Today we are not at the lesson. We are at the International Summer
Camp. We have 2 teams. One group of students is from the UK and
another group is from Russia. Today we’ll speak about two capitals
– London and Moscow. Let’s introduce ourselves. I am the head of
the camp.

you would like to learn more about the United Kingdom and Russia,
about London and Moscow. To understand each other we need some
words. So, it’s time to practice vocabulary. You will work in
groups. Choose the colour and change your places. You will have 1
minute to write the missing sounds.

- London is the capital of the UK. It’s a beautiful city.
It’s one of the most famous and interesting cities in Europe. There
are lots of places to visit in London: museums, Art galleries,
theatres. There are also lots of cinemas, stadiums and parks in
London. It’s a mixture of old and new buildings.
- The Houses of Parliament stand beside the river
Thames. The country’s leaders speak at this place. You can see the
Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge.
- Big Ben stands near the Houses of Parliament. It
is really a bell. It has a deep tone. You hear it every hour. It is
a famous clock.
- Westminster Abbey is a symbol of England. It is not far
from the Houses of Parliament. It was founded by St. Peter and
built by King Edward in 1065. Some famous people are buried
there.
- The Tower of London is very old. It has a long
and cruel history. It is not one building. You can see it from the
river Thames. Many years ago British Queens and Kings lived in this
place. Now it is a museum.
- Trafalgar Square is a central square in London.
In Trafalgar Square there is a monument to Admiral Nelson. There is
also the National Gallery.
- Moscow is the capital of Russia. It’s a beautiful city
too. Moscow is different from London. It has a long history. In
Moscow you can see green parks and squares, stadiums and cinemas.
There are a lot of different museums, theatres and Art galleries.
Many tourists come to Moscow every day.
- The Kremlin is the heart of Moscow. There are some old
buildings and museums there. You can see towers and the Kremlin
walls. Our President Dmitri Medvedev works in the Kremlin.
- Spasskaya Tower is one of the towers in the
Kremlin. It is a symbol of Russia. It has a ruby star. It also has
a bell. You can hear it every hour.
- Red Square is near the Kremlin walls. It is the main
square of the city. You can see St. Basil’s Cathedral. It is a
monument to Russian architecture. Tourists like to come here.
- The Tretyakov Gallery is one of the biggest art
galleries. It has about 50000 works of art. They are paintings,
graphics and sculptures.
- Arbat Street is in the center of Moscow. It has a lot of
shops. Many tourists visit it every day. They listen to music and
buy souvenirs.
