Цели занятия:

• Образовательные:
  • формирование целостных знаний по изучаемой теме;  
  • систематизация знаний об операционных системах, их основных особенностях.

  • развитие коммуникативных навыков;
  • активизация  познавательной деятельности студентов.
• Воспитательные:
  • воспитание культуры общения на иностранном языке;
  • развитие чувства товарищества и коллективизма;
  • формирование интереса к изучаемому предмету.

Наглядные пособия, ТСО: компьютер, проектор, презентации проектов, тесты проверки знаний.

В ходе изучения темы студент должен:

• знать: термины по теме, особенности, технические возможности операционных систем Windows 7, Linux, Mac OS X, Android. 
• уметь: употреблять изученную лексику в монологической и диалогической речи, характеризовать операционные системы.    

План занятия.

1. Организационный момент. Вступительное слово преподавателя.
2. Введение в тему урока.
3. Работа над техническими терминами. (Произношение, объяснение терминов, работа с диаграммой).
4. Защита проектов.
5. Тестирование.

Начало занятия:

Teacher: Good afternoon, my dear friends.
Take your seats. I am very glad to see you again at our English tuition.
Today we have an unusual class. You see here a lot of guests. So I think you’ll try your best and our work will be very successful.

Введение в тему занятия:

Teacher: We’ll speak today about operating systems. There are different operating systems in use now. Each of them has its symbol .You see here the symbols of Windows OS, Linux, Mac OS, Android. Each OS is designed for specific microprocessor. Operating systems have the same features and also a lot of differences. Some of them, for e.g. Windows OS are the most commonly used now. They have about 90% of the markets share. Some OS, e.g. Linux has only 1% of the market share, in spite of the fact, that this OS is free of charge.
We’ll speak today about all these problems. Our students have prepared projects.
They will represent their projects, speak about advantages, disadvantages, technical characteristics of the OS.
We ask our English teachers to work as a jury today. In the end of our class we’ll decide which project is the best today.
You see also the teacher of subject “Operating Systems and Environments” in our class. We ask him to be our technical expert today.
My dear students, you studied this subject last year. Today we’ll revise the basic things and ideas of it. So, our purpose today is to decide – which OS you consider the best today.

Student: Operating System is a set of programs that manages computer hardware resources.

Student: The supervisor program is the program, that manages OS.
Teacher: I don’t know what does it mean: resident program
Student: Resident program is the program which remains in memory.
Teacher: Give the definition of the term nonresident program.
Student: Nonresident program is the program, which is loaded into memory only as needed.
Teacher: What kind of organization is Free Software Foundation?
Student: It is the organization of volunteers dedicated to fulfilling the ideals of making good software, which anyone could use without paying.
Teacher: Open Source. What does it mean?
Student:It is a type of software development where any programmer can develop or fix bugs.
Teacher: What are the main functions of an operating system?
Student:  Manage the computer resources, establish a user interface, execute and provide services for applications programs.
Teacher:  Match the labels to the four layers of this diagram.

Teacher:  And now we begin the main part of our class-projects discussion. Let’s start with the first project “Mac OS X operating system”. (Студенты рассказывают об операционной системе,   сопровождая рассказ презентацией. Приложение 1)
Teacher:  Thank you for your wonderful report and presentation.

Student:What is a standard support of Mac OS X?
Student: It has advanced PDF standards support, open GL and QuickTime. They are integrated into the OS.
Student: What is the type of user inter face?
Student: It has GUI.
Student: What about the source code availability? Is it freely available?
Student: No, it is not.
Teacher: One more project. This project is devoted to Linux OS. (Студенты рассказывают об операционной системе, сопровождая рассказ презентацией. Приложение 2)
Teacher: Thank you very much for your report and presentation.

Teacher:  Well, our next project is Windows 7.

– Why do you thing windows is the most commonly used now?
– Are there any disadvantages in this OS?
– Is the next version, Windows 8 in use now?
Teacher:  Well, and the last report is devoted to Android OS.

Teacher: Now, it is time for the test. You have to choose the right variant. We will check up your tests in a few minutes. (Студенты выполняют тест. Приложение  5)
Teacher: Time is out. Let us check up your tests. (Проверка осуществляется с помощью компьютерной программы.)
