Открытое внеклассное мероприятие "Карнавал британских праздников"
Открытое внеклассное мероприятие “Карнавал британских праздников” было проведено в рамках недели иностранного языка в октябре 2004 года для и при непосредственном участии учащихся четвертых классов, которые занимаются по УМК -IV И.Н. Верещагиной, О.В. Афанасьевой для школ с углубленным изучением английского языка, третий год обучения.

“Карнавал британских праздников”
Задачи:
активизировать страноведческий языковой материал по теме “English
Year”;
систематизировать знания учащихся о том, когда и как празднуются
британские праздники;
расширить знания учащихся о праздниках, знакомя их с традициями
проведения других народных праздников, характерных только для
Великобритании;
воспитывать чувства уважения и доброжелательности к стране
изучаемого языка и её народу, своим сверстникам;
развивать и поддерживать устойчивый интерес к английскому языку,
речевую культуру и культуру общения друг с другом.
Оборудование: красочный плакат под названием “Carnival of
British Holidays”, таблички с названиями праздников, тематические
плакаты, поздравительные открытки, медали в форме сердечек, две
коробки с синими и красными бумажками, блины, две сковородки, два
яйца, две деревянные ложки, две верёвки (для соревнований), эмблема
с трилистником, шоколадные яйца, корзинки, плакат с осликом,
грамоты на конкурсы костюмов и стихов, магнитофон и записи
тематических песен.
Ход мероприятия.
Teacher: Good afternoon, dear
children and guests! Today we have an usual day. We are having a
great party “Carnival of British Holidays”. I hope you will have a
wonderful time. Let us learn, play, sing and dance together!
Neznaika: (Knock, knock) May I come in?
Teacher: Yes, you may. But who are you?
Neznaika: My name is Neznaika. I came from Russia
some days ago. Wow, what is it? Why are you wearing so beautifully,
children?

Teacher: Neznaika, we are having a party. Will you
join us? We shall tell you a lot of interesting facts about British
holidays and you will enjoy your time spending here. Take your
place where you want.
Neznaika: With great pleasure. I do not know anything
about holidays in Great Britain. I will listen to you very
carefully! And may be then we shall play with you.
Teacher: There are a lot of public holidays in Great
Britain. They are Christmas Day, New Year’ Day, St. Valentine’s
Day, Mother’s Day, Pancake Day, St. Patrick’s Day, All Fool’s Day,
Easter Day, Father’s Day, Hallowe’en and others.
Teacher: The most popular holiday on the British
Isles is Christmas.

Pupil 1: The 25 of December is Christmas Day. It is a
happy holiday for many people in different countries. Some weeks
before Christmas English people are busy. They send greeting cards
to all their relatives and friends. You can buy Christmas cards or
you can make them. Many children make their cards at school.
Pupil 2: People buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with
toys, coloured balls and little coloured lights. On Christmas Eve
people put their presents under the tree. When children go to bed
they put their stockings near their beds.
Pupil 3: At night Father Christmas comes. He has got a big
bag of presents for children. He puts the presents into the
children’s stockings.
Pupil 1: Every year there is a big Christmas tree in the
centre of London in Trafalgar Square. This is a present from the
people of Norway to the people of Great Britain. They send it to
Londoners every year and Londoners decorate the Christmas tree.
Pupil 2: The shops are very busy at Christmas. People want
to buy presents for their family and friends.
Pupil 3: People open their presents on Christmas morning and
they are happy with what they get.
Pupil 1: For Christmas dinner people eat turkey and the
Christmas pudding. At five o’clock it’s time for tea and Christmas
cake.
Pupil 2: On this day people wish their nearest and dearest a
merry Christmas.

Teacher: New Year’s Day is less popular in
Great Britain than Christmas. But it is also celebrated there.
Would you tell us about New Year’s Day?
Pupil 1: Not all English people celebrate New Year.
Pupil 2: Those who do celebrate it on the 31st of
December.
Pupil 3: A lot of people go to Trafalgar Square to see the
Christmas tree.
Pupil 1: They have a New Year party at home.
Pupil 2: On that day they wish their dearest and nearest a
“Happy New Year”.
Pupil 3: When Big Ben strikes twelve the people drink a
toast to the New Year.
Pupil 1: English and American people often make New Year’s
resolutions.
Pupil 2: Children make New Year’s resolutions, too.
Pupil 3: This year I am going to help Mum about the
house.
Pupil 1: This year I am going to be nice to my little
sister.
Pupil 2: This year I am going to do exercises every
morning.
Pupil 3: This year I am going not to be late for school.
Pupil 1: My Mum isn’t going to eat chocolates, bread or
spaghetti.
Pupil 2: Dad is going to play tennis every day.
Pupil 3: My Mum and Dad usually keep their resolutions but I
don’t.
Pupil 1: And about you?
Pupil 2: Do you make New Year’s resolutions?
Pupil 3: Do you always keep them?
P1, P2, P3: ( зрителям) Happy New Year!
Teacher: Let’s sing the song “Jingle bells”! ( Дети хором
исполняют песню)
Teacher: In February the British have a wonderful
holiday for all lovers - St. Valentine’s Day.
Pupil 1: Nobody knows much about St. Valentine. People call him
the saint of love. On this day children write their names on cards
with hearts on them and give them to their classmates.
Schoolchildren and older people give cards, presents and flowers to
their boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and wives. Some people do
not put their names at the end of their cards because they want
their name to be a secret.

Pupil 1: Let us play a “Valentine game”.(Ведущие раздают девочкам розовые, а мальчикам голубые листочки. Те, у кого оказались листочки с сердечками, становятся Валентином и Валентиной праздника. Им дарят большие “сердца” с вышеуказанными надписями.)
Teacher: Mother’s Day. English people as many
other people in the word love their mothers very much and they
celebrate Mother’s Day in March.
Pupil 1: In March there is also a holiday for English women
– Mother’s Day. People in the family try to make it a day off for
Mother and help her in any way they can. On that day they visit
their mothers and give them some presents. If they cannot do that,
they send their mothers “A Mother’s Day Card”.

Pupil 1 (Daughter): My dear Mummy! Happy Mother’s Day! I wish
you health and happiness. I want to give you this beautiful card
and flowers.

Teacher: Pancake Day. Do you like to eat
pancakes? As for me I do. And so do the English, especially
students. It is a funny holiday. They celebrate it in March.
Pupil 1: In England there is a day for pancakes. It is
usually in March. At home families have pancakes for dinner. At
school the children and the teachers have pancakes for lunch.
People have a lot of fun on that day. This holiday is popular with
all students in England.
Students usually have different races on Pancake Day. For example,
“Egg-and-Spoon Race”, “Three Legged Race” and “Pancake Race”.
Teacher: Let’s play these games now! ( Ведущий
проводит соревнования, популярные в Блинный день в Англии: с
блинами, бег на трех ногах, бег с яйцом в ложке. )

Teacher: St. Patrick’s
Day is also very popular in the UK and other English –
speaking countries. The symbol of this holiday is a shamrock.
Pupil 1: The 17th of March is a national holiday
in Ireland – St. Patrick’s Day. People send greeting cards.
Pupil 2: On that day people wear a shamrock. A shamrock is a
plant with three leaves. It is the national emblem of Ireland.
Pupil 1: On St. Patrick’s Day we decorate our schools,
houses and streets with green shamrocks. And we all wear something
green. We say that everyone is Irish on this day. Kiss me. I am
Irish.
Pupil 2: Kiss me. I am Irish.
Teacher: All Fool’s Day. The British love this
holiday very much. Russian people celebrate it, too.
Pupil 1: In April there is a day for fun. - April Fool’s
Day. It’s on the first of April. English pupils like it very much.
They play jokes and tricks on other people: other children,
parents, friends, relatives and school teachers.
Pupil 2: For example, one is to tell someone that something
is wrong with his dress when in fact all is in order.
Scenes:
1)Pupil 1: ( Один мальчик подкрадывается и прикрепляет
листок с надписью “Push me!” на спину другого мальчика, который ни
о чем не догадывается.) – April Fool! (Все смеются)
2) Pupil 2: Look, Alyosha, your hair is green! ( Алеша
пытается рассмотреть, какого цвета его волосы) – Pupil 1:

3) Pupil 3: I say, Dima, your shirt is dirty! (Дима ищет
пятно на своей рубашке)

4) Pupil 5: Look, Slava! Where are your trousers? ( Слава
испуганно хватается за свои брюки)
– Pupil 6: April Fool! (Все смеются)
Pupil 1: As you see the first of April is a day for fun.
Teacher: Easter. “Happy Easter!” – say
people in Great Britain greeting each other. However, in Russia
people usually say: “Christ is risen !” and the answer is “He is
risen indeed!”
Pupil 1: In April or at the end of March English people
celebrate Easter Day. They celebrate it as the start of spring or a
religious festival. In England it is time to give and to get
presents. On Easter Sunday children get chocolate eggs or rabbits.
You can buy them at any sweet shop in the weeks before Easter.
Pupil 2: The Easter holidays in the UK are at the end of
March and in the first half of April. Pupils go back to school
after Easter. ( Девочки раздают игрушечные яйца и бумажных кроликов

Teacher: Father’s Day. We do not have such a
holiday in Russia. But in Great Britain there is a Father’s Day. I
believe it would be a great holiday in our country and all fathers
would be glad to celebrate it.
Pupil 1: In June the English fathers celebrate Father’s Day.
Children usually spend the day with their parents. On that day they
send cards and give presents to their fathers.
Pupil 2: ( Poem)

Scene:
1) Pupil 1(Daughters): Dear Father! Happy Father’s Day! We
want to give you these nice presents.
Pupil 2 (Daddy): Thanks, dear daughters!
P1, P2: (зрителям) Happy Father’s Day!
Teacher: Hallowe’en. Autumn comes and it’s
time to celebrate Hallowe’en. It’s a funny holiday for children and
grown-ups.
Pupil 1: In late October the days grow shorter and the
nights grow longer. It is colder and darker and cold winds blow.
The leaves fall down from the trees. The year is ending and
everything is dying.
Pupil 2: People stay at home in the evenings and at
weekends. It is the time of Hallowe’en. Hallowe’en is a great
holiday. Hallowe’en is the end of autumn and the start of
winter.
Pupil 3: In the past this festival was a time of fear.
People believed in ghosts and witches and they stayed at home.

Pupil 1: At Hallowe’en the ghosts of the dead and all the
witches of the world rode in the sky on their broomsticks.
Pupil 2: Many countries celebrate Hallowe’en, but in
different ways. People invite their relatives and friends to
Hallowe’en parties and send invitation cards. Today this festival
is a time for fun, for Hallowe’en parties.
Pupil 3: Now ghosts and witches are people dressed in old
and funny clothes. On the 31st of October at Hallowe’en
parties they eat tasty autumn food - pumpkin pies and cakes.
Pupil 1: The sky is blue, the sky is green,
Have you got a penny for Hallowe’en?
Hallowe’en, Hallowe’en.
Pupil 2: Ghosts and witches can be seen.
Trick or Treat, Trick or Treat!
Give us something good to eat.
Pupil 3: The sky is grey,
But we are gay:
We go out and go in
To celebrate Hallowe’en.
Teacher: Birthday. All сhildren have their
own birthdays and celebrate them in different ways. But today we
have a boy who has a birthday. Please guess who has a birthday
today.
Pupils: Perhaps Neznaika has his birthday.
Teacher: Yes, you are right. Let’s sing the song for
our friend “Happy Birthday to you!”
Teacher: At Birthday parties children play different
games. One of them is “Pin the tail on the donkey!” Shall we play
it? ( Дети с завязанными глазами прикрепляют хвостик ослику)
Neznaika: It was pleasure to listen to you,
boys and girls! I see you know much about British holidays. But I

3) Children usually eat chocolate eggs and Cross Buns on this day.

4) Children dress as witches and ghosts and go from house to house
and say: “Trick or Treat?” (Hallowe’en )

dance together.
Teacher: And now we are having our Fancy
Dress and Poem Contests. (Конкурс
карнавальных костюмов - дети демонстрируют свои костюмы под веселую
детскую песню на английском языке. Конкурс стихов – учащиеся
рассказывают стихи, посвященные праздникам.
Жюри подводит итоги и награждает победителей.)
