Задачи урока:
- Развитие коммуникативных способностей в условиях заданной речевой ситуации.
- Расширение знаний учащихся о культуре, традициях, современными реалиями страны изучаемого языка.
- Воспитание у обучаемых интереса к изучению английского языка.

Let's have an excursion around London and see the sights. Our captains will be the guides.(slides 4,5,6,7,8,9)
1. The Tower of London.

There are a lot of great people in Great Britain. We'll see how you'll manage to guess them (slide 10):
W. Shakespeare. An English writer of plays. His most famous plays are "Romeo and Juliet", "Hamlet", "Othello". He wrote poetry, especially the sonnets.
The Beatles. A British popular music group who made their first record in 1962 and became the most famous and successful group ever.
D. Defoe. A famous English writer of the 18th century. For the novel "The life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" he was named "the father of English prose".
W. Turner. He was a master of water colour. He exhibited the first picture at the age of 16. Most of his pictures were landscapes and sea pictures.
Charles Darwin. Being a little boy he collected all kinds of things: bird's eggs, insects. In the future he became a scientist. He opened the theory of evolution.
Ronald Tolkien. He spoke 6 ancient languages and made up his own language. He studied at Oxford University. He became popular due to his books "The Hobbit", "The Lord of Rings".
Margaret Thatcher. A well-known British politician. She was the first woman Prime Minister (1979-1990) of Britain.
Ch. Chaplin. A famous English film actor and producer
III. No one can deny that each country has each own traditions and holidays. Now we'll speak about holidays in Great Britain. Your task is to guess what holiday it is, when it is celebrated and say a few words about it(slide 11).

Your task is to match the beginning of the proverb with the ending. Give the Russian equivalent for the English one(slides 12,13).

- This subject is very important. We need it everywhere. We learn to count, do algebraic equations and complicated sums (Maths).
- It's bad if you don't know your native language. It's the language of Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky. (Russian).
- If you want to be good at it, you should read a lot of books by Russian and foreign writers. This subject will help you to develop your imagination, enrich your inner world. (Literature).
- It can be very useful in your future life. If you know it well you'll be able to communicate with people from other countries, read books in the original, get a good job. (English).
- You can get to know a lot about the past of our country and other countries as well. It's very interesting to learn about great events, take part in their discussion. (History).
- It's very necessary nowadays. We can't imagine our life without computers. This subject enables us to operate them. (IT).
- We do experiments, study different chemical elements. (Chemistry).
- It makes us strong and healthy. It teaches us to be confident, well-organized and disciplined. (Sport).
- We can travel around the world meeting different countries, getting acquainted with customs, traditions of people. (Geography).
