6. Respond the following commands and requests. Use the model.

14. Read a sentence and then add another sentence with “since” or “for”.

16. Make up your own questions with “how long”. Let your classmates answer them.

17. Translate into English.

18. Oral activity.

The teacher divides the class into two teams and writes a list of time words/expressions on the board. The teams in turn make sentences using “for” or “since” and an appropriate verb in the Present Perfect. Each correct answer gets 1 point. The team with the most points is the winner.

List: two hours, last week, Christmas, last summer, a long time, Tuesday, a week, three days, 1986, last night, August, five months, … … …

Insert “already”, “ever”, “yet”, “just” into the appropriate sentences.

22. Translate into English using the Present Perfect Tense.

23. Write the time markers either in the Present Perfect column or the Past Indefinite one.

for a few days; before; never; last week; this year; just; the day before yesterday; lately; yesterday; a few days ago; ever; yet; already; last year; recently; last Sunday; for a long time; since I wrote to him last; last time; since childhood; in 1967; since 1967.

24. Rewrite the sentences using the Present Perfect or the Past Indefinite. Follow the model.

Model: I (to write) a letter to my cousin. (already, yesterday)

I have already written a letter to my cousin.

I wrote a letter to my cousin yesterday.

25. Read each situation and then complete it. Use the verbs given in brackets.

Model: Ten minutes ago Tom lost his key. Now he has it in his hand. (lose/find)

26. Oral Activity.

The teacher divides the class into two teams and starts saying adverbs which take either Past Simple or Present Perfect. The teams in turn make sentences using the adverbs. Each correct sentence gets 1 point. The team with the most points is the winner.

Example:

Teacher: just

Pupil 1: I’ve just seen a cat.

Teacher: last week

Pupil 2: I visited my granny last week.

27. Choose the correct tense.

31.  Supply either the Present Perfect or the Past Indefinite Tense as required.

32. Put the verbs in brackets into the Present Perfect or the Past Simple.

Mr Briggs is away on business and he is phoning his wife to see how she is.

33.  Translate the sentences into English using the verbs either in the Present Perfect or the Past Indefinite tense.

1. В этом году мы прочли 2 рассказа Марка Твена. – А что вы читали в прошлом году?

2. Могу я видеть Джона? – Боюсь, что нет. Он уехал в Москву. – Когда он уехал? – Два дня назад.

3. Вы уже сделали это упражнение? – Нет, я перевела только десять предложений.

4. Вы уже сдали все экзамены? (to pass exams) – Нет, мы сдали только два. – Сколько экзаменов вы сдавали в прошлом году? – Пять.

5. Вы в Лондоне находитесь уже неделю. Что вы уже посмотрели? – Мы были в Тауэре, на Трафальгарской площади, в Национальной галерее. – О, вы уже видели много интересного.

6. В последнее время я ничего не читала по-английски, потому что мой английский довольно слаб.
