prefer skirts and blouses because they are not too casual. Polina, Katya and Dasha also like sweaters and trousers. They like to look smart.
