  1. Организационный момент. (Приветствие, представление команд)
  2. Рассказ о своей стране (команды рассказывают о Великобритании и России).
  3. “Диалог” между командами (учащиеся задают вопросы друг другу, интересуясь политикой, экономикой, образованием, культурой другой страны).
  4. Рассказ о столицах этих стран.
  5. “Экзамен” для партнёров (вопросы о стране “противника”).
  6. “Литературная игра” (кто этот известный человек?)
  7. Закончить предложения, записанные на карточках.
  8. “Состязания” в грамматике (синхронный перевод предложений с русского языка на английский язык).
  9. Просмотр фрагмента видеофильма (или аудиопрослушивание) о Кембридже и Оксфорде, и беседа по увиденному.
  10. Подведение итогов (чья команда набрала больше очков).

Цели урока.

  1. Практиковать учащихся в диалогической и моногической речи на основе изученного материала.
  2. Расширение страноведческого материала по темам “Россия” и “Великобритания”.

Задачи урока.

  1. Развитие умений участвовать в беседе на английском языке при обобщение лексических тем “Россия” и “Великобритания”.
  2. Развитие умений задавать уточняющие вопросы.
  3. Речевая тренировка учащихся в умении отвечать на вопросы собеседника.
  4. Отработка грамматических навыков речи.
  5. Развитие умений классифицировать информацию в соответствии с заданными вопросами.
  6. Культуроведческое обогащение речевой практики школьников.
  7. Развитие коллективной деятельности.
  8. Развитие интереса учащихся в области изученной темы посредством просмотра видеоматериала.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

Hello, dear boys and girls and our quests! Today we are having a meeting between two teams: representatives from Russia and Great Britain.

English is international language, so we shall use it to communicate with each other. The members of each team will tell us about their country and the capital, ask the other team any questions they like and take part in some mental competition.

As we see each team has the flag of its country and the emblem. For every task the team will get points. And we shall see who will be the winner.

1) So, let’s begin our intercourse. Exchange your knowledge of your countries with each other. You are welcome! (Один представитель из каждой команды рассказывает о своей стране, используя географическую карту и картинки). For the right interesting answers you will get 5 points.

2) Thank you very much for the interesting presentations of your countries. But maybe you would like to know some more facts about each country. You may ask each other questions, which you are interested in. For every right questions and the right answer you will get 1 point. (Учащиеся задают вопросы другой команде, интересуясь политикой, экономикой, образованием и культурой другой страны).

Questions to the British team:

- Do children in Great Britain wear uniform at school?

- Why do British people like to speak about the weather?

- What are the main industries in Great Britain?

- What do you know about the flag of the U.K.?

- What is the role of the British Parliament?

Questions to the Russian team:

- Where does the Volga flow?

- What oceans wash your country?

- What is your country rich in?

- What are the symbols of your country?

- When was Moscow founded?

- What other capitals were in Russia in the past?

- What are the famous places of interest in Moscow?

- What kind of people live in your country?

- Who is the Head of State in your country?

3) And what can you tell us about the capitals of your countries? The members of each team must in chain say a few words or sentences about Moscow and London. For every sentence you will get 1 point. The more sentences you will say, the more points you will get. And the “British” team will show us a fragment from the video film about London. (Учащиеся из каждой команды называют по цепочке 1-2 предложения о столице их страны. Сколько предложений называет команда, столько баллов она получает. “Британская” команда демонстрирует фрагмент из фильма “Лондон”).

4) And now let us have an examination for both teams. The aim of this exam is to find out what you know about your partners country. The pupils from each team must answer the questions written on the card. You may answer them at once or consult with your team. For every right answer you will get 3 points. (Учащиеся из каждой команды по очереди вытаскивают карточки и отвечают на вопрос сразу или посоветовавшись с командой.)

5) The next task is called “Literature game”. You are to guess who this man is and what he is famous for. First you will listen to some information prepared by the other team and then think it over. For the right answer you will get 1 point, for the wrong one — zero. (Каждая команда по очереди дает краткое сообщение о русском или английском писателе или другом известном человеке, другая команда должна угадать кто этот человек).

- He is the Father of Russian science. He was a poet, a painter, an astronomer, a geographer. He lived in the 18-th century. He was a founder of the first Russian University. Who was this outstanding man?

- He is the greatest Russian dramatist and short story writer. He was born in 1860 and died when he was 44. His famous plays were “Uncle Vanya”, “The Seagull” and “The Cherry Orchard”. Do you know this man?

- He was a great poet. He lived and worked in the 19th century. He was sent to Caucasus for his poem on Pushkin’s death. In 1841 the poet was killed. He was not 27. Who was he and what poems of him do you know?

- He was a great Russian painter. He expressed the past against the background of ordinary people. His masterpiece is “Boyarynya Morozova”. Who was he?

- He wrote this novel in 1719. He told the true story of a sailor who lived on the island for 28 years. Who is this writer and what is his famous novel?

- He was born in India and lived there for some years. His best works were stories for children about animals and some books on history. Do you know this famous English writer?

- His real name was Charles Dodgson. He loved children very much, but he had no family. He often told his stories to a little girl, Alice, who was his friend’s daughter. Who was this man and what did he write?

- She is known all over the world as the Queen of Crime. She wrote 78 crime novels. The famous characters of her novels are Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Who is this woman?

What other famous people of your countries do you know? You may get extra points for your answers.

6) And now each team gets the task in written form. You will check up both your knowledge and your spelling. Each team has a card with some sentences. In these sentences some information is missed. You are to complete these sentences. For every right sentence you will get 1 point.

7) The next task will help us to reveal how well you know grammar. Each team in turn must translate some sentences from Russian into English. Don’t forget to use the right articles, passive constructions, degrees of comparison and prepositions. For every right answer you will get 3 points. (Учитель называет предложения, которые учащиеся по очереди переводят на английский язык, используя нужные артикли, предлоги, страдательный залог и степени сравнения прилагательных).

- Уральские горы отделяют Европу от Азии.

- Леса в России сконцентрированы на Европейском севере страны, в Сибири и на Дальнем Востоке.

- В России Рождество празднуют 7 января. Это религиозный праздник.

8) Now it’s time for listening comprehension. Your task is to watch a fragment from the film about England, to listen to some information about two English cities: Oxford and Cambridge and then to describe them, saying as many sentences as you can. The number of points you will get, depends on the number of sentences you will say. (Последнее задание заключается в том, чтобы, просмотрев фрагмент из фильма “Англия”, рассказать как можно больше о двух английских городах: Оксфорде и Кембридже.

The answers to the tasks:

9) - In some schools pupils wear uniforms, but in some they don’t.

- Because the weather changes very often.

- They are: coal-mining, ship-building, textile industry, electronics, and machinery.

- It consists of three crosses: the cross of St. George, the cross of St. Andrew, the cross of St. Patrick. The flag is called the Union Jack.

- The British Parliament makes laws and holds the elections.

- They are breakfast, lunch, 5 o’clock tea and dinner.

- The Head of State is the Queen, but the real power belongs to the Prime Minister, who rules the country with the support of the Queen.

- The Volga flows into the Caspian Sea.

- The Arctic ocean, the Pacific ocean, the Atlantic ocean.

- Russia is rich in gold, silver, copper, natural gas, oil and other minerals.

- They are the national flag (which consists of three stripes – blue, red and white), the Hymn, the Coat of Arms ( a two-headed eagle) and the birch tree.

- Moscow was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgoruky.

- They were Kiev (at the times of Y. Dolgoruky), and St. Petersburg (in the days of Peter the Great).

- The Tretyakov Art Gallery, Red Square, The Kremlin, Pushkin Fine Arts Museum, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Central Military Museum, the Central Stadium in Luzhniki and others.

- Russian people are talented. There are many well-known people in our country: Anton Chekhov, Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky…..Russian people have many discoveries in different fields of science, industry, medicine and culture. Russian people are open, kind and hospitable.

- Russia is a parliamentary republic. The Head of state is the President.

The answers to the questions:

- Napoleon wanted to conquer Russia as practically all of Europe now depended on him.

- Till children are 6 they go to kindergartens (or nursery schools), at the age of 6 or 7 children go to an infant school and then to a secondary school, where they stay until they are 16 or 17. Children in Russia can also get education in vocational or technical schools and colleges. After finishing secondary schools they may enter an institute or a university.

- The population of Russia is 150 million people.

- It was believed that the first person to visit ones house on New Year’s Day could bring good or bad luck. It must be a man (not a woman), and he must bring three articles: a piece of coal to wish warm, a piece of bread to wish food and a silver coin to wish wealth.

- The city is the heart of London, its financial and business centre. Many banks, offices and firms are situated there (for example, the Bank of England, the Stock Exchange and the Old Bailey).

- Nearly all English kings and queens were crowned there. Many outstanding statesmen, writers, scientists, poets and painters were buried there (Newton, Darwin, Chaucer, Dickens, Kipling and others).

- The “Horse Guards” means both the nice building in the street Whitehall and the Queens cavalry. The ceremony of changing the Horse Guards in London is very interesting. The horse guards wear red and white uniforms, big black riding boots and big silver helmets. The guard is changed every hour. While changing neither horse nor man moves, they stand like statues.

4. The translation.

- Citizens of Russia have the right to education, which is guaranteed by the Constitution.

- It often rains in England.

- The British Isles are separated from Europe by the English Channel.

- On the North side of Trafalgar Square there is the National Gallery.

- The British Museum contains the priceless collections of books, coins, sculptures….

- New Year is less popular in Britain than Christmas.

- The English are known as great lovers of sport.

5. Listening comprehension.

Oxford. The town of Oxford is first mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 911 A.D. So it is one of the oldest towns in the world. Oxford is the town of learning. There are 24 colleges for men, 5 for women and another 5 both for men and women. Each college in Oxford has its name and its coat-of-arms. Oxford is a commercial and industrial town. In the eastern part the car industry is developed. There is a great deal of bicycle traffic in Oxford. Relaxing on the river is a traditional pastime of students. Oxford has a lot of historical buildings. From the top of a bus tourists can enjoy beautiful buildings and colleges.

Cambridge. Cambridge is situated on the river Cam. The river Cam flows through the heart of the city. Cambridge is the place of unforgettable Kings College. Cambridge attracts 4 million visitors a year from all over the world. Here is St. James College, famous for its magnificent architecture. The Cambridge University started during the 13th century and grew until today. Now there are more than 30 colleges here. The colleges line the right bank of the river Cam. There are beautiful college gardens with green lawns and lines of tall trees. The oldest college is Peterhouse, which was founded in 1284. The most recent college is Robinson college, which was opened in 1977. Many great men studied at Cambridge: Newton, the scientist; Kapitsa, the famous Russian physicist; Byron, the writer; Darwin, the scientist; Cromwell, the soldier. Now large parts of the population of the city are teachers and students. The most popular sport here is rowing.
