Актуальность темы обусловлена тем, что для проверки знаний по английскому языку учителя продолжают применять диктант, который по мнению учащихся и родителей является трудным и малоэффективным способом, вызывая только стресс и неудовлетворительную отметку.

Цель: передать педагогический опыт для профессионального совершенствования учителей и повышения качества образования.

Задачи: познакомить с эффективными приемами обучения написанию английских слов и нестандартными диктантами.

Возможно применение представленных приемов и методов другими педагогами в аналогичных или схожих условиях.

Диктант является эффективным инструментом обучения и контроля знаний учащихся.

Основные цели использования диктантов на уроках английского языка:

• Совершенствование орфографических навыков
• Развитие аудитивного восприятия
• Тренировка концентрации внимания
• Совершенствования навыков письма

Чтобы диктант не воспринимался учащимися как скучное или тревожное занятие, а урок стал интересным и запоминающимся, можно предложить следующие приемы нестандартных диктантов, которые помогут снять стресс и пройдут в удовольствие.

Dictations to enjoy

1. Spaghetti dictation

Randomly dictate the letters of target vocabulary for students to write them down. Students unscramble the word and write it, paying attention to the correct spelling. They may shout the word they once unscrambled.

Example:

s,y,k – sky
l,o,c,d,u – cloud

2. Definition dictation

Dictate the definitions of the target vocabulary for students to guess the words and write them down, paying attention to the correct spelling.

For example: instead of “Write donkey,” you give the clue “A grey farm animal with long ears” and students write “donkey”.

3. Running dictation

Print a short text including the target vocabulary and post it on the board or the walls. Divide the students into teams or pairs where one is the writer and the other one is the runner. The runner runs to the posted text, reads a bit of it and memorizes it. Then, the runner returns to the writer and dictates what they read. The writer writes down the words they hear. The runner runs back and forth until they complete the passage.

4. Picture dictation

Use visuals for students to write down the word.

5. Rebus dictation (Приложение 1)

Print a short text where images stand for target vocabulary. Students write down the hidden words.

6. Crossword dictation

Dictate the words in students’ native language or give their definitions in English. Students write down the words, focusing on spelling, but trying to fit the crossword puzzle grids.

Таким образом, использование нестандартных диктантов может вызвать активность учащихся и стать интересной формой работы.

Чтобы у учащихся не уходило много времени на заучивание слов, и чтобы они смогли успешно написать диктант, важно предложить задания для прописывания нужной лексики, тренируя моторную память. Чем чаще они пропишут эти слова в различных интересных упражнениях, тем лучше они их запомнят, а главное без стресса.

Creative ways to practise spelling words for an upcoming dictation

1. Wordsnake

Connect the words in a long snake. Then have students to find the words hidden in the wordsnake and write them in a line to practise spelling.

Example:

Circle 10 numbers and write them in a line.

2. Classification activity involves sorting words into groups. (Приложение 2, Приложение 3)

3. Definition Bingo

Prepare a list of target vocabulary on the board. Give each student a bingo card (a piece of paper/sticky note). Students write one word from the common list into each box on the bingo card. Randomly call out the definition of the word or its Russian equivalent for weaker students. Students identify the word on the bingo card and cross it out. Students shout out “Bingo” once they have three words in a row. You may play several rounds with a single bingo card. For example, in game 1 they cross out. In game 2 they circle. In game 3 they colour. The game doesn’t need much preparation.

4. Labeling is a great activity where students write the words under the pictures.

5. Spelling dictation

Show a picture with the word to a student. The student then spells the word for others to write it down. When finished, show the correct spelling to everyone to check. Continue with other students.

6. The sentence maker (Приложение 4)

Students write as many sentences as they can from the words given in the box.

7. Hangman

Think of a word from the target vocabulary, drawing dashes for each letter on the board. While students guess letters one by one to fill in the blanks, build a gallows for each incorrect guess until the word is guessed or the hangman is complete, resulting in a win or loss. The guesser wins by guessing the entire word before the hangman is fully drawn. The guesser loses if the hangman is drawn before the word is guessed.
