Speakers come out on the stage

Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, we’re very glad to welcome you at our Fashion Show dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.

Speaker 2: Welcome to mysterious world of wonderful fairy-tale. Have a good time and enjoy yourselves!

Speaker 3: “If there’s no meaning in it that saves a world of trouble, you know, as we needn’t try to find any”.

L. Carroll comes out.

L.C.: Good morning. What’s going on here?

Speaker 1: Who are you, sir?

Speaker 2: Hush, Nasty, don’t you know? That’s the very Lewis Carroll, a famous English writer.

Speaker 3: Well, my dears don’t argue! I’m Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and my pen name is Lewis Carroll, the author of the children’s classics “Alice Adventures in wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass”.

Speaker 1: Great! Mr. Carroll, Can you tell us about yourself?

L.C.: Sure! I was born on the 27th of January 1832 in Daresbury in England. I was the eldest in a family of 11 children. My father was a clergyman. I was good at Math and won many academic prizes at Richmond Grammar school and then at Oxford. I worked as a mathematician at Christ College. I was also a photographer and wrote essays and poetry.

Speaker 2: Mr. Carroll, how did you write your novels?

L.C.: (video film is on the screen) Приложение 2. I loved to entertain children. It was Alice, the daughter of Henry George Liddell who inspired me to write these novels. My book was published in 1865 and in 1871 I wrote the sequel “Through the Looking Glass”.

Speaker 3: Mr. Carroll, it was an interesting story, thank you very much. Your book is still one of the most popular in the world. This year we celebrate its anniversary and invite you to our Fashion Show!

Speaker1: Dear friends, we offer the most different lines, colours and designs. You’ll be able to find your individual image with the help of our best designers of Grades 5 A and 5 B.

Speaker 2: We hope you’ll enjoy our rhythmical music, gay-coloured whirling of various styles of clothing, footwear, hats and hairstyles.

Speaker 3: Greet our models and give them a hand!

(Music sounds ‘Dolce and Cabana Fashion Show’) Приложение 3.

1.

Speaker 4: Who are you, pretty girl?

Alice I..I hardly know, sir, just at present-at least I know who I was when I got up this morning but I think I changed several times.

Speaker 4: Meet shoulder-length blonde-haired and blue-eyed, gentle, courteous to all and curios Alice!

Alice: Curiouser and curiouser!

Speaker 4: Her beige knee-length dress with big creamy flowers makes her look pretty and matches her headband that isn’t really a headband but a hand band. This beige hand band instead of a watch is in fashion this season.

Speaker 4: Why are you wearing trainers of different height?

Alice: Don’t you know that I can grow high or get low?

Speaker 4: How clever you are!

Alice stands aside.

2.

Speaker 1: I’ve often seen a cat without a grin, but a grin without a cat! It’s the most curious thing I ever say in my life. Meet Cheshire Cat, famous for his mischievous grin.

Немирович Л.А. 240-079-223

(The cat’s flaunting) She looks good-natured wearing black and white knee-length dress that matches her black- eared hat. Dear cat, where’s your tail?

Cat: How boring you are! It’s very official and conservative. It must be cute to wear a plait instead of a tail.

Speaker 1: It’s practical as it’s made from 3 scarves that help her to protect herself from windy, sunny or rainy weather. (Cat joins Alice).

Speaker 2: Would you tell me which way I ought to go from here?

Cat: In that direction lives Hatter and in that direction lives Match Hare. Visit either you like: they are both mad.

3.

Speaker 3: Mad Hatter! Mr. Hatter, what do you always have?

Hatter: A mad tea party. I’m mad, you’re mad, we’re all mad!

Speaker 3: Do you think he looks mad? No, he looks stylish and cool in his weird sweatshirt and grey trousers. Look at his cap, it’s always 10 shillings and 6 pence. He’s got a watch to take it out of his pocket shaking it every now and then and holding it to the ear. What’s the time, Mr. Hatter?

Hatter: It’s always 6 o’clock.

4.

Speaker 4: Meet March Hare! He looks like a cowboy and a bit scruffy wearing blue jeans, a grey shirt and white boots. His blue jeans hat with a broad brim turned up at the sides matches his outfit. Mr. Hare, we are having a birthday today. Why do you look so casual?

March Hare: This is an unbirthday party.

Speaker 4: But I don’t think…

March Hare: Ah, that’s just it. If you don’t think you shouldn’t talk.

5.

(Rabbit runs out and rushes)

Rabbit: Oh the Duchess! Won’t she be furious if I kept her waiting?

Speaker 1: Look at the Rabbit; she’s splendidly dressed with a pair of white gloves in one hand and a large fan in the other.

Rabbit: I’m late. No time to say hello, no time to say goodbye! I’m late! (Rabbit drops the gloves and her fan).

Alice picks it up: How queer everything is today!

6.

Speaker 2: Meet our next model - The Duchess. She looks elegant dressed in a long black party dress and a white coat with high collar that protects her from fire irons, a shower of saucepans, plates and dishes when they hit her in the kitchen. Miss Duchess, please mind what you’re doing.

Duchess: If everybody minded their own business, the world would round a deal further than it does.

Speaker 2: How fond she is of finding morals in things!

7.

Speaker 3: Greet pretty Caterpillar! She’s quite trendy in her blue knee-length dress that matches big glasses and a summer hat with a blue ribbon at the side.

Caterpillar: I’m no pillar I’m a cat. I’m a caterpillar.

How doth the little crocodile improve his shining tail?

And pour the waters of the Nile, on every golden scale……

8.

(White Queen appears)

Speaker 4: Am I addressing the White Queen?

White Queen: Yes, if you call it a dressing. It is my notion of the thing.

Speaker 4: She’s dreadfully untidy. Every single thing is crooked, she is allover pins. There’s a white shawl around her wrist.

9.

Speaker 1: Here are Tweedledee and Tweedledum! They look alike but contrary wise they are different. They‘ve got black hair pulled up in a high pigtail on opposite sides of the head with a pink crunchy.

Their makeup consists of blue eye shadow and black eyeliner to make their eyes appeal bigger and make them fantastic!

Tweedledum:

Tweedledum and Tweedledee
Agreed to have a battle;
For Tweedledum said Tweedledee
Had spoiled his nice new rattle.

Tweedledee:

Just then flew down a monstrous crow,
As black as a tar-barrel;
Which frightened both the heroes so,
They quite forgot their quarrel.

10.

Speaker 1: Look at this pretty lady-she’s Alice’s sister. Her elegant purple skirt ornamented with mushrooms matches her blouse, stockings and a tiny bag where she can always put a book on English history. Miss, what books are you keen on?

Sister: No doubt, on William the Conqueror.

11.

Speaker 4: Meet the most mysterious and fictional character Jabberwocky (Бармаглот). She’s wearing low-healed black boots, a pair of black gloves and ferocious sharp collar. She looks as if she warns the hero to behave.

Jabberwocky: The jaws that bite and the claws that catch.

12.

Speaker 2: Ladies and Gentlemen, be quiet and polite! Meet her majesty The Queen of Hearts! Her red dress is ornamented with hearts. Her head is crowned with a red heart too, but it doesn’t make her heart kind, either. (Queen points at any child)

Queen of Hearts: What’s your name, child?

Speaker 2: Kristina, your Majesty.

Queen: Who are these? (Points to the audience)

Speaker 2: How should I know, your Majesty? It’s no business of mine.

Queen: Off with her head! Off with their heads!!(Repeats several times and joins the other participants)

All the actors pass on the podium and come up to the speakers.

Speaker 3 (with an open book in her hands and reads): ‘Begin at the beginning’, the king said very gravely, and ‘go on till you come to the end, then stop!’ Dear friends, our show comes to an end, too like Alice’s adventures in Wonderland.

Speaker 1: Life is what is it but a dream? We hope your dream has come true today.

Speaker 2: Don’t be afraid of dreaming and your dreams will come true one day!

All participants sing the song “Welcome to Mystery”. Приложение 4.

Welcome to Mystery

Imagine a place you can always escape to
An island off the coast of nowhere
A new destination of your own creation
Just waiting till you choose to go there

Blue tree tops and velvet skies
Blue ready to blow your mind
Oooo

This is a place where your mind can escape
All the problems today and go far, far away
This is a time with no history
Welcome to mystery

Imagine a city where everything's pretty
And you sir, you rule the kingdom
You call the shots you can do what you want to
Oh just imagine the freedom

Blue tree tops and velvet skies
Blue ready to blow your mind
Oooo

This is a place where your mind can escape
All the problems today and go far, far away
This is a time with no history
Welcome to mystery

Blue tree tops and velvet skies
Blue ready to blow your mind
Oooo

Imagine a room where the flowers they bloom
Through the cracks in the floor and the ceiling
Just you and the missus and roses scented kisses
My, what a wonderful feeling

Oooo
This is a place where your mind can escape
All the problems today and go far, far away
This is a time with no history
Welcome to mystery!

This is a place where your mind can escape
All the problems today and go far; far away
This is a time with no history
Feel no misery
Come and visit me
Welcome to mystery!
