Today we have an unusual lesson, we are going to speak about fashions and clothes, tissues and we’ll discuss the article from “Speak out” magazine “A Dress for Cinderella”
2. Фонетическая зарядка.
At the very beginning of our lesson let’s listen to the tape! Draw in your imagination the hero of this song! Be ready to answer my questions!
Looking Good
I got dressed in a hurry (в спешке).
I forgot to comb my hair (забыл причесать).
People who see me
Think that I don’t care.
I wear a wrinkled shirt and dirty clothes.
I’ve got holes in my shoes (дырки);
You can see my toes (пальцы).
No, no, no, that’s no way to be.
If you’re not looking good, you’re not feeling free!Looking good, looking good, looking good,
You know everybody should be
Looking good, looking good, looking good.I climbed on the bus; I felt so shy (застенчивый).
I felt so sloppy, I wanted to hide (неряшливый; спрятаться).
No one sat near me.
My head hung to the ground.
I had on one blue sock,
And the other was brown.
No, no, no, that’s no way to be.
If you’re not looking good, you’re not feeling free!Wash your clothes and your body (стирай).
Take a little time.
Dress sharp in the morning.
You feel so fine!
Oh, oh, oh, that’s the way to be.
When you’re looking good, you’re feeling free!
(УМК В.П.Кузовлева 6 класс Unit 1 стр.225)

Teacher: I wish everybody to look good and feel free!
3. Речевая зарядка.
And now, my dear children, look at the screen, read the statements written on it and express your opinion, agree or disagree with it. Give your reasons.
Выражения

Teacher: Very interesting quotations. I want you to remember them. Unfor tunately, some of them sound rather sadly.
4. Watching presentation
Teacher: And now, dear children, the group of the girls have prepared the presentation about modern clothes and some facts from the history of fashion.
Look at the screen and listen to your classmates.
P1: Dear friends. Today you are in theatre of fashion.
P2: We are glad to see you. We want to show you our spring-summer new collection.
P1: You always put yourself a question: What shall I put on to be attractive? Today we are going to solve your problem.
P3: But let’s speak a little about history. Nobody knows exactly who was the first to invent clothes. Many- many years ago people took off the skin from the animals. At first they only ate their meat, but then they began to use the skin as clothes.
P4: You forget to say that a man began to cultivate this skin to make it softer.
P1: Who knows when the first needle was invented?
P5: They say that 15000 years ago our ancestors invented the needle and began to sew the skins together. This was the first image of our clothes.
P2: Yes, I read that some 10000 years ago the people of Egypt made the first tissues. It was cotton, wool and flax. Later in China they invented the new material and called it silk. They didn’t tell to anybody about their secret of making silk. During 4500 years nobody knew how to make it.
P3: All this is very interesting. What other kinds of tissues do you know?
P6: Cotton print. It’s very convenient for summer dresses.
P7: Sateen. It’s so beautiful.
P8: Velvet. People use it for evening dresses and costumes.
P9: Velours is also used for evening dresses. It’s rather expensive.
P10: Nylon. My mother said that when she was young nylon dresses were very popular and shirts for men were also made of nylon.
P11: Leather. Now we wear leather trousers, leather jackets, leather shirts etc.
P12: Jeans. It’s very popular now among young people.
P1: Okay. You know a lot of kids of tissues. But now let’s speak about the modern clothes of coming spring-summer season.
P2: The modern colours are yellow and brown with some silver threads. And of course white. It’s very good for hot weather and it looks very beautiful. People like it very much.
P3: Style is romantic. I know many of you like sport style, but it’s only for teens. If you want to look really attractive be romantic and riddlely.
P1: And some more advice: don’t use a lot of make up during day time. I think you don’t want to look vulgar. Some light shades, little mascara to make your lashes long. Remember: you are beautiful because you are young.
P4: Listen!.. It’s not necessary to have a lot of clothes. You should be able to combine your things. That’s why when buying something think how this thing will be combined with others.
P1: Let’s begin with shoes. High heeled shoes are always on the pick. The heels are straight and thin. Classic “boats”. It’s good for evening or for some official meeting. Colour is black.
P2: For everyday wear it’s convenient to wear low heeled shoes. But if you are of small size we recommend you to wear high heeled shoes for every day. They make you taller.
P3: Dresses are straight and simple. They should underline your figure. It’s very effective to have embroidery along the hem of your dress or on the breast. If your dress is white make a black embroidery. You’ll look very nice.
P4: Now about the length. You may wear very short dress but it’s better to make it just to the middle of your knee.
P5: If you go to some evening party it’s good to put on a long dress.
P7: And what about boys? You speak only about girls.
P1: Oh, sorry. Boys always should be looking at. And very neat, remember.
P2: We offer you light shirts of all colours. The collar of the shirt is small. You may not close the upper button. It looks very effective.
P3: If you like this you are welcome. Ties are long and wide. They may be with some contrast strips or even with small flowers. And one more modern detail: pocket, watch. With it you will look like a gentleman.
P8: And what about shoes for boys?
P4: Oh, yes. The shoes are classic if you like. But the nose is little cut. Some boys don’t like to wear shoes with laces. But we advice you to buy shoes with laces. They look very nice.
Teacher: I thank everybody for this interesting show.
5. Checking homework.
Teacher: The next item of our lesson is checking your homework.
Your homework for today was to read, translate and retell the article “A Dress for Cinderella” from “Speak Out” magazine.
You needn’t read and translate, but first let’s tell in general the story “A Dress for Cinderella”.
A Dress for Cinderella.
58 years ago, in 1952, a young Italian girl was dreaming about marrying a young man she was in love with, but she knew they would have to wait for a long time because they had no money.
In 1952, a young actress Audrey Hepburn was planning her wedding to London playboy called James Hanson… She had already played the leading part in a Hollywood musical and was making her film debut in Roman Holiday. While filming in Rome the actress ordered her wedding dress in a famous Fontana house. It was a perfect wedding dress - made of white lace, with a flowing train.
At last it was practically ready and Audrey had to go to the designers for the final fitting… but two weeks before the wedding Audrey called it off.
She could just keep the dress or sell it, but instead she phoned Fontana and said: «I want my dress to be worn by another girl, someone who couldn’t ever afford a dress like mine, the most beautiful poor Italian girl you can find.»
Now the three Fontana sisters who owned the house had to find a girl , poor, young, beautiful and pencil-slim like Audrey. They thought of a poor new town of Latina, not far away from Rome. The mayor of Latina gave them the name of Amabile Altobello. Amabile met all the requirements, and she got the dress. The people of Latina were so excited that the town gave Amabile kitchen furniture and organized a honeymoon in Paris. «It was a dream come true, » - she said.
The story was soon forgotten. But this year the Fontana fashion house was planning an exhibition of dresses made for film stars and other celebrities, so the last of the Fontana sisters decided to find out what had happened to Hepburn’s dress and the girl who had got it.
Amabile Altobello still lives in the same town of Latina. She has three children and five grandchildren. She and her husband haven’t become rich, but they have had a happy marriage, Amabile says that the dress brought her luck, so she kept it, carefully wrapped in tissue paper, all these years.
The wedding dress will be displayed during the town of Latina’s 70th anniversary celebrations in December. The mayor promises a huge party and in memory of Audrey Hepburn. He also promises to give a new wedding dress to the first girl to get married in the town after the anniversary.
- retelling the text
Один из учеников пересказывает текст.
Teacher: Thank you very much.
- discussing the text
Teacher: And now, my pupils, collect your thoughts and let’s discuss this story.
Class: Pupils discussed the following questions:
- Who was Audrey Hepburn?
- Did she plan her wedding to a London playboy called James Hanson in 1952?
- Where did she order her wedding dress?
- Did James and Audrey marry?
- Did Audrey sell her dress?
- Did she keep it as a memory?
- What did she do with it?
- Did they find a poor, young and beautiful girl?
- What was her name?
- Where was she from?
- What did the people of Latina organize and give to Amabile?
- Was it a dream come true?
- What did Fontana fashion house plan in 2002?
- What had happened to Hepburn’s dress and the girl who had god it?
- Have they had a happy marriage?
- Did Audrey’s dress bring her luck?
- Where is it now?
- Is it a love-story?
- Does it sound like a fairy-tale?
Teacher: Any more questions?
Teacher: Can you add anything?
- Nobody can.
Then I want to add some words. Audrey Hepburn was married twice in 1945 and in 1969, but neither of her wedding dresses can be compared to the one she gave to an unknown girl.
- forming written skills
Teacher: Ok! Let’s train our written skills. I want you to write down five types of questions to this text. I mean subject, special, alternative, disjunctive and general questions. Now please ready, steady, go.
Class: (один ученик выполняет это задание у доски).
Teacher: Let’s check your questions.
Teacher: This task is not easy.
6. Having fun.
Teacher: The next task will be the following:
Make as many words as you can out of the word Cinderella.
