Задачи:

– формирование познавательного интереса к стране изучаемого языка;
– разумное применение ИКТ для решения поставленных задач.

Оснащение: Видеофильм, презентации детей, слайд-шоу, наглядные материалы, разноуровневые тексты для чтения, заготовленные листы с заданиями

Ход урока

I. Introduction.

Teacher: Hello! Today we’re going to travel around the US.

The USA offers a great variety of scenery: picturesque valleys, wide plains and grasslands, rocky mountains and great forests, dry deserts and mighty rivers, beautiful lakes and sandy beaches.

Though the US is quite a young country it’s full of history, here modern rubs shoulders with the old, the present remembers the past, the great and the small live side by side in peace, tolerance, respect and friendship.

II. Watching a slide-show “Top 10 Most Beautiful Cities in the USA”

– Pre-watching task

Teacher: We’d like to show you some American cities. Could you guess what they are?

Pupils: In my opinion (I guess, I think, In my view…) you’ll show us (we’ll watch, we’ll see) …. (the names of the cities) because …… (Pupils give their reasons)

– The 1-st watching

Teacher (informs how many cities were guessed): You’ve guessed …… cities.

– Phonetic drill (the names of the cities are written on the blackboard). Pupils repeat them after the teacher.

III. Checking homework

Teacher: The USA is large and its parts are quite different from each other. There are so many places to visit and sights to see.

You were asked to make a programme for a one-week visit to the USA (in groups). We’re sure you’ve chosen the most exciting things to enjoy. Let’s listen to the representatives of 2 groups and find out which programme is the most attractive.

– Showing presentations and commenting on them.

– Asking questions for detailed information.

– Choosing the best programme.

Pupils: It seems to me (I’m quite sure) the 1-st (2-nd) presentation is more interesting (attractive, exciting) because (as) ……

IV. Mini-dialogues

Teacher: When you travel you should know how to do it.

Pupils get the cards with 3 possible questions. They complete the dialogue and act it.
