Team 1: Hello, dear friends! We are happy to meet you today. We wish you good luck. We are squirrels.

Squirrel, squirrel in the park
Your tail is like a question mark
Your little nose is black and bright,
Your eyes are glimmering with light.
When you run, you run in jumps,
Up the trees around the stumps,
Over the grass and clover, then
Scooting up the trees again.
Squirrels, squirrels, stop and see
What I brought along with me.
Something that is brown and sweet,
Something that you like to eat.
Squirrels don’t understand,
Here’s a peanut in my hand.

Team 2: Hello, dear friends! We are swallows. We are glad to see you and to have a competition with you. Best wishes and good luck.

Eight little swallows get ready to fly
The weather is cold,
There are clouds in the sky.

Eight little swallows are ready to go
Away from the winter
The ice and the snow.

Eight little swallows, as brave as can be,
Spread out their strong wings
To fly over the sea.

Eight little swallows fly high in the sky
We’ll come back next springtime,
But now it’s “Goodbye”.

We don’t say “Good-bye” to you, we say it to wintertime. We tell you “Hello”, “Good afternoon”.

The swallows are wheeling
About the sky,
So high!
“Swee-e-e! Swee-e-e!”
What do they cry?
Then they flutter,
And swoop at a fly
“We are here!
And summer is near!”
To me they cry.

The Dandelion

A dandelion yellow as gold,
What do you do all day?
I just wait here in the tall green grass
Till the children come to play.

A dandelion yellow as gold,
What do you do all night?
I wait and wait till the cold dew falls
And my hair grows long and white.

And what do you do when your hair is white?
And the children come to play?
They take me up into their little hands
And blow my hair away.

Yours and mine.

The sun, the trees, the grass, the sky,
The silver moon that’s sailing by,
The rain and dew and snowflakes white,
The flowers sweet and stars of night!

The songs of birds, wind whispering,
The autumn leaves, the buds of spring-
Such lovely things to hear and see
Belong to you, belong to me!

A big rose

An ant has to walk almost an hour
To get to the top of a rose-bush flower
A grasshopper has to hop and hop
To get to that rose-bush top.

Even a bee has to fly.
To get up there because it’s high
But I can just stand there with my nose,
Right on top of a big red rose.

Eagles

Eagles strike and eagles seize
Eagles fly wherever they please.
They catch the wind and high they soar
They reach for life and reach for more.
We together schooled
Are eagles flown?
We reach to life
To find our own.
Strong winds we spread
To catch the winds.
Wherever we go
Let us stay friends.

Tails

The lion has a tail,
And a very fine tail.
And so has the elephant,
And so has the whale,
And so has the crocodile,
And so has the quai.l
They’ve all got tails, but me
If I had a sixpence
I would buy one.
I’d say to the shopman,
“Let me try one!”
Then I’d say to the lion
“Why you’ve got a tail,
And so has the elephant,
And so has the whale,
And look! There’s the crocodile
He’s got a tail
You’ve all got tails like me!”

My little dog

I’ll never hurt my little dog,
But stroke and pat his head
I like to see him wag his tail,
I like to see him fed.
No, I shall never hurt my dog,
And never treat him ill,
But treat him kindly every day,
And he will love me still.

The next competition is “The best interpreter”. You’ve translated the English poems. One of you will recite the poem in English and another in Russian.

My dream

I love all kinds of animals
Dogs and cats and rabbits
I love all kinds of animals
Despite their little habits
If I had tons of money
D’you know what I would do?
I’d buy lots of animals
And have my own little zoo
But they wouldn’t be in cages
They’d be free to run around
And there’s one thing they would feel
And that is safe and sound.

Little bears

Once two little brown bears
Found a pear tree full of pears;
But they couldn’t climb up the there
For the trunk was smooth and bare.
“If I only had a chair,”
Said the elder brown bear
“I would get the biggest pear
That is hanging in the air”.
“If you don’t soil my hair”,
Said the younger little bear
“I will serve you as a chair
And you can get the biggest pear”.

If I ever see, if I ever see
On bush or tree
Young birds in their pretty nest,
I must not, in play,
Steal the birds away,
To grieve their mother’s breast
So I’ll speak to the birds
In my softest words
And when they can fly
In the bright blue sky
They’ll sing a song to me,
And then if I’m sad,
It will make me glad
To think they are happy and free.

One day a fox met a tiger in the forest. The tiger rushed at the fox ready to tear him to pieces. But the fox was not frightened. He said to the tiger, “Don’t think you are the strongest animal in the forest. It is true that I am smaller than you, but people are less afraid of you then you are afraid of me. I can prove it to you now. Come with me to the road where the people pass by. I’ll walk in front of you and you’ll see that they run away as soon as they see me. After that you can tear me to pieces”.

The tiger agreed and they went to the road. Not long afterwards a group of travelers came along the road. As soon as they saw the tiger walking behind the fox they ran away terrified.

“Do you believe me now?” asked the fox. The silly tiger was so frightened that he didn’t reply. He ran back into the forest. He really believed that the fox was a terrible dangerous animal.

Characters: Queen Rose, Snowdrop, Violet, Buttercup, Bluebell, Corn-flower, Sunflower.

In the queen’s palace all the flowers gathered to decide their turn to come on the earth. The Queen is sitting on her throne at one side. The flowers come up to her one by one and present themselves.

Snowdrop: I am a nice little flower in a white dress. I have no smell.

Queen-Rose: Your name will be Snowdrop. You will be the first flower in spring. People will see you on the places where the snow becomes water in the sun. They will like you very much. (The Snowdrop bows and stands at one side of the throne).

Violet: I’m a spring flower too. My dress is violet. I am very nice as you see.

Queen rose: Your name is Violet. You will come after the Snowdrop, a little later, when there is no snow in the fields, the days are longer and it is warmer. (The Violet bows and stands at the other side of the throne).

Buttercup: I am a little flower. I am dressed in a nice yellow dress. I like the sun. I like it when it is warm.

Rose Queen: Then you must come in summer, when it is warm and the sun shines all day long. Your name will be Buttercup. (It bows and stands next to the Snowdrop).

Bluebell: I am blue like the sky, and my dress is like a bell. I like the bell, too.

Queen Rose: Oh, I know, your name will be Bluebell. People will see you in the grass. You will make the fields beautiful. (It bows and stands next to the Violet).

Corn-flower: My colour is blue too. I make the fields beautiful, but I make the harvest not very rich.

Queen Rose: Your name, my beautiful one, will be Corn-flower. People will see you in the fields all the summer. (It bows and stands aside).

Sunflower: Look at me, please. I am like the sun.

Queen Rose: Yes, you look like the sun, so your name will be Sunflower. People will see you in the country in August, and you will look at the sun every day. (It bows and goes to one side of the throne).

(The Queen stands up and goes to the middle of the room).

Well, my dear flowers. Now you know that you are spring and summer flowers. You are not garden flowers. People can see you only in the fields. Now let’s sing and dance. Spring and summer will come here soon, and you must be ready to come together with them; first the Snowdrop, then the Violet, after them the Buttercup and the Bluebell, and then the Corn-flower and the Sunflower. (All the flowers make a ring and dance — герои исполняют танец под музыку песни “История любви”).

Buttercup: (coming into the middle of it recites).

Buttercups, buttercups,
Oh, the nicest flowers,
Coming in the springtime
To tell of sunny hours
When the trees are leafless,
When the fields are bare,
Buttercups, buttercups,
Spring up here and there

Bluebell:

The blue bell is the sweetest flower
That waves in summer air
Its blossoms have the mightiest power
To soothe my spirits care.

Queen Rose: Dear, friends! (To the children). Love us, take care of us. Don’t forget to water garden flowers. Don’t pull out field flowers. We are beautiful. We are glad to meet you and gladden your eyes. Be good kids of nature.

Do you know how to behave yourself in the Zoo?

Zoo manners.

Be careful what you say or do.
When you visit the animals in the zoo
Don’t make fun of the camel’s hump,
He is very proud of his noble bump.
Don’t laugh too much at the chimpanzee,
He thinks he’s as wise as you and me.
And the penguins strutting round the lake
Can understand the remarks you make.
Treat them as well as they treat you,
And you’ll always be welcome at the zoo.

Dear boys and girls! Remember, animals and birds are our little brothers. Don’t treat them badly.

You must tell ecological problems in the world during one minute.

  • Water is polluted Fishes are disappearing.
  • Air is polluted Factories throw their wastes into the open air and the result of it smoggy towns and cities.
  • Birds and animals are hurt.
  • Land is polluted.
  • Flowers are pulled out.
  • Baby plants are damaged.
  • Country side is spoiled.
  • Rubbish is left everywhere.
  • Forests are cut down.

Try to create a short essay about your attitude to nature. Do you consider that our nature a church is?

How I help the world.

The problem of ecology is important in our country. There are a lot of children who take care of the environment.

Our family is responsible for nature. We think that our environment is a church. We ought to behave ourselves properly and believe in God. The God created the world we live in. We must protect it as we are part of our beautiful nature.

In winter my father and I build bird’s houses. Every day I feed birds. In spring we plant trees and flowers. My mother grows beautiful tulips and daffodils, roses and poppies. I hate people who destroy the beauty of our nature, break baby-plants and pull out flowers. I want to be the kid who saves the world.

Beauty saves the world.

A summer sunny day. I looked out of the window and saw beautiful flowers. I run quickly to the flower-garden to admire them. I was only 5 years. I haven’t seen these flowers before in the garden. They were nice pink, white, red, yellow and even purple and black. I touched one flower and it pricked my finger, because it was sharp. I was near tears, it was rather painful. The flower looked at me and bowed its head. It was ashamed, I think.

Soon my mother came into the garden. She comforted me and explained that I shouldn’t touch the roses but mustn’t forget to take care of them. We became friends with roses. I run home, took a glass of water and watered the rose which bowed its head. It seemed that it thanked me.

Write down a poster “The protection of nature”.

Dear, friends!

  • Be kind to our beautiful nature.
  • Plant trees and flowers.
  • Place bird-houses in your yard.

  • Recycle newspapers and other paper products.
  • Save empty cans, plastic and glass for recycling.

  • We only looked and never touched,
