Край мой родной

Мой край Подгоренский, привольный,
Родимый дом, где я живу,
Где утром слышу говор школьный.
Я малой родиной зову.
Твои просторы голубые,
На зорьке трели соловья.
Люблю и горы меловые:
Ведь это Родина моя.

Teacher: OK. Today we are going to have an unusual lesson. It’ll be a trip to our native place the Podgorenskiy District. Some of you are foreign guests. And other pupils are guides.  We’re going to talk about sights of our region.

Pupil 1. Dear friends! Welcome to our settlement Podgorenskiy. My native settlement is situated in the Podgorenskiy district of the Voronezh region. The Voronezh region is the biggest and the most economically developed region in the Central Black Earth area. (Слайд№2)
Chalk rocks on high banks of the Don in Belogorje are called Russian Switzerland. Here the Podgorenskiy district is situated. (Слайд №3)

Pupil 2. My native place has favourable climate, what contributes to agriculture development. Pine woods with oakery prevail in my area. It has picturesque sceneries.
You may think that the life in a provincial settlement rather dull. Perhaps, you are right. But I’ll try to prove that this life is not so bad.
Every morning you get up and breathe in fresh air: in summer it is smell of fresh grass and flowers, in winter it is a smell of frost and snow which covers everything with its white thick duvet.
My native settlement becomes especially beautiful in spring when there are great many tulips in flower-beds and everything is in blossom. (Слайд№4)

Pupil 3. The Podgorenskiy district is not only beautiful. It is rich in mineral resources which give materials for the Podgorenskiy Cement Plant, famous all over the country. (Слайд№5)
In the Podgorenskiy district of the Voronezh Region “EUROCEMENT group” began the building of new highly technological cement plant in June 2008.   New plant will make it possible to create 850 new work sites. The cement works, equipped with the newest energy-saving technologies and ecologically safe equipment, will become one of the most contemporary enterprises of the cement industry of the country.(Слайд №6)

Pupil 4. My native settlement Podgorenskiy was founded in 1958. It is not very large. Those who want to have some entertainment can go to our Central park. Those who prefer dancing may go to a disco. It is rather popular with young people especially teenagers.
I quite forgot to tell you that there are some good cafes in my settlement. I am sure you’ll like it there if you want to have some ice-cream or coffee or just have a talk with your friends.

Pupil 5. There are many places of interest in our district. Chalk rocks can be also met on high banks of the Don in Belogorje. Here is located a cave monastery. Five levels of caves, among which are monks’ cells, cathedral and galleries, go down under the ground.
I also want to tell you about another sightseeing in our district. It is Kostomarovskiy Svyato-Spasskiy female monastery. It is the most ancient monastery in the country. It has been preserved in the region. This monastery is located in the village of Kostomarovo. (Слайд №7)
It is a big underground Spasskiy temple house up to 2000 person. The monastery was under construction in three periods: in XII, XVI-XVII and XVIII-XIX centuries. It had well strengthened entrance, a well disguised back entrance and could sustain long siege. After 1917 the monastery has been closed, but pilgrims notwithstanding continue to go there. The monastery has revived only today. In 1997 first three nuns have logged in caravan. Restoration of a monastery has begun: the small house on some cell with refectory has been erected. They have constructed the brick sisterly building. Spasskiy female monastery is one of three female monasteries of a diocese existing today. Now a lot of pilgrims from all regions of the country come to this holy place to see the Second Jerusalem.

And let's tell to our visitors about the newest sight of our settlement. What is it? It is, certainly, our new school.

Pupil 6. We would like to tell you about our new sightseeing.  It is our new school. Our school is the newest and the best school in the Voronezh Region. The school was built only a few months ago. That's why it is very modern and comfortable. My school is a three-storied building situated in one of the residential districts of our settlement. (Cлайд№2)
Our classrooms are light and spacious. There are three large windows in each classroom. The walls are decorated with pictures and there are nice curtains on the large windows. I think children feel at home here. (Слайд №3)

Pupil 7. There are special classrooms for practically all the subjects - Biology, History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Literature, Art. The classrooms are light and high. These rooms are equipped with corresponding teaching materials, facilities and devices. We have two computer classes and four linguaphone labs.  There are computers, interactive boards and projectors in many classrooms. (Слайд №4)
On the second floor there is a big nice assemble hall. A lot of meetings, concerts, festivals are held there. (Слайд №5).
We are proud of two well-equipped gymnasiums and a modern sports ground. Many pupils are fond of sport and they have a good opportunity to go in for different sports there. (Слайд №6)

Pupil 8. We have a very nice canteen. It is modern and comfortable. It is always busy and noisy, but it is clean. A lot of students and teachers have lunch there. (Cлайд №7)
Our school is famous for its high-quality education and strict discipline. After classes we usually have some out-of-class activities. Our social and cultural life is well-organized. I am very thankful to my school. The teachers in my school are very kind and clever. They give all their knowledge and all their love to the pupils.

Teacher: Dear friends! I hope you see our school; our native place is our Motherland. We all like our native district very much. We want it always to be beautiful and clean. We’ll do everything for Podgorenskiy.
