Ход урока и методические рекомендации
I. Рассказ учителя и беседа по вопросам.
Учитель рассказывает о работе над школьным проектом "Санкт-Петербург 300" и его пригороде Петергофе, в процессе рассказа используя картинки, видиокассету или дискету. Называя достопримечательности, учитель просит учащихся повторять названия.
Рeterhof is an outstanding monument of the 18th century Russian art and culture. The largest structure dominating the entire ensemble is the Grand Palace <Рисунок 1>. The unique architectural and landscape-gardening ensemble is mainly composed of the Upper Gardens <Рисунок 2> and the Lower Park <Рисунок 3>, the famous palaces:
The Marly <Рисунок 4>, the Monplaisir Palace <Рисунок 5>, the Hermitage Pavilion <Рисунок 6>. Some of the fountains: the Sampson Fountain <Рисунок 7>, the Chess Hill Fountain <Рисунок 8>, the Pyramid Fountain <Рисунок 9>, the Triton Fountain <Рисунок 10>, the Little Umbrella Fountain <Рисунок 11>, the Little Oak Fountain <Рисунок 12>.
После этого учитель проводит беседу с классом по вопросам. Примерные вопросы: Do you often go to Peterhof? With whom do you usually go there?
Do you like to visit Peterhof? Are there many fountains in the park? What is your favourite one? When did you go there last time? Did you enjoy it?
П. Словарь. Vocabulary. В этом виде деятельности производится работа со словарем британских изданий. Ученикам дома необходимо было выписать значения некоторых слов, предложенных учителем на предыдущем уроке. Этот вид деятельности предполагает подготовку к следующему виду (работа с текстом). Проверка знания значения слов проходит в режиме: Ученик-Ученик.
Один ученик называет значение слова по английски – другому необходимо назвать его.

Ш. Аудирование.Listening. В этом виде деятельности используется запись носителя языка с текстом о Петергофе. Ученики прослушивают запись и одновременно выполняют задание, в котором необходимо отметить те названия фонтанов, информацию о которых они прослушили в записи. После этого учащиеся называют сначала те названия, о которых говорилось в тексте, а затем те, которых не было в тексте. Задание выполняется в парах.

Работу рекомендуется выполнять в группах. Неправильные предложения ученики должны исправить и назвать правильные.
The Capital of Fountains
Peterhof is located 30 km west of St.Petersburg on the shores of the Gulf of Finland. It was the summer residence of Peter the Great, built to commemorate victory over the Swedes in 1709 and to show the Strength of the Russian Empire.
Peterhof was designed to resemble Versailles in France and architects from all over the world were involved in its design. Over 4000 peasants dug the gardens, parks and canals, and Peter the Great himself helped plan the layout of the gardens and fountains. Vasily Tuvolkov, Russian’s first hydraulics engineer, built the fountains in 1721-1722.
The Great Cascade fountain in the gardens has 17 waterfalls, 142 water jets, 66 fountains, 29 bas-reliefs and 39 gilded statues, including the famous five-ton Sampson Fountain. It is surrounded by eight dolphins and is wrestling the open jaws of a lion from which a jet of water shoots over 20 metres into the air. Another fountain, the Chess Hill, contains some of the best waterfalls cascading over bronze dragons. The Triton Fountain shows Neptune’s son wrestling with a sea monster. The Pyramid Fountain was designed by Peter the Great and is made up of seven tiers and 505 jets.
Some of the fountains are there to surprise and amuse visitors. The Little Umbrella fountain sprays out water from 164 jets as soon as anyone sits on a bench underneath it. The Little Oak fountain sprays out water if it senses any weight approaching it and the Pebbles fountain also drenches visitors who sit on a nearby bench.
To feel happy and make their spirits high, Russians and foreign visitors come to Peterhof to enjoy its magic charms.
