– Good morning, dear friends! Today we'll go to London for the excursion. We'll visit such places as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Please, take the maps and save them during all our excursion. You should mark only the places which will be visited by you.

– But first of all let's repeat some words which will be useful hi our excursion.

[ei] – place, famous, stadium

Let's translate these words and then answer some questions.

– And now close your eyes and imagine that you are flying to London. OK and now open your eyes. Welcome, friends, we are in London! And the first place is Buckingham Palace. It is the place where the Queen lives. The present queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is Elizabeth II. It's the London home of British Royal family. Outside the Buckingham Palace we can see a colorful ceremony of the Changing of the Guard.

– And now let's go to Westminster Abbey. Let's read some information about it. Take your sheets of paper, please.

Tourists in London always want to visit Westminster Abbey. It is a symbol of England. The legend says that Westminster Abbey was founded by St. Peter himself. We know Westminster Abbey was built by King Edward in 1065. The coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in Westminster Abbey. Some famous English people are also buried [berid] here. The funeral service for Diana, Princess of Wales took place in Westminster Abbey in September 1997.

– OK and near it we can see the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. What do you know about it? (One pupil tells about this sightseeing.)

– And of course we can't miss the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Earlier the Kings and Queens lived there. But now the Royal Family prefers to live in Buckingham Palace. Tower Bridge consists of two towers - Bloody and White.

– And now let's go to St. Paul's Cathedral.

– Now we are near St. Paul's Cathedral. It was built from 1675 till 1710 by Sir C. Wren. It is a very great building.

– Our excursion is over and let's revise the material we have learnt. First of all you should match the names of the sightseeings with their pictures.

– It is famous for its fountain and Admiral Nelson's Column.
