Teacher ( в костюме ведьмы): Hello, students! I’m glad to see you! Let’s start our out-of-class activity . Today you will learn a lot about its traditions and history. You will have a group game, do different tasks and collect points for right answers. You will play in Halloween. And In the end of our out-of-class activity you will sing and will dance.

II.

1. "Magic Poetry" –

Teacher: Some British people strongly believe that Halloween is a magic festival. So, let’s start our out-of-class activity with "magic" poetry.

1 Five little pumpkins

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said: "Oh, my! It’s getting late!"
The second one said: "There are witches in the air!"
The third one said: "But we don’t care!"
The fourth one said: "Let’s run and run, and run!"
The fifth one said: "I’m ready for some fun!"
Oooo went the wind and out went the light
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

"Treat" by Jack Prelutsky.

Trick or treat, trick or treat,
Give us something good to eat.
Give us candy, give us cake,
Give us something sweet to take.
Give us cookies, fruit and gum,
Hurry up and give us some.
You had better do it quick
Or we'll surely play a trick.
Trick or treat, trick or treat,
Give us something good to eat.

It’s Halloween.

By Jack Prelutsky.

It’s Halloween! It’s Halloween!
The moon is full and bright.
And we shall see what can’t be seen
On any other night!

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls
Grinning goblins fighting duels
Werewolves rising from their tombs,
Witches on their magic brooms.

In masks and gouns we haunt the street
And knock on doors for trick or treat.
Tonight we are the king and queen,
For oh tonight it’s Halloween!

(The party begins with the ghosts’ dancing.)

It must be halloween.

3. "All Hallows Eve" –

Teacher: And now several students are going to tell us some really interesting information about Halloween: its origin, history, traditions, beliefs in the past and superstitions nowadays. Listen to them very attentively, after their report you will answer my questions .

1) The Druid are magic people. They can speak to the trees and animals. For them a year has two halves: a light half (spring and summer) and a dark half (autumn and winter). Spring and summer in Scotland are very nice. It is hot. The sun shines every day. The nights are short and the days are long. The weather is fine. People work in the fields or play in the woods. Autumn and winter are very cold. The weather is bad. In autumn it rains and in winter it snows. The sky is always grey and there is no sun. It is very dark. A cold wind blows. There is one day between these two seasons. It is 31 October – Halloween. It is very special and magic day. It is not summer and it is not winter. On this day the dead come back to us and people can travel in time.

2) Today's Halloween Traditions.
Halloween is a festival that takes place on October 31. In the United States children wear costumes and masks and go trick-or-treating. Many of them carve jack-o'-lanterns out of pumpkins. Fortunetelling and storytelling about ghosts and witches are popular activities. The main Halloween activity for Children is trick-or-treating. Children dress in costumes and masks and go from door to door saying "trick or treat". The neighbours give children such treats as candy, fruit and pennies. So that children do not play tricks on them. Most jack-o'-lanterns contain a candle inside. An Irish legend says that jack-o'-lanterns are named after the man called Jack. He could not enter heaven because he was a miser, and he could not enter hell because he had played jokes on devil. As a result, Jack has to walk on the earth with his lantern until Judgment Day. Fortunetelling is an important part of Halloween. For example, a coin, a ring and a thimble were baked into a cake. It was believed that the person who found the coin would become wealthy. The one who found the ring would marry soon. And the person who found the thimble would never get married.

People once believed that there were many ghosts and witches on the Earth and that they met on October 31 to worship the devil. Today, people do not believe in ghosts and witches but they like to tell stories About them on Halloween.

Questions:

  1. When and where did people start celebrating the holiday?
  2. What holiday did Celts celebrate? Why did they use pumpkins?
  3. What are the main traditions of Halloween?
  4. What do the children do on Halloween?
  5. What are the popular activities on Halloween?
  6. Do people believe in ghosts and witches today?

4. "Halloween Stories" –

Teacher: One of the Halloween traditions is storytelling. British people like interesting unreal stories about ghosts, witches and other magic creatures. So on the blackboard you can see 6 words. And your task will be to write some stories using all words in order. You should start your story with "One Halloween night..." In 7 minutes you must be ready to tell the class your stories.

7. Final song names «Happy-Halloween ».

Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red
I am the one hiding under your stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise
Round that corner, man hiding in the trash can
Something's waiting now to pounce, and how you'll...
Scream! This is Halloween
Red 'n' black, slimy green
Aren't you scared?
Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
Everybody scream, everybody scream
In our town of Halloween!
I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Halloween! Halloween!
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween
In this town
Don't we love it now?
Everyone's waiting for the next surprise
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everybody scream
Wont' ya please make way for a very special guy
Our man jack is King of the Pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King now
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
La la la la-la
