Класс: для учащихся четвёртых классов школ с углубленным изучением английского языка

Цель урока: Совершенствование речевых навыков, автоматизация лексического материала, создание прочных речевых связей в однотипных речевых ситуациях.

Задачи урока:

Образовательный аспект:

  1. Автоматизация уже изученных лексических единиц, создание прочных речевых связей в однотипных речевых ситуациях;
  2. Включение ЛЕ в речь;
  3. Автоматизация грамматического материала.

Развивающий аспект:

  1. Развитие чувства языка на основе контекста и наглядности;
  2. Развитие языковой догадки;
  3. Развитие навыков говорения, аудирования и чтения;
  4. Развитие навыков монологической речи.

Воспитательный аспект:

  1. Воспитание интереса к изучению темы;
  2. Воспитание культуры самостоятельной работы;
  3. Воспитание самостоятельности и личной ответственности.

Оборудование: компьютер, проектор, магнитофон, презентация Power point “A trip to Australia”, аудиозапись песни “San Francisco”, раздаточный материал (рабочие листы), картинки, карточки, чемоданы.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

Good afternoon, boys and girls! Sit down please!

We begin our lesson! What’s the date today?

Who is absent today? Why?

Thank you for the information!

2. Целеполагание и мотивация.

We’ve just studied the theme “Travelling” and this lesson is devoted to this topic. During our lesson we’ll review our vocabulary, tenses, listen to the tape, make and act out our dialogues.

The motto of our lesson is
"The more you live,
The more you travel,
The more you travel,
The more you see,
The more you see,
The more you learn." <Приложение 1> (Слайд 1)

Please, don't forget about these words during our lesson and at the end of it you'll try to explain why it is good to have them as a motto.

3. A Brainstorming Activity.

4. Short Discussion. (Слайд 2)

Work in small groups and answer the following questions:

1. What’s your favorite way of travelling?
2. Why do you like to travel by this kind of transport?
3. Which kind of transport is the most expensive?
4. Which kind of transport do you like best?

5. Today we’ll make a virtual trip to a very interesting country where people speak English. But it is not America or Great Britain.

I want to offer you Australia.  (Слайд 3) Where is this country? Can you show it on the map?  (Слайд 4)

Capital – Canberra

Population – more than 20 million people

Location – on the continent between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean

Language – English and native languages

6. We shall travel from Petropavlovsk to Sydney.  (Слайд 6). I have chosen Sydney because I think you would like to visit the largest aquarium in the world – the Sydney aquarium.  (Слайд 7).

I hope you are interested. On our way we’ll meet many interesting people, see wonderful places and buildings.

What do you think is the best way for us to travel from Petropavlovsk to Canberra? Of course, we’ll travel by plane.

7. But first we have to pack our luggage. (Pupils get little suitcases and cards with pictures <Приложение 2> of things they need and don’t need while travelling. The aim of the game is to choose the things they need.) Who is the quickest? We’ll have two teams. The list of the things you have to take is on the board (a skirt, a T-shirt, a shirt, jeans, a blouse, a toothbrush, a toothpaste, a camera, sandals, a hairbrush, a raincoat, a jacket, sunglasses, trainers, a sweater, a dress, a hat, documents, money, shorts)  (Слайд 8). Choose them and put into your bags.

8. At home Pupil A and Pupil B learnt a dialogue by heart “At the airport”. Let’s listen to them.

At the airport

A: Good afternoon.
B: Good afternoon.
A: I would like a ticket to Sydney, please.
B: When are you going to fly?
A: Today or tomorrow I think.
B: Just a minute. I think flight 305 is the best for you.
A: When is the flight?
B: 7.40
A: Excellent. How much is the ticket?
B: Business or tourist class?
A: Tourist class, please. Business class is too expensive.
B: That will be 900 dollars.
A: Here you are.
B: Thank you.
A: Thank you.

9. So we have tickets and our trip begins. But not to get bored in the air let’s play “The theater of pantomime”. (Pupils get cards with the following words – luggage, plane, plate, wind, ship, ticket, a driver, a horse. <Приложение 3> The task is to show the thing so that other pupils can guess and name it.)  (Слайд 11).

10. Now we are in Canberra. This is the capital of Australia. Let’s read some facts about this city. (Cлайд 12).

Canberra. Short Facts

  • Population: 353000 people
  • Driving time to Sydney: 3 hours
  • Single bus ticket: $4.00 (Children under 5 travel free)
  • A ticket to the National Zoo -$30
  • Children 4 to 15 years $18

But we need to go to Sydney. Let’s go there by train. At the railway station we meet a stranger. (Слайд 14). He wants to know about our country. Let’s answer his questions. (Слайд 15)

  1. Where are you from?
  2. What is the capital of Kazakhstan?
  3. How many people live in your country?

Now we have to buy tickets for a Sydney train. (Слайд 16). Dialogue “At the railway station” (Pupils are acting out a dialogue)

B: Good morning. May I help you?
A: When is the train to Sydney please?
B: 3:15 madam.
A: Which platform?
B: Platform seven.
A: How much is the ticket?
B: Single or return?
A: Return please.
B: That will be 50 dollars.
A: Here you are.
B: Thank you, madam.
A: Thank you.

11. We are on the way to Sydney. (Слайд 17). What can we do in the train. Let’s listen to the radio. (Слайд 18). The song is about different cities. (Children listen to the song by global deejays – the sound of San Francisco. <Приложение 4> <Приложение 5> Your task is to name all the cities you heard in the song.

12. Welcome to Sydney. (Слайд 20). We are at the bus stop and have to find the right bus to the Sydney Aquarium. (Слайд 21). Dialogue “At the bus stop”

A: Excuse me. What bus do I take to the Aquarium?
B: Take bus 79.
A: Is there a bus stop near here?
B: Yes, there is. It’s on the opposite side, just in front of the cinema.
A: How long will it take me to get there?
B: I think about half an hour at this time of the day. There is a lot of traffic now.
A: Thank you.

13. Now let’s find out the way to the aquarium. (Children are acting out a dialogue)

Dialogue “In the street” (Слайд 22)

A: Excuse me. Could you help me?
B: Sure. What do you want?
A: Where is the Sydney Aquarium?
B: Oh, that’s easy. Walk to the corner and then to the left.
A: To the corner and then to the left?
B: That’s right. And then walk one block and you are near the Sydney Aquarium.
A: Thank you.

14. Congratulations. We have found the famous aquarium. (Слайд 23). What’s inside?

Lot’s of sharks, different kinds of fish and skate. We can just admire the nature. (Слайды 24–27). Pupils describe the pictures, discuss what they like most of all, and share their impressions.

15. It’s time for us to go back. How will we get to the airport? (Слайд 28, 29). Let’s use water taxi to go to the airport.

A water taxi is a boat used as a public. The color of such boats in Sydney is usually yellow. There are 15 seats in one water taxi. A usual price for such kind of a taxi is $20–30. (Слайд 30, 31).

16. Home sweet home. (Слайд 34).

Let’s check the motto. (Слайд 35). We’ve travelled a lot. We’ve seen a lot. Now it’s time to check if you’ve learnt something. Pupils are given handouts with the quiz.

18. Подведение итогов урока. So my dear friends, today you have had a good opportunity to extend our knowledge about a wonderful country – Australia. Let’s look through your answers to the quiz and see how well you understood the basic information.

I liked the way you worked at the lesson, all of you were active and creative. I am going to put you good and excellent marks. You really did your best and I am extremely pleased to have such good pupils. Maybe you have some questions. We can speak and tell much else but it is time to finish.

18. Домашнее задание. Your task for the next lesson is to write a short essay to an Australian pupil you met in Sydney. Your essay is called “I am from Kazakhstan”. In 15–20 sentences write about our home town and about our country. What are the places of interest in Petropavlovsk? What is the weather like? What people live in Kazakhstan? Is the task clear?
