... This year we started learning French. I think it’s fun. I can already use some simple phrases. I like the melody of the language, but it’s quite difficult to pronounce some sounds. Is English the only foreign language that pupils learn in Russia or can you choose other foreign languages? Is it fun to learn a foreign language for you, why or why not? How do you plan to use it in the future?

How many TV-sets have you got? Do you watch TV programmes together? Don’t you think that television destroys communication among family members?

Is it popular among young people in your country? Why do you think some works of modern art are so expressive?

They said they had been doing it just for fun. What do you think of the boys’ behaviour? Why do you think they acted in such a silly way? ... Some of my friends think that sending to prison is the only way to punish those who committed a crime. To my mind, imprisonment isn’t the most effective punishment in many cases. ... my neighbour’s son was attacked by a gang of teens when he was going home last night. Luckily, he is strong enough (he does judo) - so he was able to defend himself. Unfortunately, it is difficult to feel safe nowadays. Are there many accidents of such kind in your town? Have you ever been in a situation like that? What should a person do for personal safety in the street?

... More and more people get involved in environmental protection. However, some of my friends think that environmental problems can be solved only by the government and individuals can do little to help the environment. Do you agree? What do you think everyone should do to save the environment? Is there any Green Movement where you live? Wouldn’t you like to start one, if there isn’t?

... I wish I didn’t live in a block of flats! Our neighbours are absolutely terrible. They leave litter in the staircase. And that noise – it never seems to stop. Loud music, arguments, the TV at high volume – even at night! Worst of all, it’s no use talking to them – they just don’t listen. I wonder if you have the same problems with your neighbours. How do you cope? Where would you prefer to live –  in a block of flats or in a detached house? Why?

Some good news – I’ve been chosen for an exchange school program to Germany!
